I went to a tarot event in Gumi and felt like I really needed to treat my student's teacher to a proper Gumi restaurant, so I asked a local friend and ended up at a place famous for hanwoo (Korean beef) stew: Hanjaechon Gumi Main Branch.

The clean grassy yard outside and the upscale look of this Gumi hanwoo Korean restaurant caught my eye right away.

The tables inside weren't packed tightly together either — there was plenty of space between them, and everything looked clean and tidy. I also liked their company motto, something like 'put your soul into quality.'

At Hanjaechon Gumi Main Branch, you can only start eating the hanwoo beef rib stew once the hourglass placed on your table runs out — after 5 minutes. Eating this stew while badly hungover from the night before, it turned out to be the ultimate hangover cure.

This stew is genuinely amazing. I think it's the best beef stew I've ever had. I'd had way too much to drink the night before, and there's honestly no better dish for a hangover than this. Come here after drinking, and come here even if you didn't drink — just come for the stew!

### How good are the mung bean pancake, boiled hanwoo and beef tartare?

We also tried the ₩6,000 mung bean pancake, the ₩25,000 tasting-size hanwoo boiled beef, and the ₩15,000 tasting-size hanwoo beef tartare. Both the pancake and the boiled beef were genuinely delicious, with the water parsley aroma coming through nicely for a healthy, tasty flavor. The tartare wasn't your ordinary tartare either — the seasoning was special, giving it an unusual, interesting flavor.

As we were leaving after eating so well, I noticed a whole stack of receipts for chilled hanwoo beef — not a single frozen cut among them. It was clearly a trustworthy restaurant, and the food matched that reputation — my tarot student even bought 2.5 servings of the stew to take home.

## Final verdict on Hanjaechon Gumi Main Branch

This was such a satisfying restaurant that I'm sure I'll come back without hesitation the next time I'm in Gumi. I'd never had a hanwoo beef stew this good anywhere before. If you live in Gumi or ever have a reason to visit, I strongly recommend making the trip out to Indong just to eat here.
