## In short

Geumnyeong Gomtang Yeoksam Branch is a 1++ Korean beef gomtang (beef bone soup) restaurant on Bongeunsa-ro 4-gil near Sinnonhyeon Station in Gangnam, Seoul. The writer ate solo, finishing a clear broth piled with minari (water dropwort) and beef, paired with self-serve banchan like pollock salad and pickles, then went back for a second plate of chili because the ssamjang was so good. Friendly service from the owner made it an easy solo meal worth repeating whenever a warm bowl is needed in Gangnam.

I had an appointment in Gangnam and ended up craving warm broth, so I stopped by Geumnyeong Gomtang. I love gomtang (Korean beef bone soup) and have been to quite a few famous spots, but this wasn't just one of the better ones — it was honestly the tastiest gomtang I've had.

The clear, light broth came loaded with minari (water dropwort) and generous amounts of 1++ Korean beef, and I polished off the whole bowl happily. I kept seeing solo diners come in too, so this seems like a solid pick if you're looking for a place to eat alone in Gangnam.

## The entrance and menu lineup

The entrance has this nostalgic feel that catches your eye — something familiar, something that puts you at ease. I'd always wanted to visit.

The signature menu is refreshingly simple: gomtang, rice noodles, pollock salad, and boiled pork slices. Everyone knows a place with a short menu like this is usually going to be good, haha.

## 1++ Korean beef gomtang, loaded with minari

What I had at Geumnyeong Gomtang was the gomtang piled high with minari. It arrived in a brass bowl full of clear broth, topped generously with finely chopped minari and 1++ Korean beef.

![A spoonful of clear, light gomtang broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangnam-solo-gomtang-friendly-owner/gangnam-solo-gomtang-friendly-owner-06-61563-900.webp)

I tried the broth first — it wasn't oily or heavy at all, just light and clean. But it wasn't bland either; the deep flavor from the beef lingered subtly, and I kept going back for more spoonfuls.

Eating the minari together with the broth added a fragrant note that made it much fresher than a regular gomtang. The beef was tender, not chewy at all, and went great with rice. It wasn't just a few slices either — beef kept coming throughout the meal, which was really satisfying.

## The pollock salad and banchan combo is really good

The gomtang was delicious, but I was also really into the banchan lineup. Kimchi, kkakdugi, pollock salad, pickles, and chili — everything came out looking neat and clean.

The ssamjang in particular was so good that I ate a whole plate of chili and went back for more. I was curious how they made that ssamjang — they say if the sauce is good, the food is good, right?

## A self-serve bar makes solo dining in Gangnam even easier

![The self-serve bar where diners can get more banchan](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangnam-solo-gomtang-friendly-owner/gangnam-solo-gomtang-friendly-owner-11-7nawk-900.webp)

I also liked that there was a self-serve bar where you could grab more banchan without feeling self-conscious. Taking small extra helpings of the tasty side dishes meant I could enjoy every last spoonful of rice properly. All the banchan was tidy and clean — exactly the style I like.

![A bite of gomtang with pickles piled on rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangnam-solo-gomtang-friendly-owner/gangnam-solo-gomtang-friendly-owner-12-1vvh8-900.webp)

Piling pickles on rice with the gomtang meat was delicious, and dipping chili in ssamjang between bites kept the meal from feeling monotonous. None of the banchan overpowered the gomtang's flavor — each one paired well on its own.

The restaurant also had an atmosphere that wasn't awkward for eating alone. In fact, a lot of solo diners came in and had a bowl of gomtang while I was there. Food comes out fairly quickly too, and since it's a single-bowl menu, it works well for solo dining or a quick office lunch in Gangnam. I ate alone and it felt comfortable.

## The food was great, but the owner was really kind

![The restaurant scene, memorable for its friendly service](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangnam-solo-gomtang-friendly-owner/gangnam-solo-gomtang-friendly-owner-14-188t1-900.webp)

What stuck with me most at Geumnyeong Gomtang was the owner. The service was so friendly that I felt comfortable from the moment I walked in until I finished eating and left. Taste matters at a restaurant, but it's these small touches of service that make you want to come back. Geumnyeong Gomtang delivered on both taste and kindness.

![An emptied bowl of minari gomtang](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangnam-solo-gomtang-friendly-owner/gangnam-solo-gomtang-friendly-owner-15-hqh86-900.webp)

These days I often crave a clean, light gomtang over a heavy, rich broth, and with the minari fragrance added, my stomach didn't feel weighed down afterward. Above all, a gomtang generously loaded with 1++ Korean beef plus tasty banchan made for a proper, satisfying meal.

If you're looking for a place to eat in Gangnam, or need a warm meal you can enjoy comfortably on your own, Geumnyeong Gomtang with its kind owner and delicious food is worth a try. Next time I'm nearby, I'll probably stop in again for another bowl of that minari-loaded gomtang.

A place I want to visit again! Good for going with a friend, but just as comfortable eating alone — I found a really delicious spot^^
