## In short

Yongsan Donkatsu Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang, Yongsan branch is an old-school gyeongyangsik (Western-style Korean) pork cutlet restaurant on Baekbeom-ro near Hyochang Park Station in Yongsan, Seoul. Arriving right at opening with a mother who usually eats very little, we ordered the gyeongyangsik pork cutlet set and the cheddar cheese pork cutlet set, and the buckwheat soba served with each set was big enough to pass for a single order — both bowls went down to the last noodle. Onjeong is the place to go for thin, wide old-style cutlets when thick Japanese katsu starts to feel heavy.

## What kind of pork cutlet restaurant is Onjeong in Yongsan?

In search of the taste of old-school gyeongyangsik pork cutlet. Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang in Yongsan serves a style completely different from thick Japanese-style pork cutlet — meat pounded thin and wide, doused generously in their special demi-glace sauce! Curious about the crowds at lunchtime, I went on an opening run.

### A neighborhood diner feel on Baekbeom-ro

Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang has a warm, welcoming exterior with a cute bear 🐻, giving it the easygoing feel of a neighborhood restaurant you can just casually drop into.

## Onjeong's menu and how ordering works

Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang offers a wide range — gyeongyangsik pork cutlet, spicy pork cutlet, cheese pork cutlet, curry pork cutlet — plus set menus that come with udon or buckwheat soba. Set menus come with one cutlet, while single orders come with two.

You order easily via kiosk at the entrance. It's one menu item per person, and right now you get a free drink for writing a Naver review.

## Inside Onjeong: seating and bar tables

Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang just opened recently, so it's genuinely spotless — nothing worn or shabby anywhere. Sitting down, you immediately feel how clean and pleasant it is!

It's just past 11am and customers are already trickling in one by one. Living up to its reputation as a Yongsan pork cutlet hotspot! The space isn't huge so tables can run out during peak times, but there's a bar table too, so solo diners can comfortably dig in.

### Free rice and side dish refills at Onjeong

Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang lets you refill rice and side dishes. The portions are already huge, so I'm curious how many people actually go for a refill, haha. The water cups are kept neatly in a sanitizer. I'm not a fan of water served in plastic containers, so it's nice that you can use the water dispenser yourself.

### Onjeong uses only Korean-grown ingredients

Rice, pork, kkakdugi (radish kimchi), and vegetables are all domestically sourced. On top of that, they say they use a Suyu-style fryer with fresh oil managed daily. My picky mom's satisfaction level: rising.

## The gyeongyangsik and cheddar cheese pork cutlet sets

Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang's pork cutlets come out beautifully arranged on the table. Mom and I both love soba so we ordered the set menus, but... the soba portion alone was basically a full single order.

### Gyeongyangsik pork cutlet with buckwheat soba

A hefty cutlet with a piece of bread, a mound of rice, cream soup, and buckwheat soba. The soup is thin but still delicious!

### Sauce poured over the cutlet, still crisp to the end

The thinly pounded meat is coated wall-to-wall in breading with no gaps. The tender texture combined with the crunch keeps you slicing away nonstop.

### Cheddar cheese pork cutlet with buckwheat soba

The cheddar cheese pork cutlet, piled high without holding back. Just looking at it you'd think it'd be way too rich, but somehow you keep going back for more — it's a magic menu item.

Cutlets stuffed with mozzarella inside the meat tend to get too rich and I can't finish them, but this cheddar cheese cutlet? Cleared it completely, no leftovers.

Finishing with the refreshing buckwheat soba cleans the oiliness right out of your mouth.

Mom normally eats very small portions, but she said this soba was so good she polished off every last noodle, haha.

## Is Onjeong in Yongsan worth an opening-run visit?

Delicious, generous portions, a spotless restaurant, and friendly staff. Onjeong nails taste, hygiene, and service all at once as a Yongsan pork cutlet hotspot! If you've gotten tired of Japanese-style katsu, I recommend the gyeongyangsik pork cutlet at Onjeong Gyeongyang Sikdang — thin-pounded pork in a clean, crisp coating!
