## In short

Yongchon Gogi-jip is a charcoal-grilled pork galbi restaurant in Toseong-myeon, Goseong, Gangwon, a short drive from the Sokcho tollgate. On a weekday lunch with two elementary-school daughters, the writer ordered three servings of seasoned pork galbi (18,000 won per person) with a complimentary steamed egg and finished with ugeoji doenjang jjigae (napa cabbage soybean paste stew) for 3,000 won, and wrapping the galbi in pa-jeori (seasoned scallion salad) made the best bite of the meal. Yongchon Gogi-jip fills every table just after noon even on weekdays, so arriving a little early is worth it.

## Yongchon Gogi-jip in Goseong, right off the Sokcho tollgate

Yongchon Gogi-jip is a charcoal-grilled pork galbi (marinated pork ribs) restaurant not far from the Sokcho tollgate exit, in Toseong-myeon, Goseong-gun, Gangwon. As a working mom hating to see summer end, I headed out to see Gangwon's blue sea in the last days of August. My kids' short summer vacation felt way too short, so I put in a field-trip request for one Friday and picked a Gangwon trip instead.

Bottom line first: it was so, so good! Since even Mount Geumgang comes after a good meal, we kicked off our Gangwon trip with lunch at Yongchon Gogi-jip, a spot locals recommend right after you exit the Sokcho tollgate.

Like a great launch signal for the trip, the meat was superb — my two daughters and I cleaned every last bite. This Goseong pork galbi spot was a choice with zero regrets.

Running a simple, high-impact menu like this basically says: we're confident in the food.

Even without a flashy spread of side dishes, Yongchon Gogi-jip in Goseong, near Sokcho, is the kind of place you crave when you just want good pork galbi. Even on a weekday lunch, it was really busy.

## Three servings of seasoned pork galbi and complimentary steamed egg

We ordered three servings of seasoned pork galbi, which the kids love, and laid it straight on the charcoal grill. Korean charcoal grilling really is unbeatable. Just as the sizzling, browning smell started making us all hungry, the complimentary steamed egg (gyeranjjim) arrived.

Such a fluffy, delicious steamed egg! Nice touch, Yongchon Gogi-jip, giving it out for free. While the seasoned pork galbi was still grilling, the kids nibbled on rice with the egg custard, and by then the galbi was getting perfectly caramelized on the hot charcoal.

The hand-butchered seasoned pork galbi browning beautifully — this Goseong pork galbi restaurant near Sokcho tollgate, close to the Kensington area, clearly draws even more customers because of the location.

Perfectly cooked! Dig in, girls! Whether it was because I grilled it well or because Yongchon Gogi-jip's pork galbi is just that good, my two daughters ate without saying a word — just eating.

Mom's turn to try it! Time to check if it lives up to its reputation as Goseong's best pork galbi spot — done! The seasoning wasn't too sweet or too salty, and the meat quality was so good there was nothing worth leaving behind.

## Wrapped in pa-jeori, plus the rib bone

![Pa-jeori (scallion salad) served with the pork galbi](https://img.superchart.com/images/yongchon-gogi-gosong-pork-ribs-lunch/yongchon-gogi-gosong-pork-ribs-lunch-12-45fic-900.webp)

I really wanted to know the secret behind this pa-jeori (scallion salad) — it went so well with the pork galbi. I started out wrapping it in lettuce, but ended up just wrapping the galbi in pa-jeori alone and eating a ton of it that way.

![Pork galbi rib bone picked clean of meat](https://img.superchart.com/images/yongchon-gogi-gosong-pork-ribs-lunch/yongchon-gogi-gosong-pork-ribs-lunch-14-zce3o-900.webp)

The true flavor bomb of pork galbi — the meat clinging to the bone. I rolled it around on the charcoal grill diligently to cook it just right. I couldn't give this one up to anyone, so I gnawed on it myself. This might honestly be the tastiest part of the seasoned pork galbi.

The hand-butchered seasoned pork galbi was so good I even wrapped raw garlic into the lettuce wrap. Double thumbs up for Yongchon Gogi-jip's flavor and friendliness.

## Dessert ugeoji doenjang jjigae, ₩3,000

Dessert stew ₩3,000

Make sure to soak your leftover rice 🍚 in the savory ugeoji doenjang jjigae (napa cabbage soybean paste stew) after the pork galbi. Packed with napa cabbage, this savory, refreshing stew is a great dessert dish. Yongchon Gogi-jip, this Goseong pork galbi restaurant, really nailed its homemade flavors.

## Even weekdays fill up after noon — a waiting tip

![Interior of Yongchon Gogi-jip before noon on a weekday](https://img.superchart.com/images/yongchon-gogi-gosong-pork-ribs-lunch/yongchon-gogi-gosong-pork-ribs-lunch-17-1pzo8-900.webp)

This is the bright, clean dining hall before noon on a weekday — a great space to enjoy good meat. Once it passed 12, every table was full and some people had to wait. Glad we went a bit early!

The hand-butchered pork galbi was sweet and salty, perfectly balanced, and the complimentary steamed egg needed no further praise — a spot I'd absolutely recommend for a Gangwon trip with kids. There's a reason it's known as a local-recommended pork galbi place. If you're looking for good pork galbi in Goseong, Gangwon, Yongchon Gogi-jip 😀 is a great choice!
