## Dinner near Balsan Station: beef intestine nakgopsae at Gungmin Nakgopsae Gangseo Branch

On evenings good for chatting over good food, I always end up craving something spicy. This time I was having dinner near Balsan Station, and after some thought about what to eat, I went to Gungmin Nakgopsae Gangseo Branch. Nakgopsae is a dish where you eat octopus (nakji), beef intestine (gopchang) and shrimp (sae) all together — the name is literally an abbreviation of the three — and it's one I already like. This time, wanting to enjoy it properly, I went with the beef intestine nakgopsae.

And the dish you can't skip at the end — I also ordered the flying fish roe fried rice. Spoiler: this is a dish you're meant to eat all the way through to the fried rice. Fishing out the ingredients from the broth and then frying rice in what's left made it feel like a truly complete meal.

## Why nakgopsae works for a group dinner near Balsan Station

There are so many restaurants around Balsan Station, plenty of places to go for dinner. Among them, a dish like nakgopsae, made for sharing, seems especially good for eating while chatting naturally. Since one pot comes packed with ingredients, it's more fun to share than everyone ordering separately.

So if you're looking for a Balsan Station group dinner spot, I thought this kind of menu could be a good option. It works well as a drinking snack, and eaten with rice it's hearty enough to count as a full meal — good for dinner either way. We ordered the beef intestine nakgopsae that day planning from the start to finish with the fried rice.

![Nakgopsae pot placed in the middle of the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/balsan-station-nakgopsae-beef-tripe-dinner/balsan-station-nakgopsae-beef-tripe-dinner-04-1xoih-900.webp)

![A table setup of nakgopsae good for sharing with a group](https://img.superchart.com/images/balsan-station-nakgopsae-beef-tripe-dinner/balsan-station-nakgopsae-beef-tripe-dinner-05-yj8w4-900.webp)

Personally, I feel like nakgopsae sits somewhere between a meal and drinking food. Eaten with rice it becomes a filling meal, and with octopus, shrimp and beef intestine in a spicy sauce, it also works great as a drinking snack. So it seemed like a solid choice for friends getting dinner together or a group meal.

Since it's a dish you share from a pot in the middle of the table, it's better for slow eating and conversation than everyone having their own separate dish. If grilled meat or hot pot feels a bit predictable when you're picking a Balsan Station group dinner spot, nakgopsae could be one more option. For people who like spicy food, it doesn't seem like a dish that splits opinions much, and being able to eat beef intestine along with octopus and shrimp was a plus.

What I liked about the beef intestine nakgopsae at Gungmin Nakgopsae Gangseo Branch was being able to enjoy several ingredients at once. The octopus was chewy, the shrimp was plump, and the beef intestine was savory — each with a different texture and flavor. And the spicy sauce tied it all together, pairing well with rice.

Best of all, the meal didn't end when the nakgopsae was finished — it flowed naturally into the flying fish roe fried rice at the end. Eat the nakgopsae first, add rice along the way, and finish with fried rice. Eating it that way felt like properly enjoying a full meal. If you like spicy food and beef intestine, the beef intestine nakgopsae will especially suit you.

## What beef intestine nakgopsae looks like as it simmers

Once the beef intestine nakgopsae arrived, I remembered nakgopsae really is a dish that stirs up your appetite just from looking at it. Octopus, shrimp and beef intestine sit in the pot, and as the sauce comes together and starts to boil, the spicy smell rises and suddenly you're hungry.

At first each ingredient stands out on its own, but as it simmers and the sauce soaks in, the whole pot deepens in color and looks more and more appetizing. Watching it bubble away makes you want to dig in right away. Nakgopsae is a dish with the added fun of simmering it warm as you eat, so it was great placed in the middle of the table to share.

## Octopus, shrimp, beef intestine: how each texture compared

I started with the octopus. Octopus can turn tough if overcooked, but this was cooked just right, keeping that signature chewy bite. It had a plump, springy chew, with the sauce soaked right in — good enough to eat on its own. The spicy, salty sauce paired really well with the octopus.

Shrimp has a different texture altogether. Where octopus is chewy, the shrimp was plump and, the more you chewed, the cleaner and lighter it tasted. Loading octopus and shrimp onto one spoonful together let me feel both textures at once — fun to eat. Even cooked in the same pot, each ingredient had its own texture, which made me want to keep picking through it.

And personally, what I was looking forward to most was the beef intestine. If you like gopchang for its distinct savory flavor, it's hard to pass up. Eaten with the sauce, the intestine's savoriness combined well with the spiciness. In particular, the richness from the beef intestine mixed into the sauce and deepened the broth's overall flavor.

It has a different charm from a nakgopsae made with just octopus and shrimp. Alternating between chewy octopus, plump shrimp and savory beef intestine, my chopsticks kept going back to the pot before I knew it. If you like beef intestine, ordering the beef intestine nakgopsae is worth considering.

## Finishing the pot with flying fish roe fried rice

And the most important menu of the night — the finale. We ordered the flying fish roe fried rice. Eating nakgopsae without the fried rice after just feels incomplete, doesn't it? Frying rice in the leftover sauce gave a whole different feel from the nakgopsae we'd just eaten.

The spicy, salty flavor of the nakgopsae sauce mixed evenly through the rice, soaking into every grain, and the flying fish roe popped as you chewed, bringing even more texture to it. Scooping up a spoonful of the fried rice, with the roe popping between the soft grains of rice, was genuinely fun.

I'd eaten quite a lot of the nakgopsae already and wasn't sure I'd have room for fried rice too, but once it arrived, somehow there was room after all. I guess the true finish for Koreans really is fried rice, haha. The sauce had soaked so well into the rice that it didn't need any extra seasoning. If you hate to see leftover nakgopsae sauce go to waste, I'd recommend ordering the flying fish roe fried rice along with it.

## Is Gungmin Nakgopsae Gangseo Branch worth it for dinner?

With so many restaurants around Balsan Station, picking one can actually be the hard part. This time I had nakgopsae for the first time in a while, and the combination of ingredients was even better than expected — finishing with the fried rice made for a satisfying meal. The savoriness of the beef intestine, the chewiness of the octopus, and the plumpness of the shrimp, all in one pot, made picking through everything genuinely fun.

More than anything, the spicy sauce paired so well with rice that I kept reaching for my spoon. And the final flying fish roe fried rice was truly special — the popping texture of the roe mixed with the nakgopsae sauce kept me eating even after I was full. If you're looking for something spicy and filling around Balsan Station, this is worth a visit. Nakgopsae is good for dinner and works well for a group too.
