## In short

Suksudaega is a hanok-style Korean set-meal restaurant in Anjung, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi. Visiting late in pregnancy with her partner, the writer ordered one weekday-only braised king short rib set and one Beopseongpo dried yellow croaker set at 39,000 won each, seated in the four-person room No. 5 for a course running from pumpkin porridge, beef tartare, and rice cake ribs to hot-pot rice, scorched rice tea, and plum tea. Coming as a couple still meant getting to try two different mains, which made the visit feel worthwhile.

*Here's a sneak peek of today's food photos!*

Today I want to write about a Korean set-meal restaurant I heard was great in Anjung. A luxurious hanok atmosphere and a variety of neatly plated courses! It's apparently also a spot people visit for hanjeongsik (Korean full-course set meal) paired with wine — some even call it the "Pyeongtaek hanjeongsik Dom Pérignon place." It's also perfect for meeting your in-laws or a family gathering in Pyeongtaek. This place is...

## Suksudaega location, parking, and hours

- Parking: private lot in front of the restaurant
- Hours: Mon–Sun 11:30–20:50
- Break time: 15:30–17:30

Suksudaega sits down a quiet alley in Anjung! With its banner, big sign, and standing signboard, it's not hard to find even on your first visit. It's right next to Songdam Kalguksu, and there's a private lot in front, so parking was easy.

## The hanok courtyard and entrance atmosphere

Walking through the grand gate, you see beautifully landscaped grounds! Everything was so nicely maintained, and with the lush weather it felt great. There was even a spot in the yard to sit and chat.

*Restaurant entrance*

Stepping inside, there was a faint scent of cypress wood~ True to its reputation as the Pyeongtaek hanjeongsik Dom Pérignon spot, there were lots of wine bottles on display. Seems like a nice place for a special occasion too!

Actually, I first found out about Suksudaega a while back while looking for a Pyeongtaek hanjeongsik spot for my mom's birthday gathering, and I'd wanted to come ever since~ Right from the entrance you could see various awards, and the owner apparently studied hotel culinary arts, which made me even more excited! Chuseok (Korean harvest holiday) was also coming up, and they had nice gulbi (dried croaker) gift sets for sale.

## Even for two, a 4-person room — what are the room seats like?

The interior had an elegant hanok design with more private rooms than I expected! There were separate restrooms for men and women, plus a wine fridge stocked with various bottles.

My partner and I came as a couple and were shown to room No. 5. We were seated in a 4-person room, and being a private-room restaurant made it easy to talk!

## Weekday-only set, ordered differently per person

At Suksudaega everything comes as a hanjeongsik course, and you can order one menu per person. There were weekday-only menus as well as fuller course options with even more variety. We wanted to try two different mains among the weekday-only options, so we asked if we could each order one — one king short rib braise and one dried croaker — and they said yes, so we ordered one of each!

- Weekday-only braised king short rib set: ₩39,000
- Weekday-only Beopseongpo dried croaker set: ₩39,000

On the table, tableware, wet wipes, paper cups, tissues, and water bottles were set out for each person. They mentioned that writing a review lets you enjoy Dom Pérignon too, so if you like wine, that's worth joining!

Soon after, they brought over warm hand towels on a tray. My hands were swollen from being at the end of my pregnancy, so wiping them with the warm towel felt weirdly like getting a massage, so relaxing...! I personally loved this kind of small touch.

## The first course spread

Right from the first course, the food came out in real variety. Pumpkin porridge, dongchimi (watery radish kimchi), a seasonal salad, a perilla leaf wrap dish, royal japchae (glass noodles), jeonyuhwa (pan-fried savory pancakes), a bulgogi cold salad topped with fried burdock, Korean beef tteokgalbi (short rib patties), shrimp with pine nut dressing, and Korean beef yukhoe (beef tartare) all arrived. Seeing the table fully spread out was a feast just to look at.

First, the dongchimi had that refreshing tang, perfect for waking up the appetite before the meal, and the black sesame salad even had tomato with a black sesame dressing that made it taste fresh! The dressing was sweet and nutty, so good!! I don't know the name of the perilla wrap dish, but the moment my partner put it in his mouth he went "whoa!" haha. As the fragrant perilla leaf scent spread, it was a dish I'd never tried before and it was delicious!

The japchae also had generous ingredients, and the perilla-leaf pancake came out too — packed inside and great texture! The bulgogi cold salad was piled high with mung bean sprouts and fried burdock, and the mix of textures was fun! The tteokgalbi had insanely juicy meat too, and the shrimp with pine nut dressing came with potato chips on top, sweet dressing and delicious. The yukhoe was fresh and nutty too!

Dishes came out matched to the number of people, which made tasting each one fun, and they gave us small plates to portion things onto. Eating through each dish one by one, the plating was so neat that even everyday ingredients felt transformed into something special...! It felt like a royal court meal.

*Second course*

## Braised king short ribs and dried croaker, the second course

The pace of the food coming out was quite fast, which I liked. Next came the main dish menus, which were nice to enjoy alongside everything already on the table.

![Braised king short ribs covered in sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-anjung-weekday-course-hanjeongsik/pyeongtaek-anjung-weekday-course-hanjeongsik-21-1sgna-900.webp)

One of the mains, the braised king short ribs! In a bowl full of sauce sat two big pieces of meat, easy to share with my partner! The meat was simmered until tender in a sweet sauce base, and the soft meat went great with rice.

And then the golden-brown dried croaker! Dried croaker can be divisive for some because of its distinct fishy edge, but I didn't taste any of that at all, and eating it again after a long time, it was such a great side with rice.

![Golden-brown grilled Beopseongpo dried croaker](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-anjung-weekday-course-hanjeongsik/pyeongtaek-anjung-weekday-course-hanjeongsik-22-m62dz-900.webp)

![Five side dishes served with pot rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-anjung-weekday-course-hanjeongsik/pyeongtaek-anjung-weekday-course-hanjeongsik-23-t08cc-900.webp)

![Rich doenjang jjigae and pot rice with scorched rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-anjung-weekday-course-hanjeongsik/pyeongtaek-anjung-weekday-course-hanjeongsik-24-virog-900.webp)

Five side dishes came out along with individual pot rice and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) for each person. The stew was rich and the vegetables were cooked just right, great texture too. A Korean meal really does need a stew!!

Once you finish the pot rice, you've got to have the scorched rice too! Dried croaker with scorched rice was a great combo. For dessert, sweet plum tea that's good for digestion! A perfect way to finish the meal.

## Good for two, good for family gatherings too?

Overall, lunch at Suksudaega was really satisfying! The upscale hanok setting and variety of courses let us enjoy the meal at a relaxed pace. The plating was pretty too, and being served each neat dish one at a time made tasting everything fun. If you're looking for a nice-atmosphere hanjeongsik spot in Pyeongtaek, a family gathering venue around Anjung, or that Pyeongtaek hanjeongsik Dom Pérignon place, let's go to Suksudaega!!
