## In short

Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu Main Branch is a bossam and kalguksu restaurant on a side street between Hapjeong and Mangwon stations in Mapo, Seoul. The writer ordered the new mulchong-jogae kalguksu (clam noodle soup) with a medium bossam (boiled pork, 42,000 won) and drank soju alongside the spicy broth buried under clams. At Pyeongidambaek, the thickly cut, chewy pork and the clean clam broth worked equally well as a full meal and as drinking food.

A Hapjeong bossam favorite, Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu Main Branch, paired with the new clam kalguksu.

Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu is already famous as a Hapjeong bossam (boiled pork wraps) spot with wonderfully tender pork, and now they've rolled out a new clam kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), so I had to go back and try it. Between the unusual noodle soup and the bossam and side dishes perfect for a drink, this place works on every front. Let me show you the clam kalguksu and bossam I had this time!

## Where is Pyeongidambaek? A side street between Hapjeong and Mangwon stations

Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu Main Branch sits along the way from Hapjeong Station toward Mangwon Station, right at the mouth of a relatively quiet alley in Mangwon-dong. Located between Hapjeong and Mangwon stations, this Mapo Korean restaurant is generous with its kalguksu portions too! It has that atmosphere regulars all know — the look of a place that's been loved for a long time, and you can tell just by looking at it!

Even from outside you can tell the new menu discount is a steal — only ₩6,000 on weekdays! Impossible to pass up!

There are 4-person tables good for groups, and a restroom inside too~ There's more seating tucked in further back, so the interior doesn't feel cramped.

## What we ordered: medium bossam and clam kalguksu

This time we ordered the medium bossam and the new clam kalguksu from Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu Main Branch.

![Side dishes set out after ordering](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongi-dambaek-clam-kalguksu-suyuk/pyeongi-dambaek-clam-kalguksu-suyuk-11-1savc-966.webp)

After the side dishes were set down, we waited a bit and the bossam came out first.

![Plate of medium-size bossam served first](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongi-dambaek-clam-kalguksu-suyuk/pyeongi-dambaek-clam-kalguksu-suyuk-12-1nxoa-966.webp)
*A Hapjeong bossam favorite, Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu Main Branch, paired with clam kalguksu*

It's quite different from the neatly sliced bossam you usually see, which felt a little odd at first — but now it feels like this is just how it should be, because once you taste the meat you realize it's something special.

Cut into chunky pieces, it feels even chewier — and eating it with the side radish salad, kimchi, and cabbage wraps, you really have to admit it's generous, so generous.

There's also a ₩5,000 discount on anchovy kalguksu when you order bossam, which is what we usually get — but this time, since the new menu had just come out, we waited for the clam kalguksu instead!

![Pot of clam kalguksu loaded with clams](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongi-dambaek-clam-kalguksu-suyuk/pyeongi-dambaek-clam-kalguksu-suyuk-15-1n6mb-966.webp)

## How spicy is the broth, and how many clams come in the clam kalguksu?

There was a good amount of pepper sprinkled on top too, which my husband and I loved since we both like pepper! This is a place to properly enjoy the combination of soft, tender bossam and kalguksu — and eating it, you understand exactly why regulars are known for coming back again and again.

I was genuinely surprised by how loaded with clams it was. With plenty of chili and green onion scattered on top too, you can tell right away this noodle soup is exactly our type!

There were so many clams packed in that we started digging them out one by one. These days I rarely buy clams to cook at home myself, so this noodle soup felt like a real treat.

Stirring it around, you can see just how much chewy kalguksu noodles are in there too — we each scooped out broth to our own bowls, and eating it alongside the bossam made for a filling, easy-on-the-stomach meal.

### Drinking soju with bossam at Pyeongidambaek

This is genuinely a soju-summoning dish, so there was no way we could skip it. A cool broth that pairs perfectly with soju! Eating it alongside bossam makes for both a hearty meal and great drinking food — this rediscovered just how good a meal can feel.

![Enjoying clam kalguksu broth with a glass of soju](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongi-dambaek-clam-kalguksu-suyuk/pyeongi-dambaek-clam-kalguksu-suyuk-19-1no3t-966.webp)

No matter how much you eat, more clams keep turning up, and the broth stays cool and spicy. With plenty of cheongyang chili peppers in there too, this is a style of kalguksu I hadn't tasted anywhere else.

We kept eating the chewy bossam bite after bite, enjoying it however we liked — a full, satisfying meal or drinking snack either way, and we left feeling very content with our day.
