## In short

Sokcho Topgol Makguksu Main Branch is a buckwheat noodle (makguksu) restaurant near Sokcho Beach in Gangwon, a 3-minute walk from Sokcho Express Bus Terminal, where the noodles are milled and cut in house. Booked through Naver and visited at 11:40 a.m., the meal covered the signature deulmemak (perilla oil buckwheat noodles), pollack sashimi buckwheat noodles and a solo-size suyuk (boiled pork), all mild and clean rather than spicy. While searching for good places to eat on a Sokcho trip, I found a makguksu (buckwheat noodle) restaurant that looked amazing just from the photos. Here's my visit to Sokcho Topgol Makguksu (속초탑골막국수), where I had a solid meal of deulmemak, pollack sashimi buckwheat noodles, and solo suyuk :)

## Where is Sokcho Topgol Makguksu, and where do you park?

Sokcho Topgol Makguksu is right near Sokcho Beach, about a 3-minute walk from Sokcho Express Bus Terminal. It's a great spot for lunch right after arriving in Sokcho, and works well as part of a route that continues into a walk along Sokcho Beach. From the ticket booth of the Sokcho Eye Ferris Wheel, facing the sea, head along the road to your left — it's about a 1-minute walk from there.

If you're driving, Sokcho Beach Public Parking Lots 1, 2, and 3 are a 1–2 minute walk from the restaurant, and they provide a discount parking ticket good for up to 2 hours.

## What Sokcho Topgol Makguksu looks like inside and out

Here's the exterior of Sokcho Topgol Makguksu. It's not flashy, which gives it a cozy feel — and it's not a franchise, just this one location in Sokcho, but it's already well known as a top makguksu spot in the area.

Even though I visited early, around 11:40 a.m., the inside was already filling up with customers. You can book through Naver Reservations daily from 10 a.m. in one-hour slots, so I'd recommend reserving ahead — we did too! Also, this restaurant is pet-friendly, though pets need to be carried in a closed cage or covered stroller before entering, just so you know.

The restroom inside was clean and well-maintained too, which was convenient.

## Sokcho Topgol Makguksu menu and the Naver review event

Among the many menu items, the signature is the very first one on the list: deulmemak, short for perilla oil buckwheat noodles. It's even trademark-registered with the Korean Intellectual Property Office, so it's something you can only get here — highly recommend! Besides the signature deulmemak, there's also pollack sashimi buckwheat noodles and perilla seed buckwheat noodles, with options to add noodles, order a larger portion, or add extra pollack sashimi. There are also plenty of healthy buckwheat dishes like buckwheat perilla kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), buckwheat dumpling soup, buckwheat dumplings, and buckwheat pancakes, plus a separate kids' set menu, making it a good spot for families. There's also potato pancake, suyuk, and acorn jelly to pair with your meal — so many good options it was hard to choose!

![Trademark registration certificate for deulmemak on display](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk-08-15yum-899.webp)

You can even see the trademark registration certificate for deulmemak on display, which built up my anticipation even more.

There was also a good drink selection — beer, soju, makgeolli, soda, sikhye (sweet rice drink), and more. Corkage is free too!

They also run a Naver receipt review event that gives you 2 buckwheat dumplings, which makes a nice side to add on haha.

## What does the signature deulmemak taste like?

![Table spread of deulmemak, pollack sashimi buckwheat noodles, and solo suyuk](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk-10-4qg65-900.webp)

I ordered the signature deulmemak along with the pollack sashimi buckwheat noodles and solo suyuk — let me show you each one below.

![Deulmemak perilla oil buckwheat noodles before mixing](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk-11-scflg-900.webp)

The first dish I tried, of course, was deulmemak. You need to mix it thoroughly all the way to the bottom to really bring out the rich perilla oil aroma.

The buckwheat noodles at Sokcho Topgol Makguksu are self-made in-house, using Bongpyeong buckwheat flour mixed with squid ink and Ganoderma (reishi mushroom). You can tell they take real pride in their noodles — this was clearly different from the noodles I usually eat. They were soft and broke apart easily when bitten, and the flavor was mild, clean, and not overpowering at all, so it was easy to eat without feeling weighed down.

![A chopstick-full of mixed deulmemak](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk-13-bml9e-900.webp)

Because the flavor is so clean, it pairs well with the side dishes too. The crunchy summer radish greens went especially well with it. I liked the pure flavor so much that I ate it plain from start to finish without adding anything, but apparently it's also nice to pour in a little dongchimi (radish water kimchi) broth near the end when there are just a few noodles left!

![Side dishes of radish greens kimchi and radish salad](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk-14-1w8q7-900.webp)

By the way, the side dishes served are summer radish greens kimchi and radish salad.

## Is the pollack sashimi buckwheat makguksu spicy?

Next up was the pollack sashimi buckwheat noodles. It's buckwheat noodles topped with seasoned sauce and pollack sashimi. I'd recommend this to anyone who likes hoe-naengmyeon (raw fish cold noodles) or spicy mixed noodle dishes!

![Fruit dongchimi served alongside the makguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk-16-tfcpf-900.webp)

Ordering makguksu comes with a refreshing dongchimi on the side!

![Pollack sashimi buckwheat noodles with dongchimi poured in](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk-17-cgcod-900.webp)

You mix in a little of the fruit dongchimi with the pollack sashimi buckwheat noodles first. Just like the deulmemak wasn't overpowering, this dish's seasoning was also clean and mild, so it was easy to eat without any pressure. Even people who can't handle spicy food should be totally fine with this seasoning!

![A chewy piece of pollack sashimi](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk-19-1866h-689.webp)

The pollack sashimi was really chewy and delicious. It paired nicely with the suyuk we also ordered, and it still tasted great even when I poured in all the leftover dongchimi at the end.

![Perilla oil, mustard, vinegar, and sugar on the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk-20-daqd7-774.webp)

There's also perilla oil, mustard, vinegar, and sugar on the table if you want to adjust the flavor to your taste!

![Solo suyuk served with side dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk-21-g6wvi-900.webp)

## How much comes with the solo suyuk (boiled pork)?

Next, the solo suyuk we ordered as a side. Even though it's called "solo" suyuk, the portion was good for two people to share as a side dish. I liked that they offer this small size instead of only the large one. It came with peppers, sliced garlic, seasoned dried radish, and seasoned pollack sashimi on the side, plus salted shrimp and ssamjang (dipping sauce) served separately.

![A bite of suyuk topped with seasoned pollack sashimi and dried radish](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk/sokcho-tapgol-makguksu-terminal-walk-22-1bq3k-899.webp)

Eating the pollack sashimi, dried radish, pepper, and salted shrimp all together in one bite was absolutely delicious :) And as shown above, it also paired really well with the makguksu.

## Buckwheat cookies and raw buckwheat noodles sold to take home

You can really tell this place is serious about buckwheat — near the register, they also sell cute buckwheat cookies and packaged buckwheat noodles separately. They'd make a nice gift or souvenir.

There was also a receipt photo booth near the entrance, so I took a commemorative photo on the way out haha. It was one more thing that made the Sokcho trip more fun!

## Is Sokcho Topgol Makguksu worth a visit?

At Sokcho Topgol Makguksu, a top makguksu spot in Sokcho, I had a clean and delicious meal starting with the signature perilla oil buckwheat noodles, followed by the pollack sashimi buckwheat noodles and solo suyuk. It's within walking distance of the bus terminal and close to the Sokcho Beach public parking lots, so I'd recommend it as a first meal in Sokcho before heading out for a walk along the beach :)
