I wanted to tell you about a delicious restaurant near Sunae Station in Bundang-gu, Seongnam, Gyeonggi. It specializes in cold noodles and chicken dishes — cool noodles in summer, warm chicken kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) in winter — so I really wanted to recommend it 🐔

This is Myeongyeok, a kalguksu and cold noodle spot near Sunae Station, located on the 1st floor of the Sunae Pantheon building, the one with the Hanssem store.

I parked in the basement and headed up — the basement parking lot is nice and spacious 🚗 At lunch, it's great for office workers eating solo or big groups having a hearty meal. In the evening, it suits everything from family dinners to date nights.

## Inside Myeongyeok: the room and the table setting

Past the entrance corridor at Myeongyeok Bundang Sunae, there are lots of spacious tables — about 15 in total — so it can seat a lot of people. Since it's a noodle restaurant, turnover is quick too.

### How to eat Myeongyeok's chicken kalguksu

Here's how to best enjoy the chicken kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) at Myeongyeok, a kalguksu spot near Sunae Station in Bundang.

- Taste the broth first, then try the kalguksu noodles with the house-grown, house-made geotjeori (fresh cabbage kimchi).
- Dip the noodles into the perilla oil sauce for a nutty, savory bite.
- Finish with suhyangmi rice mixed into the leftover broth.

Each table has utensils, vinegar, mustard, seasoning sauce, and — I thought that metal canister held pepper, but it was actually salt 🧂

## What we ordered at Myeongyeok: chicken kalguksu, perilla oil cold noodles, chicken katsu set

Here's what I ordered. Along with the cold noodles, the dish I highly recommend at Myeongyeok is the Western-style chicken katsu — made with chicken breast and tenderloin, crispy like pork cutlet on the outside but moist inside, a signature only Myeongyeok makes. I was so curious about the taste that I chose the katsu set, which comes with extras.

The self-serve corner has pickled radish, kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi), kimchi, and rice blended with suhyangmi rice for a subtle aroma and deep, chewy flavor, plus hot broth. Plates, cups, water, and other utensils are all here too.

There's even an apron available.

There's a seasoning sauce on the table. If you want your chicken kalguksu or chicken gomtang (chicken stew) spicier and redder, or want to add more to your cold noodles, feel free — but it gets salty if you use too much. Add it little by little 😊

## How is the Western-style tenderloin chicken katsu?

First to arrive was Myeongyeok's Western-style tenderloin chicken katsu. This was my first time trying a katsu made from chicken, so I was really excited.

That nostalgic old-school Western-style sauce, drizzled on top — delicious from the very first bite 🤭 And it came thoughtfully served with coleslaw, a dinner roll, and pickles, perfect for eating burger-style 🍔

Wow, what is this. I should have ordered it as a standalone main instead of a set. It's genuinely moist and tender — pork cutlet, eat your heart out.

With kimchi, it's absolute honey!

Myeongyeok's perilla oil cold noodles arrived. I've heard of perilla oil makguksu (buckwheat noodles) plenty, but this was my first time trying perilla oil cold noodles.

As I mixed it up, the nutty perilla oil aroma was incredible. I couldn't wait to dig in.

I especially love gungchae (aster greens), so I was surprised to find them in this dish. The crunchy texture paired so well with the nutty perilla oil noodles 💚

## Chicken kalguksu broth made with half a chicken

The chicken kalguksu from Myeongyeok, a favorite near Sunae Station, arrived 🐔 The hot, rich broth was perfect for the chillier weather these days.

The broth is genuinely the real deal!! Rich and delicious — you can tell the chicken was properly simmered down. Now I understand why there's rice at the self-serve bar. Isn't mixing rice into this broth basically the perfect meal? 😆

The meat was so moist and tender too. Half a chicken goes into the bowl, so it's great value and great flavor.

The chicken thigh was tender, and surprisingly, the chicken breast wasn't dry at all — it was soft too. The chicken paired beautifully with the noodles. Add Myeongyeok's house kimchi and it's a perfect match!

## Tossing the noodles in Myeongyeok's special perilla oil sauce

And then I tried the noodles dipped in Myeongyeok's special perilla oil sauce near Sunae Station. It's the kind of dish that makes you call the owner over to compliment them. I'd never had anything like this before, and it was genuinely delicious.

Perfectly seasoned, nutty, and with the occasional crunch of perilla seeds — the texture was flawless 😁

This alone made me want to go back 🤎🖤🤎🖤
