Today I'm writing about a jjambbong (spicy seafood noodle soup) place in Godeok-myeon, Pyeongtaek, that's apparently full of smoky wok-fried flavor — my partner and I had a great lunch there. The place I still keep thinking about, with that spicy smoky aroma, is none other than

## Weekday lunch at Jangsu Jjambbong Jeonmunjeom: seating and amenities

Jangsu Jjambbong Jeonmunjeom is fairly spacious with plenty of seats. That bold red interior that instantly says Chinese restaurant! haha

I visited on a weekday during lunch hour — since it's near an air force base, I saw quite a few soldiers, and plenty of solo diners too, which made me think it's a local favorite in Godeok.

## What two people ordered, and what it cost

Since it's a jjambbong specialty restaurant, there was a wide variety of jjambbong on the menu! From the regular kind to all sorts of variations — and among them, Gobul Jjambbong was something I'd never seen before, so I decided to try it!

- Gobul Jjambbong ₩12,000
- Shrimp fried rice, large ₩12,000
- Sweet and sour pork, small ₩15,000

There's a tablet at the table, so you can order and pay from your seat without any hassle.

## What does Gobul Jjambbong taste like? (12,000 won)

Gobul Jjambbong turns out to be a gochujang bulgogi jjambbong. When I asked the owner about it, they told me it's on the spicy side, which only made me more curious!

*Gobul Jjambbong (₩12,000)*

On top of the Gobul Jjambbong was a generous pile of smoky gochujang bulgogi, along with plenty of onion, green onion garnish, and sesame seeds.

The moment it arrived, my partner said, "That smoky smell is amazing," and my expectations shot up before I even took a bite. The portion was generous, and the broth was spicy yet deepened by the rich flavor of the gochujang bulgogi, giving it a totally different charm from a regular jjambbong. The noodles and broth were well seasoned together rather than tasting separate, so after the first bite I gave my partner a thumbs up and said, "The jjambbong here is really good" haha. If you like bold, spicy flavors, I'd recommend this one!

## Large shrimp fried rice portion and the free jjajang sauce refill

The large shrimp fried rice is ₩12,000, and the portion is massive haha. The fluffy fried rice is topped generously with shrimp and sesame seeds.

*Shrimp fried rice, large (₩12,000)*

![Jjajang sauce served alongside the fried rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-godeok-gobul-jjamppong-shrimp-fried-rice/pyeongtaek-godeok-gobul-jjamppong-shrimp-fried-rice-12-1uwtd-900.webp)

![Shrimp fried rice mixed with jjajang sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-godeok-gobul-jjamppong-shrimp-fried-rice/pyeongtaek-godeok-gobul-jjamppong-shrimp-fried-rice-13-1g40y-966.webp)

Eaten together with the jjajang (black bean) sauce, it's a flavor that people of all ages would enjoy! My partner ate about half and wanted more sauce, so we asked for a refill — the owner checked if it wasn't enough and then gave us a generous refill! Such a kind owner, I could cry haha.

## Why the small sweet and sour pork (15,000 won) was the top pick

The small sweet and sour pork at Jangsu Jjambbong Jeonmunjeom is ₩15,000 and comes with a side of cabbage salad. The sauce came already drizzled on top!

![Small sweet and sour pork served with cabbage salad](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-godeok-gobul-jjamppong-shrimp-fried-rice/pyeongtaek-godeok-gobul-jjamppong-shrimp-fried-rice-14-1un1e-900.webp)
*Sweet and sour pork, small (₩15,000)*

Even with the sauce poured on, it stayed crispy and chewy. Every dish nailed the basics, but for me, the sweet and sour pork was my top pick! It's the old-style version, and I wondered if the batter would be too thin or the sauce too little, but it was just right — clean and sweet, and really delicious.

*A full, satisfying spread*

The two of us ate until we were completely full haha.

On the way out, there was even a coffee machine, but we were too full and passed on it!
