I finally visited Kkankkan Jjokbal Suwan Branch, already known as a jokbal spot in the Suwan district! It's located right in the Suwan district dining alley, so it's easy to find and pretty accessible too. Whether you're driving and parking or coming by public transit, it's a convenient spot for meeting up!

I was craving good bossam and looking around when a friend recommended a clean, delicious bossam place in Suwan — turned out to be exactly this place, Kkankkan Jjokbal Suwan Branch.

Tender, soft jokbal or bossam meat paired with spicy-sweet, savory kimchi never fails. It's great for a filling dinner, and also good for a light drink after work, so I wanted to introduce it~

## Ordering charcoal-grilled bossam, starting with the basic table setting

I ordered the charcoal-grilled bossam!

![Basic table setting with lettuce, perilla leaves, and black sesame dressing salad](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwan-charcoal-bossam-family-dinner/suwan-charcoal-bossam-family-dinner-13-11q26-900.webp)

Along with fresh lettuce, perilla leaves, and peppers, a refreshing black sesame dressing salad came out too, so I started with the salad first to keep my blood sugar in check haha.

![Dried radish namul, pickled radish, ssamjang, and salted shrimp side dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwan-charcoal-bossam-family-dinner/suwan-charcoal-bossam-family-dinner-14-m98tc-900.webp)

As accompaniments, there's spicy-sweet crunchy dried radish namul and refreshingly clean pickled radish, plus ssamjang, raw garlic, chojang, and salted shrimp — all set out so you can mix to your taste, and staff bring more right away if you run low.

![Soft steamed egg](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwan-charcoal-bossam-family-dinner/suwan-charcoal-bossam-family-dinner-15-1ddy8-900.webp)

Add in the pudding-like, soft and moist steamed egg, and it softly balances out the spiciness or richness. It's mildly salty, so it works well as an appetizer and also alongside the main dish! Even better eaten together with the meat, so soft!ㅎㅎ

### The free sundubu jjigae

They give you sundubu jjigae for free, no joke...?! There's a whole block of tofu in there. That this isn't something you order but comes standard is honestly touching... The slightly spicy aroma rising up made me look forward to the taste. They even gave us a raw egg to crack in and let it boil away. Haha.

Loaded with enoki mushrooms and tofu, it gently warmed my hungry stomach before the bossam arrived. The sundubu jjigae had that not-too-intense, homemade feel, which I loved! It coats your stomach nice and soft before the main dish comes in.

## Charcoal-grilled bossam served in a brass bowl

After ordering, I waited while eating the sundubu jjigae and egg, and then the main dish, bossam, showed up! Served generously in a brass bowl, the bossam had its surface grilled golden over charcoal, giving off a subtle smoky aroma.

The ratio of meat to fat is perfect, so it melts softly in your mouth with no dryness. Sliced thick, it also has a great chew. Personally I don't love meat that's too fatty, but this Suwan district bossam spot had just the right amount.👍🏻

There was zero pork gaminess, just a lovely charcoal smoke aroma, so I tried a bite of the meat alone first — it was so soft and delicious that I understood why my friend recommended this Suwan district spot.

![A single piece of bossam meat](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwan-charcoal-bossam-family-dinner/suwan-charcoal-bossam-family-dinner-17-172zl-900.webp)

Next to the meat, round balls of seasoned bossam kimchi sprinkled with sesame seeds are served together. The combo of savory spicy kimchi and clean pork meat had me so excited...🔫

### The best wrap combo

On top of a crisp perilla leaf that releases more aroma the more you chew, the softly melting lean meat, the chewy fat, and the crunchy dried radish namul — that was personally my top pick✨

I love eating things wrapped, so putting meat with a slice of garlic and adding salted shrimp made it clean and kept me going back for more. And apparently salted shrimp helps your body absorb protein better?

The garlic chives laid under the warm bossam meat are soft and not tough, wilted just right by the heat of the meat. Picking up a piece of meat and lightly wrapping it with the chives, that subtle, fragrant chive aroma blends with the bossam so well... makes me want to eat it all over again just writing this.✅

Putting a piece of meat and garlic on a thin crisp slice of pickled radish and wrapping it cleanly, I kept eating without any heaviness. I used to not be able to handle raw garlic well, but I'm getting better at it as I approach my thirties...

## Dessert ice cream corner

On the way out after finishing my meal, I noticed there's an ice cream corner for dessert! After a slightly greasy meal of meat, it cleanly refreshed my palate with something cool and sweet, ending the meal on a happy note. Having ice cream would make it even better to visit with kids👦🏻

## Final thoughts

Beyond the excellent quality of meat in the charcoal bossam, the signature dish of this Suwan district restaurant, I had a filling meal from the initial side dishes, to the spicy-boiled sundubu jjigae, the fluffy steamed egg, and even a thoughtful dessert of ice cream. 😋

Especially the flavor of bossam eaten together with the kimchi — I'm still thinking about it as I write this. The overall menu lineup is so solid and the portions so generous that it works for a date with a partner, a drinking gathering with friends, a family meal out, or a work dinner — a restaurant everyone can enjoy without complaint. 🔥

If you're looking for a can't-miss bossam or jokbal spot in the Suwan district, or want to enjoy real charcoal smoke flavor with a well-set-out meal, I highly recommend stopping by! I'd go back 200%. 👍
