It was the weekend, but my husband was busy and went to work, and I didn't want to eat alone... so I called up mom, dad, and my sibling and we all went out for lunch together haha. The problem is that deciding on a family meal spot is surprisingly tricky! Mom loves pasta and dad loves pork cutlet, but I don't have a strong preference for either.

That's when I thought of Jeongssi Hambak Baegot Branch. You can get pasta, pork cutlet, and hambak (hamburg steak) all in one place, so it's great for everyone to pick what they want. Actually, we'd visited about 1-2 years ago for my parents' wedding anniversary, and I remember even my picky-eater mom enjoyed it, so we came back this time :)

The building has several sections like Red-dong and Yellow-dong, so when entering the underground parking lot, it's much easier to find your spot if you check for Orange-dong, where Jeongssi Hambak is located.

We visited around 11:30am on a Saturday. Maybe because we went a bit early for a brunch-y feel, it was fairly quiet at first, but by the time we finished eating and left, quite a few seats had filled up. Jeongssi Hambak has a different vibe from the sleek Western restaurants you see these days.

There are old-fashioned props and furniture everywhere, giving it a strong retro feel. I was especially delighted to spot the orange water bottle right away haha

It looked exactly like something you'd see at grandma's house, which made me weirdly nostalgic. There are also window seats and baby chairs, so it seemed like a comfortable spot for anything from a date to a family meal with kids.

## Tteokbokki instead of bread before the meal

At Jeongssi Hambak Baegot Branch, instead of pre-meal bread, you get tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cakes) while you wait for your order. It's the sweet, old-style version, and one free refill is available after the initial serving. My dad and I enjoyed it a lot, but my mom and sibling said it was a bit too sweet haha. If you usually like the sweet old-school style of tteokbokki, this should suit you well.

Cooking starts right after you order, so the food takes a little time to arrive, but chatting while eating the tteokbokki made the wait feel pretty short to me.

You can grab pickles, kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi), and other side dishes, plus plates, scissors, and forks, as much as you need from the self-serve bar.

## Mozzarella cheese hambak, 14,500 won: for cheese lovers

My order was the mozzarella cheese hambak for ₩14,500. It's a soft hamburg steak piled generously with mozzarella cheese — the amount of cheese was really more than I expected. The hambak itself was soft, and the sweet sauce paired nicely with the savory cheese. It comes with a generous portion of rice too, so one plate leaves you quite full.

I also appreciated that the staff mentioned you could ask for more rice or sauce during the meal if you ran short. Since I didn't want pasta or pork cutlet, I was glad I went with the hambak haha.

## Two Baegot pastas compared: Toowoomba and shrimp tomato

My sibling ordered the Toowoomba pasta for ₩11,500, and my mom ordered the shrimp tomato pasta for ₩11,500.

The Toowoomba pasta is a cream pasta with plump shrimp, with a slight spicy kick that cuts through the richness of the cream sauce. What I liked most was how generous the sauce was — it wasn't saucy for the first few bites and then dry noodles by the end; there was enough sauce to coat everything all the way through.

The shrimp tomato pasta is a solid, classic combination of sweet-and-tangy tomato sauce with shrimp. My mom enjoyed it too, but after trying both, dad and my sibling both picked the Toowoomba pasta as their favorite. Guess there's a reason it's the signature dish haha. If you like cream pasta but don't want it too rich, I'd recommend going with the Toowoomba.

## Pork loin cutlet, 11,500 won: thick but tender

My pork-cutlet-loving dad went straight for the pork loin cutlet, ₩11,500, without hesitation. It's a chunky handmade pork cutlet served with Jeongssi Hambak's signature sauce, and the meat was quite thick. The first thing I noticed when I took a bite was — tender!

Despite the thickness, it wasn't tough or dry at all — impressively tender to chew. Given how much prices for a plate of pasta or pork cutlet have gone up lately, with pasta and pork cutlet starting at ₩11,500 and my mozzarella cheese hambak at ₩14,500, the overall value and portion size felt reasonable.

## Why four different orders worked for a family of four
