I visited Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch (닭갈비전 강남점) near Sinnonhyeon Station with my mother. We arrived a little after lunchtime and had the Gamssadak two-person set. It came with a perilla-leaf potato pancake, and we added udon noodles and flying-fish-roe steamed egg before ordering fried rice to finish.

## How do you find it from Sinnonhyeon Station?

We walked from Gangnam Station toward Sinnonhyeon Station. We followed the main road, then went into a side street to find it, and it felt manageable to walk from the subway station.

Follow the building stairs up and you will see Dakgalbijeon. We entered the restaurant on the right on the second floor.

## What are the atmosphere and seating like?

The interior had a slightly retro feel. It was a space where you could come for a casual meal, with a bit of a bar-like atmosphere too.

There was a self-service side-dish area along the wall. I like pickled radish wraps, so I went back for more a few times.

The kitchen was toward the back of the restaurant, and we chose a window seat.

The table displayed two-person sets with cheese dakgalbi and regular dakgalbi. We chose the standard Gamssadak two-person set and added udon noodles and flying-fish-roe steamed egg.

The Gamssadak set included a perilla-leaf potato pancake. I had never tried potato pancake with perilla leaves before and was curious, but it combined two ingredients I like. I especially remember how thinly it was cooked.

## How were the dakgalbi seasoning and add-ons?

The dakgalbi arrived partly cooked, so we did not have to wait long before eating. Since they knew I was dining with my mother that day, they made the sauce a little milder.

The udon noodles we added did not arrive with the dakgalbi and were brought separately later. At the time, I wondered whether the owner had missed them because they were busy, but I did not confirm the reason.

The flying-fish-roe steamed egg was soft rather than firm. I also liked the texture of the roe inside. It felt larger than the steamed eggs I usually have at restaurants, so I thought it would be fine to share among three or four people.

## How much food is there if you add fried rice?

At first, the dakgalbi looked small, but as we ate, there was more than I expected. I briefly considered whether to add fried rice, then ordered one serving of flying-fish-roe fried rice. My mother does not eat cheese, so I chose the roe version.

The owner mixed the fried rice for us. We could have eaten it right away, but I like the taste when it gets slightly crisp on the bottom, so we let it cook a little longer.

Even one serving of fried rice felt quite generous. Overall, it reminded me of the dakgalbi I had eaten in Chuncheon, and for me, it felt like a well-rounded meal for the price.
