## In short

Jeonju House is a Korean restaurant in Bongmyeong-dong, Yuseong, Daejeon, serving fresh pork belly grilled on a cast-iron pot lid and galbi kimchi stew cooked in a cauldron. After a lunch of galbi kimchi stew and rolled egg on an earlier visit, the writer came back for dinner with her husband and ordered two servings of the cast-iron-lid pork belly at ₩16,000 each, then added a third serving after one bite because the cuts were as thick as five-layer pork belly. For thick-cut pork belly with aged kimchi, Jeonju House is the answer.

## Jeonju House, a pork belly restaurant in Bongmyeong-dong, Yuseong

I first visited this spot in Bongmyeong-dong, Daejeon for lunch with a close friend, and this time I brought my husband back! This is Jeonju House, famous as a go-to pork belly restaurant in Yuseong, Daejeon!

There are so many jangdokdae (earthenware jars) at the entrance — they must make their own sauces and pastes! It feels like visiting grandma's house in the countryside, haha. Really gives off a warm, nostalgic vibe.

## Why we came back at dinner after lunchtime galbi kimchi stew

Last time I visited for lunch and kept it simple with galbi kimchi stew and rolled egg, and it was so delicious~! I noticed some people eating pork belly even at lunch, which made me want to come back for dinner. Jeonju House basically has two main menus — pork belly and galbi kimchi stew — so I really wanted to try the pork belly on my next visit. Being a well-known spot, it was packed even in the evening. Every time I come, it's full of customers, so it must really be a local favorite!

They served water in proper hygienic cups, which gives a clean impression. The aprons are disposable, too, which I liked. It really feels excellent in terms of hygiene and cleanliness.

## What side dishes come with it, and the self-refill corner

Let's take a look at the side dish lineup~ Pan-fried tofu, braised pollack, salad, stir-fried seaweed stems, braised potatoes, pickled onions, seasoned eggplant, white wood-ear mushrooms, watery kimchi, aged kimchi, lettuce and peppers, and fresh chive salad — all these appetizing side dishes come out one after another. The seasoning is just right and they pair really well with the meat.

If you want more of any side dish, you can just use the self-refill corner. Feel free to refill as much as you like. Bean sprouts weren't part of the basic side dishes, but they were at the self-refill corner, so I grabbed some to grill together with the pork belly :)

## Two servings of cast-iron-lid pork belly: how thick are the cuts?

The main event, pork belly, finally arrives! It was two servings but came as a single strip, which caught me off guard — but the meat was incredibly thick!! I'm totally into thick-cut meat, haha.

![Two thick servings of cast-iron-lid pork belly](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeonju-house-yuseong-thick-samgyeopsal-dinner/jeonju-house-yuseong-thick-samgyeopsal-dinner-13-1ur97-900.webp)

Since it's grilled on a cast-iron pot lid, it's guaranteed to be delicious. Nice and shiny — you can just tell it's going to grill up amazingly.

We piled on the pork belly, aged kimchi, and garlic all at once. Watching the pork belly slowly cook is the hardest part... I can't be the only one, right...??? The pork belly at Jeonju House is especially thick, so you need patience. Watch out for dizziness from hunger~

Right around when the tasty side dishes were curbing our hunger, the pork belly finally turned golden brown and perfectly cooked. One bite in, and I immediately ordered another serving!! It was so chewy and thick that I blurted out, 'Wow, this is delicious,' right away, haha.

## Aged kimchi and bean sprouts: for anyone who likes thick-cut pork

If you're looking for a great pork belly restaurant in Yuseong, Daejeon, it's Jeonju House. I love that the pork belly has that oh-gyeop-sal (extra-fatty five-layer pork belly) feel to it >_< I guess there are people who prefer thin slices of pork belly and people who prefer thick ones, but I'm firmly in the thick-cut camp! (Same with raw fish — I like thick slices too, haha. I just like taking a big mouthful.)

The aged kimchi and bean sprouts grilled in the pork belly fat are seriously the best, and honestly you could eat just rice and kimchi with no meat at all and it would still go down easily. Pork belly really is a perfect match with good aged kimchi!

## Does Jeonju House work for a group dinner or a family meal?

It's been a while since I felt this well-oiled and satisfied, haha. It's exactly the kind of place that makes you want to come back — a beloved pork belly restaurant in Yuseong, Daejeon. Definitely go check out Jeonju House~! The galbi kimchi stew is also clean and delicious, and going by how often people order it, it seems like it's split about half pork belly, half stew. Whether for a simple meal, a work dinner, or a family outing, I highly recommend this place.
