I went in expecting a typical neighborhood snack restaurant, but true to being inside a shopping mall, the place was clean and well put together overall.

What I ordered was the Hyeonseonine Set, which lets you sample the signature dishes all at once. The Hyeonseonine Set (tteokbokki + fried snacks + sundae + mini gimbap) costs ₩23,000.

The tteokbokki comes in mild, medium, or spicy, and the sundae can be ordered as sundae only, half sundae half organ meat, or mostly organ meat, so you can order it to your taste. I went with spicy, half sundae half organ meat.

This time I went with takeout rather than eating in. With the tteokbokki, fried snacks, mini gimbap, and sundae all packed together, just laying everything out at home made for a pretty generous spread.

The containers were also sealed neatly, so there was no annoying broth leakage during the trip home.

The moment I opened the lid, a spicy, sweet tteokbokki aroma hit me. I went with the spicy version, and rather than being just plainly hot from the start, it was more of a sharp seasoning style with sweetness and savory depth mixed in.

Personally, I felt the seasoning came through even more clearly once it cooled slightly compared to when it was piping hot. It reminded me of the nostalgic broth tteokbokki I used to eat in front of school as a kid, which made me unexpectedly happy. If you like spicy food, I'd also recommend dipping the fried snacks or gimbap into the tteokbokki broth.

The assorted fried snacks included vegetable fritters, fried squid, fried sweet potato, kimmari (fried seaweed rolls stuffed with glass noodles), and dumplings. The batter stayed crispy, so they were good on their own and also went well dipped into the spicy tteokbokki broth.

Of everything, the vegetable fritter was my favorite. The subtle sweetness from the vegetables and the crispy batter went together with the spicy tteokbokki better than I expected.

The mini gimbap had more heft than I expected — quite substantial for something billed as a bite-sized menu item. Unlike typical mini gimbap that's just pickled radish and carrot, this one was packed with egg, imitation crab, spinach, ham, and more.

There was a hint of sesame oil aroma on the outside too, which made it a good thing to alternate with between bites of the spicy tteokbokki. If you're going with the spicy tteokbokki, I'd recommend ordering the gimbap alongside it.

## Chewy sundae and a generous pile of offal

The sundae had a good chewy texture without any off putting smell. I went with half sundae half organ meat, and it came with lungs and liver mixed in too, so there was plenty of variety to try.

Dipping it lightly into the tteokbokki sauce was especially good — the spicy seasoning and the mild flavor of the sundae worked together, and I kept reaching for more. Laying out tteokbokki, fried snacks, gimbap, and sundae all together reminded me that snack restaurant food really is best enjoyed as a mix of several dishes.

What I liked most was being able to enjoy Hyeonseonine's long-running, signature spicy snack menu in the clean, comfortable setting of IFC Mall. Especially if you want to try tteokbokki + fried snacks + sundae + mini gimbap all at once, the set menu makes it easy.

I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for somewhere to eat in Yeouido ahead of the fireworks festival like today, or anyone shopping at IFC Mall who wants a quick, good snack restaurant meal in Yeouido.
