There was one thing I really wanted to do on this Sokcho trip.

> Spread out a plate of sashimi in the hotel room and just relax with it!

So before the trip I searched hard for good Sokcho sashimi takeout spots, and one place kept coming up again and again — Hoega. It does takeout, delivery, and even dine-in, so I decided this was the one for this trip. Long story short, I was really satisfied. The mulhoe (spicy cold raw fish soup) in particular was so good I'm still thinking about it :)

## Hoega's location and parking

Hoega is located in Gyodong, Sokcho. The clean exterior and big sign made it easy to find, and even though I expected it to feel like just a takeout counter, the store itself was run pretty neatly too. Parking was easy as well — you can park in a row right in front of the K-Mart across from the store, and there's also parking space beside the building, so I could visit without any hassle.

## How much for the small mixed sashimi and mulhoe?

The menu was more varied than I expected — mixed sashimi, mulhoe, hoemuchim (spicy raw fish salad) and more. After some back and forth we ordered

> ✔ Small mixed sashimi platter (₩43,000)
> ✔ Mulhoe (₩17,000)

which came to about ₩60,000 total. After eating, we were basically thinking, "They give you this much for this price?" We were very satisfied :)

The packing was really meticulous too. You could tell they'd been careful so the sashimi and mulhoe sauce wouldn't leak, and there was zero worry about spills on the way back to the hotel. This is what makes a takeout specialist different, I thought.

## Unpacking the takeout at the hotel

As soon as we got to the room, I opened the bag. And the first impression already exceeded expectations! The portions were way more generous than expected, and we both went "wow..." It already looked delicious.

It wasn't just sashimi. They packed seaweed, lettuce wraps, sushi rice, wasabi, chojang, and various side dishes so thoroughly that it felt exactly like eating at a sashimi restaurant, even in a hotel room.

Once everything was unpacked, I was even more surprised. Honestly, I'd worried the small size might not be enough. But that worry was unnecessary. It was plenty for two people, and mixing it up with all the different sides actually made it a really filling meal. Now I get why so many reviews mentioned great value for money.

### Thickness and flavor of the sashimi

Even in the small size, there were plenty of different kinds of sashimi packed in generously. But what I liked most was the thickness! It wasn't sliced too thin — it was cut pleasantly thick, so the texture when chewing was really good.

Every bite had a chewy, nutty flavor, and there was absolutely no fishy smell.

> Wrapped in seaweed, delicious.
> Wrapped in lettuce, delicious.
> Placed on the rice they gave us, eaten like sushi, delicious.

I kept eating it in different combinations. Personally, my favorite was putting sashimi on rice with a little wasabi on top :)

## The real star of this meal: iced-broth mulhoe

After eating a good amount of sashimi, we finally got the mulhoe ready. Pouring in the broth full of shaved ice, a sweet and tangy scent rose up right away. From that moment, I already knew it was going to be good.

Honestly, the real star of this meal was the mulhoe. Without exaggerating too much,

> This was the best mulhoe I've ever had.

I already like mulhoe, but I kept being amazed as I ate. The broth was sweet and tangy with deep umami — not just a sharp, intense flavor, but one that kept making me want more. A spoonful of broth, a bite of sashimi, another spoonful of broth. That combination made me genuinely happy.

Honestly, I had considered just ordering sashimi alone, but ordering the mulhoe along with it was a great call. I would have regretted skipping it. Plus, with the generous seaweed, lettuce wraps, and sushi rice they gave us, I could enjoy it in so many ways — sashimi alone, mulhoe alone, sushi-style, wrapped in lettuce. It was the most satisfying meal I had on this whole trip.

## To sum up

This visit to Hoega had

- Takeout available
- Delivery available
- Dine-in available
- And above all, really great value for money.

Even the small mixed sashimi platter was plenty for two, and the generous basic sides made for a high level of satisfaction. I especially hope you try the mulhoe.
