## Why we chose Gupo Jjambbong in Buk-gu, Busan

Gupo Jjambbong is a Chinese restaurant on Sirang-ro in Buk-gu, Busan. I had errands to run around Gupo and started looking for something to eat for lunch.

Since I was already there, I searched for good restaurants nearby and a spicy jjambbong (spicy seafood noodle soup) photo immediately caught my eye. I'm a jjambbong lover anyway, so the moment I saw the picture I knew this was the place. Especially these days, when you crave something spicy and hot, nothing beats jjambbong, right?

### Where to park at Gupo Jjambbong

> Gupo Jjambbong Gupo Main Branch

🚘 Parking — There's a lot right next to the restaurant with room for up to 5 cars.

Arriving at the front, the standing signs with food photos caught my eye first. There were plenty of menu items besides jjambbong, so it was fun just browsing.

## Inside Gupo Jjambbong: interior and seating

![Spacious interior of Gupo Jjambbong with plenty of tables](https://img.superchart.com/images/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk-04-f8ane-900.webp)

Walking inside, the space was bigger than I expected. There were plenty of tables, and a lot of people were already eating — a sign this really is a well-known spot in Gupo.

![Long seating along the wall](https://img.superchart.com/images/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk-05-13r77-875.webp)

On one side there were long seats set up along the wall. It looked comfortable enough for solo dining, and there were also bigger tables for groups, so you could pick a seat depending on party size.

![Menu photos hung on the wall](https://img.superchart.com/images/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk-06-fy7ku-900.webp)

Food photos were also hung on the wall, with descriptions for dishes like Cheonhajeil Tang, Baskbask, and the Boyang Han-sang set — naturally caught my eye while waiting.

![Self-serve water station near the entrance](https://img.superchart.com/images/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk-07-1uqke-900.webp)

Near the entrance there was a separate self-serve water station. Nice to be able to grab water whenever you need it — felt like they'd thought through even the small details for guests.

There was also a self-serve station on one side of the restaurant. Plates, spoons and chopsticks were neatly arranged, which I liked.

![Basic banchan: danmuji, onion, chunjang](https://img.superchart.com/images/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk-09-1pcqs-900.webp)

The basic banchan came out clean — danmuji, onion, and chunjang. Can't have Chinese food without this trio, haha.

## The full table: seafood jjajang, octopus-abalone jjambbong, eggplant mandu and tangsuyuk

We ordered seafood jjajang + octopus-abalone jjambbong + eggplant mandu + tangsuyuk. That's a lot, right, haha?

![Full spread of seafood jjajang, octopus-abalone jjambbong, eggplant mandu and tangsuyuk](https://img.superchart.com/images/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk-12-e6ub0-900.webp)

Got a shot of the whole spread. Being able to enjoy several dishes at once really made it feel like a proper Gupo food spot.

![Tangsuyuk topped with vegetables and sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk-13-6za1y-900.webp)

### Tangsuyuk with wasabi: the surprise of the meal

The tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) came with crispy fried pork topped with vegetables and sauce.

![Sauce being poured over the tangsuyuk](https://img.superchart.com/images/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk-14-19rl9-1200.webp)

They poured the sauce over it right away.

![A large piece of tangsuyuk](https://img.superchart.com/images/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk-15-8bqx4-900.webp)

Picking up a piece, it was decently sized and the batter looked appetizing. But the real kick was the wasabi they gave us to top it with — that's genuinely the best part.

![Octopus-abalone jjambbong piled high with seafood](https://img.superchart.com/images/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk-16-1f95c-890.webp)

### Octopus-abalone jjambbong at Gupo Jjambbong

The octopus-abalone jjambbong was overwhelming just to look at!! Piled generously with octopus, abalone, shrimp, mussels and more. If you love a spicy seafood jjambbong, this is a dish worth watching for in Gupo.

![Whole octopus being cut into pieces](https://img.superchart.com/images/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk-17-1od09-899.webp)

The whole octopus was cut into bite-sized pieces for us right there. The octopus was big and chewy, so you could really feel that springy texture.

![Jjambbong noodles soaked in broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk-18-e3ttc-900.webp)

Underneath the seafood there was a generous amount of noodles, well soaked in the broth. Eating the spicy, refreshing broth with the noodles, I got why jjambbong is the main event here.

![Seafood jjajang with sauce clinging thickly to the noodles](https://img.superchart.com/images/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk-19-1fxg7-895.webp)

### What the seafood jjajang tastes like

The seafood jjajang had sauce clinging thickly to the noodles, glossy and appetizing just to look at. The sweet, rich jjajang sauce plus seafood made me glad we ordered this along with everything else.

![Golden fried eggplant mandu](https://img.superchart.com/images/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk-20-1k41t-871.webp)

### Eggplant mandu, the standout side order

The eggplant mandu I'd been curious about turned out to be filling stuffed between slices of eggplant and fried. Golden brown and appetizing, crispy outside with the eggplant's characteristic soft texture — a real standout.

![Eggplant mandu cut in half showing the filling](https://img.superchart.com/images/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk/gupo-jjamppong-seafood-jjajang-tangsuyuk-21-1ctgd-900.webp)

Cut in half, you can really see the filling packed between the eggplant slices. The crispy fry, the moist eggplant, and the meat filling all came together in one bite — more filling and delicious than I expected.

## Is Gupo Jjambbong worth a visit in Gupo, Busan?

From seafood jjajang to octopus-abalone jjambbong, tangsuyuk, and eggplant mandu, we tried a wide range and each dish had its own character — a hearty, satisfying meal.
