## In short

Gohobi Katsu is a tonkatsu (Japanese pork cutlet) restaurant on Maesan-ro near Suwon Station in Suwon, Gyeonggi. Returning three months after a first visit for the Set B combo and mazesoba, the writer ordered rosu katsu (loin cutlet) at 13,000 won and kimchi cheese nabe donkatsu at 15,000 won, and even as a hire (tenderloin) loyalist found the juicy rosu katsu best with nothing but a dip of salt. Gohobi Katsu is the kind of place that satisfies whichever menu you pick on a return visit.

I went back to Gohobi Katsu, a tonkatsu spot near Suwon Station that I first visited last June, exactly three months later 👏

On my first visit I had the Set B combo with cheese katsu and hire katsu (tenderloin cutlet), plus mazesoba. The hire katsu was so juicy and tender that it stuck in my memory, so this time I picked different menu items to avoid overlap.

- Rosu katsu ₩13,000
- Kimchi cheese nabe donkatsu ₩15,000

Personally I usually prefer hire (tenderloin) over rosu (loin) when it comes to tonkatsu, but this time I ended up really enjoying the rosu katsu, so here's my revisit review ෆ

Gohobi Katsu is within walking distance of Suwon Station, so it's a convenient stop when you're looking for a meal around AK Plaza or the Rodeo Street area ❗️ There's also a bus stop nearby, so it was easy to get to by public transportation.

## Inside Gohobi Katsu: counter seats for solo diners

Gohobi Katsu has a calm, wood-toned interior with bar-style seating, so it's an easy place to eat alone without feeling awkward.

Even three months later, the place was still spotless ✔️

The kitchen is open, so you can see the cooking happening right in front of you — and for a place that sells fried food, the state of the kitchen matters, right? ✨ Everything was really neatly kept, so I could eat comfortably.

## What we ordered: rosu katsu and kimchi cheese nabe donkatsu

![Gohobi Katsu's menu](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu-11-1cddh-966.webp)

Since I'd already tried the hire and cheese katsu on my first visit, this time I ordered the classic rosu katsu and the soupy kimchi cheese nabe donkatsu.

- ✅ Rosu katsu ₩13,000
- ✅ Kimchi cheese nabe donkatsu ₩15,000

One crispy tonkatsu and one warm nabe (hot pot) — a good combo for two people to share 💓

### What comes with the set, plus the complimentary curry

Gohobi Katsu's set menu comes with rice, soup, side dishes, and salad.

![Basic set with rice, soup, side dishes, and salad](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu-13-1wjw0-966.webp)

You can choose from two dressings for the salad, and it's fresh with a slight sweetness that works well between bites of tonkatsu.

And if you ask, you can get curry on the house too — eating tonkatsu with rice and then finishing with curry makes for a really filling meal :) If you want details on the curry, the assorted katsu, and the mazesoba, check out my previous visit post!

## Rosu katsu at 13,000 won: why a tenderloin fan was won over

Gohobi Katsu's rosu katsu at ₩13,000 was the tastiest thing I've had across both visits. I usually prefer hire (tenderloin) over rosu (loin) when I eat tonkatsu!

![Rosu katsu set at Gohobi Katsu](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu-14-shs2a-966.webp)

![Cross-section of a thickly sliced rosu katsu](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu-15-14id9-966.webp)

With loin cuts, if it's not done right, the meat can feel dry or the fat can feel like it's separate from the rest, so I usually go for hire katsu instead.

![Close-up of rosu katsu's crispy batter](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu-16-8hks7-966.webp)

But here, the rosu katsu was genuinely juicy from the first bite. The batter outside was crispy, while the meat inside was tender and still held its juices, with almost none of that typical dryness you get with loin.

The ratio of lean meat to fat was well balanced too — not overwhelming — so the savory flavor came through without being greasy. At first I dipped it lightly in salt rather than piling on sauce, and the meat flavor came through even more, which personally was my favorite way to eat it.

![A piece of rosu katsu dipped in salt](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu-17-1ydrz-966.webp)

Last time I loved the hire katsu, but this time, even as someone who's usually team hire, I ended up loving the rosu katsu even more, which was kind of a surprise haha. If you usually prefer hire katsu, I'd say give the rosu katsu here a try too.

![Rosu katsu served over rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu-18-i7m19-966.webp)

![Overhead view of the rosu katsu set](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu-19-1hgxw-966.webp)

![Remaining rosu katsu and salad on the plate](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu-20-17u93-966.webp)

## Is the kimchi cheese nabe donkatsu (15,000 won) spicy?

Despite the name, Gohobi Katsu's kimchi cheese nabe donkatsu at ₩15,000 wasn't particularly spicy or strongly seasoned. It's tonkatsu and cheese served over kimchi nabe (hot pot).

![Kimchi cheese nabe donkatsu topped with melted cheese](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu-21-1bifd-966.webp)

Visually it looks like it would be piping hot, but it wasn't as hot as expected, so it was fine to dig in right away.

And going by the name alone you'd expect it to be spicy or heavily seasoned, but it really wasn't intense at all. The spice level and seasoning were both mild enough that even kids could probably eat it!

It felt more like a comforting soup dish. Eating a spoonful of rice along with the broth felt like having tonkatsu with a kimchi-based soup. It wasn't spicy or sharp-tasting, so it went well with rice, which I liked :)

## Back after three months, and next time the premium rosu katsu

![A poster hanging inside Gohobi Katsu](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu-22-44my4-966.webp)
*So cute ㅜㅜ,., top marks for the poster design,,*

I went back to Gohobi Katsu three months after my first visit in June. Since I usually prefer hire over rosu, enjoying the rosu katsu this much stuck with me even more.

The kimchi cheese nabe donkatsu wasn't spicy or heavily seasoned either, so it was easy to eat comfortably with a bowl of rice, like a soup.

![Table at Gohobi Katsu after finishing the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu-23-1u381-966.webp)

A place that's only good on one visit is one thing, but when you come back, order something completely different, and still walk away satisfied, it naturally comes to mind again haha. Next time I want to try the special rosu I've been curious about while looking at the menu.. ( ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ )♡

![Final shot of Gohobi Katsu's interior](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu/suwon-station-gohobi-katsu-revisit-loin-katsu-24-otoqz-966.webp)

If you're near Suwon Station looking for a clean tonkatsu spot, a good place to eat solo, or trying to figure out lunch, Gohobi Katsu is worth a visit. Especially if, like me, you usually prefer hire katsu — give the rosu katsu here a try too ෆ
