## Why pot rice for lunch in Gwangalli?

Whenever I have somewhere to be around Gwangalli, I tend to spend a suspiciously long time deciding what to eat for lunch. With so many Gwangalli restaurants around, there's plenty of heavy options like grilled meat or pasta, but sometimes I just want a clean, filling one-meal lunch. That day I was craving pot rice — easy for eating solo and just right for a midday meal — so I went looking and ended up at Solsot Gwangalli. I'm honestly a fan of pot rice in general: the savory smell of freshly cooked rice is great, and you get to enjoy nurungji (scorched rice) at the end too. Among Gwangalli restaurants, one that serves it this neatly as a full table setting caught my curiosity even more. Leaving this record for anyone looking for a comfortable solo lunch spot, or anyone who wants a proper bowl of pot rice in Gwangalli.

Solsot Gwangalli sits near Gwangalli Beach, making it an easy stop if you're looking for a lunch spot around Gwangalli. The neighborhood itself is packed with cafés and restaurants, so it's a good area to wander around before or after eating. From the street, the red signboard with the name in large letters made it easy to spot. The exterior overall felt clean and put-together, so it was easy to walk in even on a first visit — the kind of place that would catch the eye of anyone among Gwangalli restaurants looking for Korean food or pot rice at lunchtime.

## Is Solsot Gwangalli comfortable for eating alone?

Inside, Solsot Gwangalli uses wood-tone tables and chairs, giving it a warm, calm atmosphere overall. It kept the feel of a Korean pot rice restaurant without feeling like an old-fashioned place, so it was pleasant for a clean meal. Even though I visited on a weekday lunch hour, there were quite a few customers, so seats weren't overly abundant. There was a mix of solo diners and groups of two or three out for lunch — true to a Gwangalli restaurant that keeps a steady stream of customers even on weekdays.

## Pot rice menu and prices at Solsot Gwangalli

True to a pot rice specialty restaurant, Gwangalli Solsot's menu had quite a range: steak pot rice, sea bream and scallop pot rice, freshwater eel pot rice, abalone pot rice, salmon pot rice, boneless hairtail pot rice, lobster shrimp pot rice, pork and bracken pot rice, cockle pot rice, and cheese dak-galbi pot rice — a fairly wide set of options. Prices were split from the mid-₩10,000s up to the ₩20,000s depending on the menu, making it easy to pick according to taste and budget. There were also side dishes like yurinki, fried shrimp, and cheese pork cutlet, which looked good for sharing with a group. I liked that among Gwangalli restaurants, there were plenty of options here for a lunch that's filling without being too heavy.

## Freshwater eel and lobster shrimp pot rice, served as a full table

The two dishes I ordered that day were freshwater eel pot rice and lobster shrimp pot rice. Once everything was laid out, the table was more neatly arranged and generous than I expected. Around the two pot rice dishes, basic side dishes like salad and kimchi were lined up neatly, and it even came with hot water for enjoying nurungji at the end — the whole setup felt well put together. The eel pot rice in particular had glossy eel piled generously over the rice, giving it strong visual presence from the start, and the lobster shrimp pot rice was loaded with various toppings too, making for a pretty appetizing color.

### Freshwater eel pot rice finished as ochazuke

The freshwater eel pot rice had bigger pieces of eel than I expected on top, with a glossy, slightly grilled aroma that looked appetizing from the start. Eaten plain with the rice, the sweet-savory sauce paired well with the eel's rich flavor, and the flesh wasn't dry at all — soft and satisfying to chew. After eating some, I left a bit of rice and eel and poured broth over it ochazuke-style, and that turned out to be a real treat. The strong eel sauce mellowed out as it dissolved into the broth, going down warm and smooth — a perfect finish. Being able to enjoy one pot of rice two ways, plain and as ochazuke, was pretty great.

### Lobster shrimp pot rice: mix, serve, then nurungji

The lobster shrimp pot rice was eaten a bit differently from the eel version. First, the lobster shrimp, vegetables, and rice on top are all mixed together, then the entire pot of rice is scooped out separately to eat. The shrimp were plump and savory, and as the vegetables and sauce mixed evenly through the rice, it tasted richer and more full-bodied than expected. Once the rice was all scooped out, I poured broth over the nurungji left at the bottom of the pot to finish — getting to enjoy that nutty scorched rice at the end made for a fun two-in-one experience from a single dish. Compared to the eel pot rice, this one was a bit lighter and cleaner to eat.

> After finishing off one whole pot, I felt like I'd properly taken care of lunch.

## Is lunch at Solsot Gwangalli worth it?

Solsot Gwangalli was a good spot for a neat, proper lunch in Gwangalli. With so many pot rice options, it's easy to pick according to taste, and the full table setting — basic side dishes down to the broth — came together cleanly and satisfyingly. The freshwater eel pot rice I had really showcased the eel's own savory, sweet flavor, and the lobster shrimp pot rice was fun to eat, mixed first and finished with nurungji. I also liked that it didn't just end with plain rice — you could finish it off as ochazuke or with nurungji. It made sense why the place was busy even on a weekday lunch. Near Gwangalli Beach, it worked well whether solo, on a date, or for a casual lunch appointment. If you're after something hearty but clean rather than spicy for lunch, this is a Gwangalli restaurant worth stopping by once.
