## In short

Jju Baksa Magok Branch is a hot plate webfoot octopus (jjukkumi) restaurant on the first floor of the Daebang DMC City 2 officetel, a 3-minute walk from Exit 8 of Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station in Gangseo, Seoul. Arriving right at opening on a weekend meant no wait, and the order was the 38,000 won drink set with the meat swapped to jjuusam (beef brisket), medium spice, crab egg custard and zero cola, plus an extra 9,000 won portion of beef brisket cooked in the leftover sauce. The set is generous enough at Jju Baksa Magok Branch to suit both a group dinner and a date.

I went right at weekend opening so there was no wait for me, but it seems like there's a line during regular meal hours.

The set menus and lunch special seem like the best value here. And since it's open until 1 AM, there are also drinking-snack items like octopus ramyeon and fish cake soup for people coming in for a second or third round, haha.

That day, we ordered the generously composed drink set and changed the meat to jjuusam (beef brisket). For spice we went medium — a bit spicier than Shin Ramyun — with zero-sugar cola to drink, and the service menu item we chose was the moist crab egg custard! That comes to ₩38,000.

Corn butter comes out free.

This is the crab egg custard we got as our service item. It reminded me of a crab omelet I once had at a fusion Japanese restaurant. So fluffy!

## Hot plate jjuusam cooked at the table by the staff

🐙 Here's the hot plate jjuusam. Fresh rolled beef brisket comes out piled up generously like a mountain.

There were cooking instructions written out, but a staff member actually cooked it for us bb — so convenient, haha.

![Cooking instructions posted on the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/jjubaksa-magok-weekend-opening-jjuusam/jjubaksa-magok-weekend-opening-jjuusam-14-16qqm-900.webp)

Nice touch adding bean sprouts too bb

Sizzling away on the hot plate with the octopus, crunchy bean sprouts, and rice cake, the rich sweet-and-spicy sauce soaks perfectly into everything. The medium spice level was a pleasantly tingling kind of spicy, pairing perfectly with the rich, savory beef brisket.

### Self-made rice balls and ssam wraps at Jju Baksa

The self-made rice ball included in the set is loaded with seaweed flakes and finely chopped pickled radish, giving it an appealing savory, crunchy texture.

![Round self-made rice ball formed by hand](https://img.superchart.com/images/jjubaksa-magok-weekend-opening-jjuusam/jjubaksa-magok-weekend-opening-jjuusam-19-rkd23-900.webp)

Placing the jjuusam on a fragrant perilla leaf, then topping it with rice ball and popping flying fish roe for a ssam (wrap), fills your mouth with layers of flavor 🤍

Right as the spice starts kicking in, a spoonful of the soft crab egg custard we chose as our service dish cools everything down comfortingly. Finishing it off with the fizzy zero-sugar cola made for a flawless meal. The portion was just right, but we still ended up adding extra beef brisket into the leftover sauce.

Extra beef brisket serving — pretty huge portion, right?

They said they'd add more sauce if we ran out, but ours was just the right amount.

## Final verdict: who will enjoy Jju Baksa Magok Branch?

I'd recommend this to anyone near Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station looking for a filling, good-value hot plate octopus meal. The set menus are so generously composed that they work great for a solid meal, a drinking session with friends, or even a date-night course.
