## In short

Samcheok Bomulseom is an ocean-view dining bar a 5-minute walk from Sol Beach Samcheok in Gangwon. I ordered the lunch omakase for three and especially loved the abalone fried rice, plus a complimentary steamed seafood platter. Verdict: a lovely place for a seasonal meal overlooking the sea.

This is what Bomulseom looks like, and there is limited parking out front. Across from it, the sea opens right up before you 🌊 🤍 I also loved how close it is to Sol Beach Samcheok on foot.

## White-and-wood interior and ordering lunch omakase

I arrived right when they opened! The white-and-wood interior is so neat, and the plants placed around the room are really pretty too. What I truly loved was being able to eat while looking out at the sea 👍🏻

It is an omakase place, but alongside the omakase menu they also sell individual dishes such as abalone porridge, butadon (Japanese pork rice bowl), and seafood aquarium ramen. It was nice that they had lots of drinks too—sake, wine, soju, and beer.

We ordered the Bomulseom lunch omakase for three, soft drinks, and two bottles of Saero.

For reference, the omakase uses carefully selected ingredients each day to serve seasonal food, and I heard the lineup changes a little with the seasons. Corkage is also available at ₩20,000 per table, with a maximum of one bottle.

## The lineup, from soy-marinated crab to abalone fried rice

There is such a variety, as you would expect from omakase, right? Let me introduce everything in the order it came out 🤤 🤍

![Varied omakase dishes laid out on the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/samcheok-oceanview-omakase-treasure-island/samcheok-oceanview-omakase-treasure-island-08-9eqq4-900.webp)

### First: soy-marinated raw crab

First came ganjang gejang (soy-marinated raw crab). The crab was packed with meat, and mixed with rice, it was absolutely delicious. It was perfect for waking up the appetite and had no fishy smell.

Mixing rice into the crab shell is heavenly, right? It is literally the ultimate rice thief. They said they would give us more rice anytime if we ran out, so ask without feeling shy!

### Second: soybean paste stew

Second was doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew). I liked that a stew was included too. It felt like they used genuinely good soybean paste. The broth was so rich, with seasoning that was just right for mixing into rice.

### Third: crisp outside, tender inside kimchi pancake

Third was one of my favorites, kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake). It was really crisp on the outside and moist inside. A crisp-outside, tender-inside kimchi pancake—this one gets my approval too!

### Fourth: boiled pork and Korean-made kimchi

Fourth was suyuk (boiled pork). The pork had no off smell, and it was thick-cut yet tender—just the best. And the kimchi!! It is Korean-made kimchi prepared fresh that day. Some people avoid kimchi because they think it is Chinese-made, but this is Korean-made, so please, please eat it with the suyuk. So delicious 🤤

### Fifth: tofu kimchi and spicy stir-fried pork

Fifth came tofu kimchi and jeyuk bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork). Try putting the jeyuk on the tofu kimchi. The combination is better and tastier than you might expect. They said this was seafood-focused omakase, yet the meat came out this well too!

### My favorite: abalone fried rice

Sixth was abalone fried rice. Personally, this was my favorite and the most delicious dish 🤍

![Abalone fried rice from the omakase menu](https://img.superchart.com/images/samcheok-oceanview-omakase-treasure-island/samcheok-oceanview-omakase-treasure-island-19-b2zbn-900.webp)

![Abalone fried rice with shrimp and octopus](https://img.superchart.com/images/samcheok-oceanview-omakase-treasure-island/samcheok-oceanview-omakase-treasure-island-20-1rbzx-900.webp)

The rice had plump shrimp and pieces of octopus in it too, so the texture was great and it tasted wonderful! And why was the abalone dipped in geu-jeot so delicious? 🫢 Geu-jeot is salted fermented abalone innards.

## Finishing with complimentary steamed seafood

The six-course omakase lineup was complete—soy-marinated crab, soybean paste stew, kimchi pancake, boiled pork, tofu kimchi with spicy stir-fried pork, and abalone fried rice. Then we received steamed seafood as a complimentary dish.

![Complimentary steamed seafood](https://img.superchart.com/images/samcheok-oceanview-omakase-treasure-island/samcheok-oceanview-omakase-treasure-island-21-2f9ge-900.webp)

Since it was complimentary, I thought they might give us only a little taste? But it arrived like a main dish, and I was touched.

![Steamed seafood in spicy sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/samcheok-oceanview-omakase-treasure-island/samcheok-oceanview-omakase-treasure-island-23-1q2v2-900.webp)

The spicy sauce was loaded with seafood including shrimp, blue crab, and abalone, and it was completely the perfect drinking snack, haha. We finished by getting some rice and mixing it into the sauce.

If you are staying at Sol Beach Samcheok, this is a place I really want to recommend. It is a great restaurant where you can have seasonal omakase with an ocean view. Samcheok Bomulseom was so kind and delicious that I would happily return if I came back to Samcheok!
