## In short

Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon is a Chinese and dim sum restaurant on the first floor of the Lemeilleur building at the entrance to Pimatgol alley in Jongno, Seoul. The writer ordered lazi ji (spicy Sichuan chicken, ₩18,800) and beef fried rice (₩10,500), alternating between the numbing, fiery chicken and the fried rice whose glossy, oil-coated grains cooled down the heat. If you love spicy Chinese food, pairing lazi ji with fried rice is highly recommended.

I visited Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon (청화우육도삭면), known as a dim sum spot in Gwanghwamun.

Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon, a well-known Jongno restaurant, sits right in the center of Gwanghwamun. It uses both the first and second floors, so you can get a seat even during lunch rush.

It's a short walk from Gwanghwamun Kyobo Bookstore, right at the entrance to Pimatgol alley. It's on the first floor of the Lemeilleur building, so free building parking is available — you get 2 hours free if you dine at the restaurant.

There's so much to do nearby that it's perfect for a date course. Cheonghwa Uyuk Dosakmyeon doesn't take reservations, but the turnover is quick enough that you can eat right away.

## How do the lazi ji and beef fried rice taste?

Our order of lazi ji and beef fried rice arrived. Side dishes were pickled radish (jjajangmyeon-style zha cai) and peanuts.

Lazi ji is a spicy Sichuan dish of chicken stir-fried with chili peppers.

Dried chilies and Sichuan peppercorns give it that tingling, numbing kick. It's the ultimate chicken dish for beer.

It's like fried chicken with a mildly spicy edge, and it's so good. Surprisingly, it suits Korean tastes perfectly too.

![Beef fried rice ordered alongside the lazi ji](https://img.superchart.com/images/jongno-chinese-lazi-beef-fried-rice/jongno-chinese-lazi-beef-fried-rice-09-nirhk-900.webp)

Since lazi ji is spicy, I ordered beef fried rice to go with it.

Each grain of rice is coated evenly, which makes it delicious, and it's piled high with beef too.

Mix it together, load up a spoonful with beef, and it's incredibly good.

Eating it alongside the lazi ji chicken mellows out the spiciness.

It's also great topped with zha cai, a must-have side with Chinese food.

Both the first and second floors are filled with tables and chairs, so the space is bigger than it looks.
