## A vibe like you've flown to Japan

Walking in, the whole place had such a strong Japanese atmosphere that even though I was eating near Mapo Station, it really felt like I'd taken a trip to Japan!

The little props and interior details that capture that distinct Japanese feel really make you feel like you're there for proper Japanese gyukatsu. Great for a date, great for a family dinner, and there are counter seats on one side too, so it looks perfect for eating solo.

## What we ordered

Isn't the tiny door detail on the menu just so cute haha. That day we ordered the gyukatsu set — two sirloin gyukatsu plus a drink for ₩47,000.

At first we debated splitting the niku mabushi set, but in the end we went full-on with the gyukatsu set so we could have more of the classic dish (greed level: legendary).

## There's even a kids' menu for family dinners

There's also a separate kids' menu! Since gyukatsu comes as a full set meal, it can be a bit much for a kid with a smaller appetite, so having a kids' menu on the side makes it much easier to eat out here as a family.

Especially for families looking for somewhere to eat near Mapo Station or Gongdeok Station, having a kids' menu is a nice bonus.

## The sirloin gyukatsu set, one brazier for two

When our order arrived, everything was laid out generously — the gyukatsu, rice, side dishes, all of it — and I swear I was already drooling. Each table gets its own brazier (one per two people), so we could grill the gyukatsu bite by bite to the perfect size, which I loved.

### What came with it

The spread was really thoughtful — crunchy pickled radish to wake up the palate, a salad to go with the gyukatsu, and of course fresh wasabi! Plus an onsen egg on the side — okay, this really is Japan haha.

And the rice wasn't just plain steamed rice — it came out as a hot pot rice (everyone clap). The grains were moist and fluffy, seriously amazing. At the end, you can pour broth over the pot rice to enjoy it as ochazuke, so be careful not to scrape the pot clean too early!

## Why I'd call this a Mapo gyukatsu spot worth knowing

You grill it yourself on a personal brazier to your preferred doneness, and the texture of the sirloin was insane. I've had gyukatsu at quite a few places, and sirloin usually has more chew than the softer tenderloin, right? But this sirloin had almost no dryness or toughness when I bit into it — inside it stayed moist and packed with juice...

Eating it fresh off the grill especially, the crispy breading outside and the tender sirloin inside came together perfectly. Gyukatsu is a dish where texture can vary a lot depending on the meat and how it's grilled, but grilling it right there and eating it immediately made all the difference — genuinely delicious.

Oh right, there's also pollock roe, which came with a hint of sesame oil aroma and a nice salty kick! Whether you put it on the warm pot rice or on top of the gyukatsu, that little pop of texture is insane.

Grilling the gyukatsu until golden, then topping it with gamtae (seasoned seaweed) and pollock roe — that's basically paradise right there.

## Finishing the meal with ochazuke

When I first walked in, I saw something laid out like a buffet and thought, wait, is this a buffet?? Turns out it was a broth bar haha. After finishing your rice, you can choose a broth at the end to enjoy it like ochazuke — and there are several broth options to pick from.

I went with the katsuobushi (dried bonito) broth! It had that distinct umami richness, and honestly it felt like eating soup with rice mixed in. I always finish tonkatsu the same way, with rice mixed into soup, so this was completely my thing...
