## In short

Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch is a Japanese gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) restaurant on the 2nd floor of a red brick building, a 3-minute walk from Exit 1 of Seolleung Station in Gangnam, Seoul. A late weekend lunch visit meant walking straight in with no wait, and the sirloin gyukatsu grilled on a mini brazier at the table plus the rich brie cheese omurice stood out. Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch is a good pick with a partner or a friend when you want something different from the usual lunch.

## Inside Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch: the room and the solo bar seats

Once inside, oh wow, it's pretty spacious. The atmosphere was clean and orderly, which I liked. You could feel that distinct Japanese restaurant vibe, and overall it was really clean! Oh right, the floor was a bit slippery... I sat down and slid right back in my chair.

There are a lot of office workers around Seolleung Station, so there was a bar-style solo dining zone for people eating alone at lunch, and the tables were spaced generously! They said we could sit anywhere that was open, so here's the spot I picked~~~

## What we ordered: sirloin gyukatsu and brie cheese omurice

You order using the QR code attached to the table. Feels like every place in Seoul these days uses QR ordering...! What I ordered that day was

- (Main) Sirloin gyukatsu
- (Recommended) Brie cheese omurice

these two 🍽️

After ordering, a staff member lit the fire for us 🔥

While waiting for the food, I read through the sign next to the table on how to enjoy the omurice/gyukatsu properly. I was curious how these two dishes would pair together—

## Sirloin gyukatsu grilled on a mini brazier at the table

🥩 Sirloin gyukatsu. Gyukatsu is different from regular tonkatsu, so every once in a while I get a craving for it. This time I went with the sirloin cut, which is apparently Gyuen Dang's signature.

![Cross-section of sirloin gyukatsu showing the marbling](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-seolleung-weekend-late-lunch/gyuendang-seolleung-weekend-late-lunch-17-192bx-900.webp)

![Crispy fried coating of the sirloin gyukatsu](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-seolleung-weekend-late-lunch/gyuendang-seolleung-weekend-late-lunch-18-1vpz6-900.webp)

Ohh, the marbling on the sirloin is a work of art. The outside is fried crispy, and you get to cook the inside meat exactly as much as you like!

![Side dishes: butter, cabbage salad, sauce, kimchi, and miso soup](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-seolleung-weekend-late-lunch/gyuendang-seolleung-weekend-late-lunch-20-xi794-900.webp)

It comes with a bowl of rice, and sides of butter, cabbage salad, sauce, kimchi, and miso soup on top of that!

Remember that guide on how to eat gyukatsu properly? I tried it plain first, then grilled it with butter, then dipped it in the sauce!

![A piece of sirloin gyukatsu placed on top of rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-seolleung-weekend-late-lunch/gyuendang-seolleung-weekend-late-lunch-23-1uoxf-900.webp)

Tried it on top of rice too 🫶🏻 It said to grill for only 15-20 seconds, but I liked mine a bit more cooked. Since you get to grill it yourself to your own taste, there's something fun about chatting away while you eat!

## How does the brie cheese omurice taste?

And the second dish, 🧀 brie cheese omurice. I was actually more curious about this one than the gyukatsu. Since it's omurice with brie cheese, how different would it be from regular omurice...?

Cutting it in half with a knife revealed a round white disc of brie cheese! Brie is apparently a cheese aged with a white mold rind. Omurice's soft egg and rice combo is already delicious on its own, but adding the nutty, rich cheese on top made it wonderfully soft and tender.

My partner took one bite and made a puzzled face haha, like huh...? That's how slightly unusual the taste is! I'm a total cheese lover so I was completely into it.

There was also a private restroom near the entrance! After finishing everything, the richness of the cheese and gyukatsu made a coffee transfusion urgent... so off we went to a café we'd already scoped out.

## Is Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch worth a visit?

Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch was a spot I found while looking for lunch near Seolleung Station. We ordered the sirloin gyukatsu and brie cheese omurice, and it turned out to be a solid choice when you want something different from your usual lunch! The interior was clean too, so it worked well for a meal with a partner or friend, and it's worth keeping in mind when deciding on lunch around Seolleung Station 🤍

- Comfortable, clean atmosphere — works fine for a date or a group meal
- Varied menu — beyond gyukatsu, there are rice bowls, curry, and more to choose from
- Sirloin gyukatsu — fun to grill yourself, and you can add extra meat after ordering!
- Brie cheese omurice — a unique dish worth trying if you like soft egg paired with cheese
- A dish to cut the richness — one spicy soup side would help balance the heaviness and round out the meal
