## In short

At Hwangbuja Twigim (황부자튀김) in Sokcho Central Market, I took away nude shrimp fritters, red snow crab meat fritters, and squid fritters. None of the three had thick batter, and they retained a crisp texture even when I ate them after some time.

## Where is Hwangbuja Twigim, and where can I park?

Hwangbuja Twigim is in Units 26 and 27 of Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market. Its bright sign stood out in the market alley, and when I visited, the shop was busy with customers waiting for takeout.

## What can you choose besides fried snacks?

The menu included king prawn fritters, nude shrimp fritters, red snow crab meat fritters, squid fritters, baby crab, seed shrimp gangjeong (sweet crispy shrimp), and several types of squid sundae (stuffed squid). There were also kimchi pancakes, potato pancakes, buckwheat pancakes, sorghum bukkumi (filled pan-fried rice cakes), gim-mari (seaweed-wrapped glass noodle fritters), and chili pepper and perilla leaf fritters, along with assorted-fritter and half-and-half sets.

The shop also had signs introducing its television appearances.

The display case was neatly arranged with squid fritters, king prawn fritters, and red crab meat fritters. Pancakes and sundae were displayed alongside the fried snacks, and there was a nutty aroma of frying oil.

There were tables inside where customers could sit and eat. I took my order away, but you could also eat it there while it is hot.

## How are the fried snacks packed for takeout?

I ordered nude shrimp fritters, red snow crab meat fritters, and squid fritters. They were placed in Hwangbuja Twigim's yellow bag, which made them easy to carry without getting jostled.

## What were the textures of the shrimp, red crab, and squid fritters?

### Were the nude shrimp fritters easy to eat?

The nude shrimp fritters were easy to eat because the shrimp had been peeled. Their golden fried batter was not thick.

When I took a bite, the shrimp was plump and springy. The crisp, nutty batter went well with its texture.

### What were the red snow crab meat fritters like?

The red snow crab meat fritters were long, making them easy to pick up one by one. They were filled with red snow crab meat, with a mild, nutty flavor that came through as I chewed.

### Were the squid fritters chewy?

The squid fritters were generously sized. The squid was tender rather than chewy, so it was pleasant with the crisp batter.

## Were they still crisp after takeout?

I was pleased that they still had a crisp texture even after some time. I also liked that the batter was not thick overall. They made a good takeout snack or late-night bite during a trip to Sokcho.
