## In short

Anok Hongdae is a Korean restaurant set in a hanok on Hongik-ro in Mapo, Seoul, serving clear-broth gomtang (beef bone soup) and Pyongyang naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles). On a weeknight date after work, the visit covered clear gomtang at 13,000 won, Pyongyang naengmyeon (mul) at 14,000 won and steamed pork tail jjim at 27,000 won, each broth tasted plain before any dadagi (chili paste) or salt went in. The best pairing at Anok was alternating the mild gomtang with the richly seasoned pork tail jjim.

Today I'm introducing a place where you can taste deep broth in a quiet, refined hanok (traditional Korean house) space — Hongdae's Pyongyang naengmyeon and gomtang spot, 'Anok Hongdae'!

## Is the Anok hanok space good for family introductions or small work dinners?

The Anok Hongdae space has a quiet, refined hanok atmosphere. With soft lighting and a clean interior, it seemed perfect for bringing elders along, or for family meetings or small work dinners!

It's low in noise and the tables aren't cramped together, so it was really the optimal spot for having a calm conversation over a meal haha

## Anok Hongdae menu: dishes that feed three to four people

Besides the single-bowl meals, there are also dishes made for sharing when 3–4 people visit — the donbok platter (45,000 won), hanwoo bulgogi hot pot (64,000 won), on-jeyuk (steamed pork slices, 24,000 won), and golden-brown potato pancake (15,000 won) or kimchi pancake (16,000 won). It felt like a place that nailed both value and quality.

## Best side dish at Anok: pickled gungchae lettuce stems

Here are the side dishes! The pickled gungchae (aster stem) in the bottom right was really delicious~!

## Taste Anok's clear gomtang before you season it

![Anok's clear gomtang topped with meat garnish](https://img.superchart.com/images/anok-hongdae-clear-gomtang-pig-tail/anok-hongdae-clear-gomtang-pig-tail-11-1as8m-900.webp)

The heart of Anok is the clear broth the owner painstakingly simmers by hand! I heard this same clear broth goes into the gomtang and also forms the base for the Pyongyang naengmyeon. The gomtang broth is mild yet bursts with deep umami. Eating it with rice and the soft meat garnish made me smile — it had zero gamey smell, so I really felt the mark of a true Hongdae gukbap (soup with rice) spot. Haha

💡Tip💡 Don't go heavy on the dadagi (chili paste) or salt at first — taste the clear broth's own clean flavor first!

## Anok's Pyongyang naengmyeon: faint beef aroma under a mild broth

And the Pyongyang naengmyeon that came out next exceeded expectations too! Beneath the mild, understated flavor was a subtly savory, fragrant hint of the clear broth — really charming. It had such a refined taste that I think it'd be great for bringing elders or foreign visitors to as a Hongdae naengmyeon spot~!

## Anok's pork tail jjim tastes like the fatty skin of fire-grilled jokbal

This was my first time trying pork tail jjim (steamed pork tail), and I was a bit put off by the look at first, but once I tried it, it was so good?! It tasted like the fatty part of fire-grilled jokbal (pig's feet)!

The other dishes were mild, but this one was punchy, so alternating between them was so good! Highly recommend this as a side dish! Hahaha

## Is Anok Hongdae worth a second visit?

There are plenty of bars near Hongdae, but it's not easy to find a place that properly serves quiet, tidy food, and Anok Hongdae was a genuine standout with the full package — taste, atmosphere, and kindness. Whenever I want a clean, deep bowl of soup without any burden on my stomach, or want to bring precious elders or family for a quiet, tidy meal, I think I'll come back here without hesitation!
