## A Guro Digital Complex Chinese restaurant I visited alone after work

You know those days after work when you think, “It feels like such a waste to just go straight home today!”? This was exactly one of those days. After working all day, I was hungry, craving something spicy, and wanted a refreshing drink too, so I set out alone after work to find a good spot in Gudi (Guro Digital Complex). The place I visited was Junghwa Yori Hyeon (중화요리현), located in Guro Digital Complex.

Junghwa Yori Hyeon is on basement level 1 of A's Twin Tower 1. It is within walking distance of Guro Digital Complex Station; according to actual visitor reviews, it is about a 10-minute walk. For anyone working in Gudi, it is in a convenient spot not only for lunch but also for dinner after work, like I did!

If you drive, you can use the parking lot at A's Twin Tower 1. Recent online visitor reviews have cited the first 60 minutes as free, then ₩2,000 per additional 30 minutes. However, Tabling currently lists it as “paid parking,” so it is most accurate to check with the restaurant on the day of your visit for the actual free-parking conditions and hours.

I arrived at Junghwa Yori Hyeon on foot from Guro Digital Complex Station! The restaurant is inside A's Twin Tower 1. Once I went into the building, I could see the Junghwa Yori Hyeon sign, so it was easy to find even on my first visit. I visited after work, and since Gudi is an office district, it felt like a good location for dinner or a drink after work too.

## Seating and a menu for solo meals or gatherings

Inside, there was a wider variety of seating than I expected. There were table seats well suited to groups, plus separated seating areas on one side as shown in the photos, so it looked good for either a meal or a gathering. I came alone after work that day! When I go to a Chinese restaurant alone, I often quickly eat just one bowl of jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and leave. But since I did not want to head straight home that day, I decided to take my time with the dishes I wanted and a drink too, haha.

Looking over the menu, there were considerably more choices than I expected. There was basic jjajangmyeon for ₩6,000, ganjjajang (stir-fried black bean noodles) for ₩7,000, and seafood ganjjajang for ₩9,000, as well as tray jjajang, spicy tray jjajang, and chili jjajang. The jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) selection was also quite broad, from basic jjamppong to seafood jjamppong, seafood chili jjamppong, extra-spicy fire jjamppong, and brisket jjamppong. They also have cooked dishes including tangsuyuk (sweet-and-sour fried pork).

Once I had ordered and was waiting, the food came out so quickly! I was quite hungry after work, so I loved that the spicy black bean noodles and mini tangsuyuk arrived without a long wait, haha. And once all the dishes were laid out together, they looked more generous than I had expected.

## Fiery spicy black bean noodles

First, the spicy black bean noodles I had been most curious about that day! The first thing I noticed as soon as they arrived was that they had far more toppings than regular jjajangmyeon. The rich black bean sauce was packed with onions and chili peppers, and seafood such as shrimp was visible too, as you can see in the photos. It looked quite generous for ₩9,500.

Before eating, I mixed the noodles and sauce thoroughly. There was plenty of sauce, so the thick jjajang sauce coated every strand well. And since it is called spicy black bean noodles, I was a little nervous about how hot it would be before taking a bite! It had the sweet, rich flavor typical of regular jjajang, with chili peppers adding a spicy kick. It is the kind of bold dish I think I would crave after work, haha.

Jjajangmyeon can sometimes start to feel rich as you eat, but the spiciness cut through it every so often, so I kept reaching for more. The portion was more generous than expected too, making Junghwa Yori Hyeon's spicy black bean noodles a very satisfying solo meal in Gudi!

## Mini tangsuyuk that is great alongside a solo meal

I did not want to have only the spicy black bean noodles, so I ordered mini tangsuyuk alongside them! I wondered whether ordering tangsuyuk while dining alone would be too much food, but there was a ₩10,000 mini size, so I added it without hesitation, haha. As you can see in the photo, it came with tangsuyuk sauce and vegetables such as onions and carrots. Rather than looking completely soaked in sauce from the start, some of the fried coating still looked crisp.

When I picked one up, I found that it was not just thick batter—it had a proper, thick piece of pork inside, making the cross-section look nicely substantial too.

Dip a piece in the sweet-and-savory tangsuyuk sauce, then take a bite of the spicy black bean noodles, and the combination is so good! In particular, alternating between the heat of the noodles and the sweetness of the tangsuyuk made it easy to keep eating without getting tired of either flavor. Best of all, I did not have to give up having tangsuyuk with my jjajangmyeon just because I was alone, haha. On days when you want to properly enjoy Chinese food while eating alone in Gudi, a mini dish like this is definitely welcome.

## How spicy are the spicy black bean noodles?

Personally, I found them about as spicy as Buldak 볶음면 (Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen). This is not just mildly spicy jjajang—the fiery heat builds as you eat! Please keep that in mind if you do not handle spicy food well. :)

- Taste: The spicy black bean noodles had fiery heat similar to Buldak 볶음면! They paired very well with the sweet mini tangsuyuk.
