# Hwangnidang-gil dessert shop with oversized fruit mochi: Tareudang

Tareudang is a fruit mochi and tart takeout shop just off the main street of Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju. Returning right as the weekend break time ended, we bought three mochi — peach yogurt, mango yogurt and pineapple — and ate them as dessert back at our lodging, and having tried fruit mochi in plenty of other shops, Tareudang's were overwhelmingly big. If more sightseeing is on your schedule, a cooler bag from Tareudang is essential.

My friend and I took a weekend trip to Gyeongju, and I want to introduce a fruit mochi dessert spot that's been getting hot on Hwangnidang-gil lately — Tareudang. I've been obsessed with fruit mochi lately (there's barely one I haven't tried), and my love for it didn't stop even in Gyeongju haha. Here's my full review of Tareudang, known for its unusually large, chewy mochi.

## Where is Tareudang in Gyeongju, and where do you park?

Tareudang is at 49 Sajeong-ro, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, in Hwangnidang-gil. It's open Monday through Sunday from 11:00 to 19:00, though it may close early if ingredients sell out.

Tareudang sits just inside the main street of Hwangnidang-gil, so it was easy to get to. There are so many dessert shops on Hwangnidang-gil, but this trendy Tareudang was the one that pulled me in the most (also because I'm already obsessed with fruit mochi haha). When we arrived, they were still on break time until 4:30, so we browsed a nearby gift shop and came back on time — and suddenly there was a line (weekends definitely mean waiting, it seems).

Tareudang is a takeout-only shop with fast turnover, so we didn't wait too long. It's also known as a great stop before or after a walk around Cheomseongdae. In particular, Tareudang makes and sells everything fresh the same day, so you can really taste the seasonal fruit.

## Ordering peach yogurt, mango yogurt and pineapple mochi

We bought three kinds at Tareudang: peach yogurt, mango yogurt, and pineapple. Buy four or more mochi and you get ₩500 off each piece.

We're the type who plan exactly what to buy during break time (P personalities?) haha — but apparently we both turn into J's when it comes to food haha. We debated buying four, but since each one is huge and we had a lot more food planned, we only bought as much as we could actually eat.

There's seating right next to the shop, so it's a nice spot to sit and eat right after you buy if you want.

Tareudang originally built its name on tarts, but these days it seems to be even more famous for its fruit mochi. They also offer nice gift packaging, so a lot of people apparently pick it up as a Gyeongju travel gift.

## How big do Tareudang's fruit mochi taste and look at the lodging?

We ate Tareudang's fruit mochi as dessert once we got back to our lodging. If you still have plans afterward, I'd definitely recommend buying the cooler bag.

Wow… the size is seriously massive. Each Tareudang fruit mochi has real heft, both in size and weight. I've eaten fruit mochi at a lot of different places, and honestly, Tareudang's size was overwhelming by comparison.

Even the cross-section looks almost violently good — the yogurt and fruit were packed in generously. Since everything is made and sold the same day, the fruit was fresh and the mochi skin was wonderfully chewy, genuinely delicious ㅠ^ㅠ. The yogurt inside especially didn't overpower anything, so it paired really well with the fruit. If you're planning to visit Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju, you have to try Tareudang's fruit mochi!!
