My friend and I went to Sangkai Izakaya Bangi Branch, in the dining alley of Bangi-dong, on a weekday evening ★·.·´¯`·.·★

It was a weekday evening but we got seated right away with no wait, and the prices were friendlier than other places nearby, so we went up without thinking twice. Bottom line up front: it was a generous-portion, good-value izakaya in Bangi-dong. Let me run through what we ate, the seating, and even the restroom situation ꒰ᐢ. .ᐢ꒱₊˚⊹♡

## What kind of izakaya is Sangkai Izakaya Bangi Branch?

Sangkai is an izakaya brand with several branches around the country, known for making its side dishes in-house rather than using pre-made products. The menu spans sashimi, tempura, nabe (hot pot), and skewers, so it was easy to pick something even with two different tastes at the table.

## How to find the entrance in the Bangi-dong alley

![Exterior of the Sangkai Bangi Branch building in Bangi-dong's dining alley](https://img.superchart.com/images/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang-02-1vya4-900.webp)

![Lit-up sign reading Sangkai Entrance](https://img.superchart.com/images/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang-03-1uffz-900.webp)

The whole 2nd and 3rd floors of the building are Sangkai, so you can sense the scale from outside. The entrance was easy to find — there's a separate lit-up sign on the side of the building reading 'Sangkai Entrance.'

![Sign next to the first-floor elevator for group seating and private rooms](https://img.superchart.com/images/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang-04-dtvdc-900.webp)

Next to the elevator on the first floor there's a sign for the 2nd/3rd floor group seating and private rooms — just take the elevator straight up.

## Booths, private rooms and the mood inside Sangkai

![Spacious main hall interior at Sangkai Bangi Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang-05-o8mjr-900.webp)

![Izakaya interior wrapped in indirect lighting](https://img.superchart.com/images/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang-06-4lu3v-900.webp)

![View of open seating available on a weekday evening](https://img.superchart.com/images/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang-07-bhz6r-900.webp)

The first thing I noticed was that it was much bigger than expected. Even at 7pm on a weekday, there was plenty of open seating and no wait. The ceiling is kept dark with warm, paper-lantern-style indirect lighting around it, so the overall lighting feels cozy.

![Booth seats divided by partitions](https://img.superchart.com/images/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang-08-rmecp-900.webp)

Seating is mostly booths divided by partitions, so even in the main hall it feels private. Conversations at neighboring tables don't really bleed over, which made it easy for the two of us to talk.

There was even an outlet by the wall, which was handy for charging our phones.

The window seats look out through full-length windows onto the signs of Bangi-dong's dining alley, which looked great for setting the mood. If you want something quieter there are 2–6 person rooms, group seating for 8 or more, and you can even rent out the whole 3rd floor ᰔᩚ♡ᰔᩚ

You order via the tablet on each table, and the basic side dishes come out first once you're seated.

## What two people ordered for 68,000 won

We only ordered these two dishes between the two of us, and honestly, that was enough.

![Salmon and beef tataki served alongside beef brisket jjamppong](https://img.superchart.com/images/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang-13-1hb8s-900.webp)

- Salmon + beef tataki: ₩35,000
- Spicy beef brisket jjamppong: ₩22,000
- Saero soju (x2 bottles): ₩11,000
- → Total: ₩68,000 (for two, with a friend)

Given the price, the portions were genuinely huge — the two of us left completely full.

### Raw salmon with beef tataki, 35,000 won

![Plate of thickly sliced salmon and beef tataki](https://img.superchart.com/images/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang-14-6eqhq-900.webp)

![Cross-section of beef tataki seared only on the outside](https://img.superchart.com/images/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang-15-w2mxu-900.webp)

★ Salmon + beef tataki ★ This was the most memorable dish. Both the salmon and the tataki came in thick slices, so a single piece filled your mouth. The salmon had visible grain and a rich, fatty savoriness that built up the more you chewed. The tataki was seared only on the outside and left red inside, so it chewed soft before a pop of pepper flavor from the seasoning on the surface came through.

![Sashimi plate served with salad and onions](https://img.superchart.com/images/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang-16-ecrfu-900.webp)

![Salmon served with wasabi and lemon](https://img.superchart.com/images/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang/sankai-bangi-chadol-jjamppong-tang-17-38yz9-900.webp)

There's a salad drizzled with sauce in the middle, with onions layered underneath — eating them along the way kept things from feeling heavy. Wasabi and lemon came on the side too, and I liked putting a little wasabi on the salmon and squeezing lemon over it.

There were also two kinds of dipping sauce served alongside.

### Spicy beef brisket jjamppong hotpot, 22,000 won

★ Spicy beef brisket jjamppong ★ This one actually surprised me. It comes out piled high with bean sprouts and enoki mushrooms, and you boil it on a burner at the table as you eat. But every time you scoop with the ladle, more beef brisket keeps coming up. Just when you think you've finished it, more meat shows up, then udon noodles, then more meat again...

With that much brisket going in, the fat keeps rendering into the broth, so it gets richer the longer it boils. It's spicy and sharp, but the brisket fat leaves a savory finish, and the bean sprouts stay crunchy — it went perfectly with soju ᰔᩚ♡ᰔᩚ

Rating: ★★★★★ 5/5. Two side dishes and two bottles of soju for two of us came to ₩68,000 total, and between the thick-cut salmon and tataki and the bottomless brisket in the jjamppong, there was nothing lacking in either portion size or flavor.
