I've been tossing and turning in my sleep the last few days, feeling all woozy and out of it 🌀 — my whole body was craving some serious boyangsik (Korean vitality food). Just a couple of nights of bad sleep really does a number on you these days... So off I went to eat the king of all vitality foods, eel, at [Songnim Bok Jangeo Unlimited Freshwater Eel Seongsu Branch]!

## How to walk from Seongsu Station to Songnim Bok Jangeo

Songnim Bok Jangeo Seongsu Branch is at 148 Seongdeokjeong-gil, 1st floor, Seongdong-gu, Seoul. It's about a 15-minute walk from Seongsu Station, which felt pretty far, so I took the bus instead. The bus stops in this alley are packed super close together, so you really have to pay attention to get off at the right one.

### What the restaurant looks like from the street

The sign is huge so it caught my eye right away. Turns out it might be a chain run by the YouTuber Yasaengma! There's a big photo of him out front. Since this is a directly-operated branch, I went in with even higher expectations.

### Booking by phone for 6pm on a weekday: was there a wait?

I made a reservation by calling the restaurant. When I arrived on a weekday at 6pm, two tables were already eating, and groups and couples kept steadily coming in after that. There was no wait at all!

### Inside Songnim Bok Jangeo Seongsu Branch

The place isn't huge, but it has quite a lot of tables, so I think you could eat without waiting even during busy hours. The tables are round metal ones, which instantly put me in a good mood 😆 I love this kind of table. Just looking at it makes me feel like the drinks are going to flow freely..!

It's an eel all-you-can-eat restaurant, but you can also help yourself to pork belly and chicken neck meat from the self-bar. Basically a place where you can eat land, sea, and air all at once..!! Apparently they're able to keep eel prices low because they're partnered with a wholesale supplier through the fisheries cooperative.

Unlimited eel, pork belly, and chicken neck meat for around ₩20,000 — that's peak value for money 👏 They also had a variety of meal items. Instead of the usual naengmyeon (cold noodles), they had buckwheat makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles), which somehow paired even better with the eel 👀 ✅ Table charge: ₩3,000 (excludes children)

At first the staff brings out a little of everything from the self-bar for you. After that, you just help yourself.

A place that gives you complimentary bokbunja (Korean black raspberry) wine? Right here, apparently! Since they'd just opened recently, it seemed like an opening event perk. Thanks to that, we saved on drinks and started the meal in a great mood〰️

## Plump Korean-grown eel and how to grill it

Genuinely mouth-watering, plump eel visuals..🤤 I came in worried that all-you-can-eat might mean skinny Chinese-imported eel, but it was all domestic and impressively plump 🥹

There was a guide on the wall for how to grill the eel deliciously, so I followed it: grill the skin side first, and once it's mostly cooked, trim a bit off both fins, flip it over to grill the inside, and finish it standing it upright carefully so it doesn't burn!!

With the side dishes, the whole spread looked so-o generous. Sauce was set at every table, and we dipped as we ate.

Look how big and plump it is, right?🐽 A truly plump eel is basically the same as meat — no, actually five hundred times better...

Dip that plump eel in plenty of sauce and it somehow tastes like fried chicken..! Crispy outside, super moist inside — I nearly lost it 👏 And honestly, eel definitely tastes best eaten with a generous pile of ginger. And now that I can just scoop as much ginger as I want from the self-bar without feeling awkward about it, I can't even describe how happy that makes me..

But at the end of the day, the eel was so ridiculously delicious that we went back for another literal 'unlimited refill'! The privilege of piling up eel and eating to your heart's content, absolutely insane 👍👍👍

[Songnim Bok Jangeo Unlimited Freshwater Eel Seongsu Branch] — my Seongsu eel spot for restoring worn-out energy! I felt bad for worrying that the all-you-can-eat format would mean lower quality eel, because the eel was genuinely high quality. The staff were also so kind, which doubled, tripled, quadrupled my happiness... My partner was running late, so while I was fumbling to grill alone, a staff member came over and grilled it for me personally, explaining everything in detail 🥹👍 After we finished eating and stepped outside, we agreed this place was seriously good and we should come back — and I decided right then, the moment we walked out, that I'd be back.
