After checking out of our hotel, we were trying to figure out where to go, and since traffic back to Seoul would obviously be terrible if we left late, we decided to fuel up on a solid breakfast first — so we had a hot bowl of yukgaejang (spicy beef and vegetable soup) at this Wonju Bus Terminal favorite! The broth is spicy and great for a hangover, with adjustable heat levels, and since it's open 24 hours, it's also great for a nightcap in the evening. There are plenty of kid-friendly options too — if I lived nearby, this is the kind of place I'd become a regular at: Yukdaejang Dangye Musil-jeom.

I came with my kids and we ordered a large hanbang bossam, cha-dol brisket yukgaejang, and yukgaejang kalguksu each — doesn't the side dish spread look neat and appetizing? Even with just a little salted shrimp added, the meat was tender and soft, and the kids could eat it happily as a rice side dish — this is known as a yukgaejang spot in Wonju, but the bossam was really delicious too. Piled high with fresh lettuce wraps and bossam kimchi, it was great eaten in one bite or paired with the tofu — every combination added more savory depth, and it made me want to eat it again 😋

My husband's pick was the cha-dol brisket yukgaejang! It's packed with cha-dol brisket and yukgaejang toppings, plus glass noodles, so the portion of ingredients was really generous. When they poured in warm rice, every single grain got coated in that deep broth flavor, and after one bite I immediately thought, this calls for soju. It's that kind of flavor — hangover-curing but somehow also soju-craving, spicy and rich. If you're a drinker, you know exactly what I mean 😁
