## In short

Jeongju Ilga is a Korean bar built around traditional liquors, tucked into a Mangridan-gil alley in Mapo, Seoul. The medium Jeongju bossam (boiled pork with wraps) costs 27,000 won and arrives over a hot water pouch that keeps the pork warm and moist to the last bite, and the bulgogi buchujeon (bulgogi and chive pancake) costs 18,000 won. For a good-vibes Mangwon bar, Jeongju Ilga's bossam is worth ordering in the large size.

I'm a makgeolli lover, and lately I've especially fallen for Korean-style pubs — today I found a Mangwon spot that nails both taste and atmosphere.

## Where is Jeongju Ilga and how late does it stay open?

Jeongju Ilga is a Korean-style bar in the Mangridan-gil alley, at 1F, 66 Poeun-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul. Hours are weekdays 18:00–02:00 (last order 01:00) and weekends 17:00–02:00 the next day (last order 01:00). ### What Jeongju Ilga looks like from the street

Walking through Mangridan-gil, the Jeongju Ilga sign comes into view. Jeongju Ilga (정주일가) means, in Chinese characters, roughly "the first house selling proper Korean liquor."

Mangwon has so much to do, right? It's a great stop after a Mangwon Market tour or a picnic at Hangang Park — perfect route for a Mangwon bar visit.

## A menu that is more than half traditional Korean liquor

Jeongju Ilga is a Mangwon Korean bar where familiar side dishes make traditional liquor feel a bit more approachable and casual. More than half the menu is makgeolli and other traditional liquors — this place is serious about Korean drinks.

## Inside Jeongju Ilga: the mood and the window seats

![Jeongju Ilga's cozy interior seating](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon-05-1dtv2-900.webp)

We came a bit past opening, so seats were still open and we sat right down. By past 6, though, it was fully packed — on a Sunday, no less. This feels like a real neighborhood favorite that regulars already know.

![Jeongju Ilga's window seats with an outdoor-market feel](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon-06-fbchm-900.webp)

The interior is cozy, with window seats that give an outdoor-market feel and soft lighting that makes the space warm and quiet. Oriental-style paintings on the walls add even more to the mood of this Mangwon Korean bar.

![Jeongju Ilga's Korean-style table lamp](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon-08-18od0-900.webp)

The table lamp had such pretty Korean-style charm. And there was even a wireless charger at the table? My phone was at 20% and I was panicking about photos — total lifesaver, haha.

The complimentary starter was crispy fried dried filefish. I'm usually a Jangsu makgeolli person, but today Jipyeong caught my eye, haha.

## Jeongju bossam (27,000 won): served over a hot water pouch

Jeongju Ilga's signature dish, bossam, runs in limited daily quantities, with the small size at ₩27,000. It comes in medium/large sizes — we ordered small since we wanted two dishes!

![Jeongju Ilga's medium-size bossam spread](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon-11-1p7cr-900.webp)

![Thickly sliced Jeongju bossam meat](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon-12-22yxx-900.webp)

Spoiler: it was plenty for two, but the bossam was so much more delicious than expected that we kept saying "we should've gotten large" about five thousand times during the meal.

![Medium bossam plate, plenty for two people](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon-13-1r8zb-900.webp)

There was a clear plastic layer under the bossam plate — turns out it's a hot water pouch placed underneath to keep the meat warm.

![Hot water pouch placed under the bossam plate](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon-14-114ef-900.webp)

I touched it by hand and it was genuinely hot — surprised me, haha. Thanks to that, the meat stayed warm and moist with zero dryness even as time passed. That hot water pouch is such a smart touch!

![Plate of lettuce wraps, dried radish, garlic, and ssamjang](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon-16-15adp-900.webp)

The bossam came with a full plate of fresh lettuce wraps, chives, dried radish strips, garlic, chili, and ssamjang (dipping paste) — a really solid spread. There's tofu too, which I love, and you can even refill the vegetables if you run low.

I won't say much more — you should just eat the bossam. The lean meat and fat hit a golden ratio, clean but rich in flavor — the moment I tasted it with potato, my eyebrows shot up in disbelief.

![A piece of bossam with a good lean-to-fat ratio](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon-18-sf5yg-900.webp)

Sliced thick enough to keep a chewy texture, yet soft and tender — it practically melts the second it hits your mouth. Honestly, the owner could run a bossam specialty shop instead of a Mangwon bar and it'd work, no joke.

![Bossam on a hot water pouch, medium size, and bulgogi buchujeon at Jeongju Ilga in Mangridan-gil](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon-19-18jd6-900.webp)

Piled high with dried radish, garlic, chives, and tofu, wrapped up and taken in one big bite. Bossam plus dried radish strips is always a winning combo.

## Bulgogi buchujeon (18,000 won): a cheesy pancake kept hot on a burner

Jeongju Ilga's bulgogi buchujeon (bulgogi chive pancake) is ₩18,000, and it comes with its own burner so you can enjoy it warm to the very last bite. Coming to a Mangwon Korean bar, you've got to order a jeon (savory pancake)!

![Jeongju Ilga's bulgogi buchujeon](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon-20-18wy3-900.webp)

There were so many unusual jeon combos — cheese kkakdugi pancake, pepperoni potato pancake — that I spent ages deciding, haha.

![Menu listing unusual jeon combinations](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon-21-17bir-900.webp)

So pretty, right? A generously fried pancake base topped with bulgogi, then a heap of finely shredded cheese on top!

![Bulgogi buchujeon topped with plenty of cheese](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon-22-wbpho-900.webp)

With the burner keeping it warm, even the last piece stayed hot, and the melted cheese over the bulgogi gave off a sweet, savory scent that seriously worked on my appetite.

![Buchujeon kept warm on a tabletop burner](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon-23-w4doq-900.webp)

The batter is thin, not thick, giving it a soft texture, and with less oil the chive fragrance comes through cleanly — a depth you don't often find at a bar near Mangwon Station.

![Cross-section of the thinly fried bulgogi buchujeon](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon/jeongju-ilga-mangwon-bossam-buchujeon-24-r2wyg-900.webp)

Above all, the bulgogi-and-cheese flavor combo is genuinely amazing. Sweet and savory together — it tastes less like a jeon from a Mangwon bar and more like a fancy bulgogi cheese pizza at a Western restaurant!

## Is Jeongju Ilga worth a second visit?

Honestly, tucked away in the Mangridan-gil alley, it looked like it might be just an average Mangwon bar — but the food quality completely won me over. I'm already planning to make this my regular reservation spot for Mangwon dates, haha. If you're looking for a Mangwon Korean bar with good vibes and great food, I highly recommend it!
