Grilled in a 400-degree oven, the mackerel came out golden and crisp on the outside, moist inside — a great match for the rice. It tasted lighter and nuttier than typical grilled fish, without any overpowering fishy edge. Apparently Geumdeungeo seasons the fish with nuruk salt (fermented rice-yeast salt), and the saltiness wasn't overwhelming, so everything felt balanced when eaten with the rice. Getting the pot rice alongside made it a complete meal — I even poured hot water in for sungnyung (scorched rice tea). Several side dishes came with the meal too, so it really felt like enjoying a full table spread. The handmade banchan made with seasonal ingredients were great because you could take as much as you wanted from the self-bar. The extra kkomak muchim we ordered was also a standout. The shelled cockles were well coated in the seasoning and went nicely with rice — a spicy-tangy flavor that was a nice contrast to the grilled fish, good to mix in between bites. ### The coffee corner and puffed-rice snacks after the meal After the meal, there was a coffee and drinks corner, so I didn't have to look for a separate café afterward — very convenient.
