Today I wanted a hearty meal in Seomyeon's Jeonpo neighborhood, so I visited Sanbandeul Pork Gukbap, Seomyeon Jeonpo Café Street Main Branch. Pork gukbap (pork soup with rice) is one of the dishes that naturally comes to mind when I think of Busan, and I'd heard this place does it a little differently, so I went in curious. Stepping inside Sanbandeul, the space felt overall clean and tidy. There were bar-style seats, 2-person tables, and larger tables for groups, making the space suitable for everything from a solo visit to a meal with several people.

Jeonpo Café Street is full of stylish spots, so I tend to care about atmosphere even for a meal here, and this place stood out more for its comfortable, unfussy cleanliness than any over-decorated look.

## What does the 9,900-won gukbap and flame-grilled suyuk set taste like?

What caught my eye first was the gukbap charred suyuk set. Sanbandeul uses a French cooking method to tenderize the pork rather than the usual boiling approach.

The pork shoulder and forearm are aged, cured, then cooked at low temperature, and eating it, there was no toughness at all — just a moist, tender texture that stood out. On top of that, char-grilling added a subtle smoky aroma. The broth is a bit different from what you'd expect from typical Busan-style pork gukbap: it's made from domestic pork leg bones and aromatic vegetables simmered for a long time, plus a special sauce using anchovy and seafood, which gives it a distinct umami flavor rather than just heaviness. Adding the soft-boiled egg made it even richer, with the creamy yolk rounding things out. Compared to the pork gukbap I'm used to, this one definitely has its own character.

Next I tried the mul-milmyeon, and ordering it alongside a hot soup dish made for a great combination. The cool broth and chewy noodles cleaned the palate nicely.

It was a fun visit — a familiar Busan comfort food reimagined in a new way. Sanbandeul has enough of its own distinct charm compared to the pork gukbap places I already knew that I'd want to come back and try more of the menu. If you're looking for somewhere to eat on Jeonpo Café Street, it's worth a stop.
