## In short

Cheonje Guksu is a noodle and suyuk (boiled pork) Korean restaurant in Tanhyeon-myeon, Paju, near Heyri Art Village, set among open rice fields. Handmade tofu and kimchi from homegrown soybeans come as basic side dishes, and even the regular-size janchi guksu and bibim guksu arrived bowl-full enough to fill up a visit with a child. A solid noodle house for a Paju outing, especially since they'll bump your order to a large portion at no extra charge.

There was an overnight program at the Gyeonggi Future Education Paju Campus over the weekend, so on the way back I stopped for some good noodles too. ^^ A perfect spot to enjoy a bowl of noodles without any fuss while looking out at a quiet countryside scene on a Paju outing! I got to enjoy handmade tofu, freshly boiled pork, and plenty of noodles~!

## A quiet rice-field view and a spacious parking lot

Head further up past Heyri Art Village and turn slightly off the road, and you'll find it in a quiet standalone building surrounded by green fields.

The surrounding road isn't busy, and there's a wide open lot right in front of the restaurant, so even new drivers can park easily.

I really loved how quiet it felt. With the cool autumn breeze, it's great weather for an outing lately. ^^

![Sign for the seasonal kongguksu menu outside the restaurant](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-tanhyeon-rice-field-noodle-house/paju-tanhyeon-rice-field-noodle-house-05-1ml1g-900.webp)

Looks like they've opened a seasonal menu item — kongguksu (chilled soybean noodle soup)! The reviews for it here are apparently great. If you like kongguksu, come give it a try.

Stepping inside, there's a good mix of regular chair seating and ondol (heated floor) low tables.

It's a layout well suited for families with young kids or anyone who wants to sit comfortably to choose whichever seating works best.

Reading the banner on the wall, it turns out they even make their own tofu from soybeans they grow themselves. That probably explains why the kongguksu tastes so good.

## Menu overview

![Menu board listing janchi guksu, bibim guksu, and doenjang guksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-tanhyeon-rice-field-noodle-house/paju-tanhyeon-rice-field-noodle-house-10-1mp3g-900.webp)

Since it's a noodle restaurant, the menu is simple. There's janchi guksu (noodle soup), bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles), and uniquely, doenjang guksu (soybean paste noodle soup) topped with Korean beef brisket. If you're a rice person, the ureong gangdoenjang bap (snail soybean paste rice) is good too! One thing to note — you can ask for a larger portion here at no extra charge! The regular size is already generous, but if you want to eat until you're stuffed, just ask for the large portion when ordering. ^^

## Handmade tofu from field-grown soybeans and suyuk with a nicely seared surface

![Handmade tofu and kimchi served as basic side dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-tanhyeon-rice-field-noodle-house/paju-tanhyeon-rice-field-noodle-house-11-1lf93-900.webp)

Once we sat down and finished ordering, handmade tofu and kimchi came out as the basic side dishes.

![Cross-section of a torn-off piece of handmade tofu](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-tanhyeon-rice-field-noodle-house/paju-tanhyeon-rice-field-noodle-house-12-5w37l-900.webp)

Tasting a piece of the tofu, there was no fishy off-taste at all — just a firm, clean texture through and through. Handmade tofu really is the best. haha

Topping it with a bit of their homemade kimchi was more than enough to take the edge off pre-meal hunger~! It was tasty enough that my kid ate it up too.

![Single serving of suyuk served with sebalnamul salad](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-tanhyeon-rice-field-noodle-house/paju-tanhyeon-rice-field-noodle-house-13-od1yw-900.webp)

Next came the single-serving suyuk (boiled pork) — wow... this doesn't feel like a ₩7,000 dish at all?

The surface seemed to have been gently seared, keeping the moisture in for a soft texture rather than being dry.

The crunch of the sebalnamul (glasswort) salad and the sweetness of the mu kimchi (radish kimchi) served alongside balanced nicely with the savory pork.

## Clean anchovy janchi guksu with fried tofu and tangy bibim guksu

![Regular-size janchi guksu and bibim guksu served together](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-tanhyeon-rice-field-noodle-house/paju-tanhyeon-rice-field-noodle-house-15-1rptr-900.webp)

We ordered both janchi guksu and bibim guksu in regular size, and each bowl came filled to the brim with noodles — a real noodle-house move. Ordering the large portion carelessly is a no-go. hahaha

![Janchi guksu topped with fried tofu and zucchini garnish](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-tanhyeon-rice-field-noodle-house/paju-tanhyeon-rice-field-noodle-house-16-4bt2u-900.webp)

The anchovy broth was cleanly brewed and lightly topped with fried tofu and zucchini garnish, giving a refreshing rather than heavy soup flavor!

![Noodles from the janchi guksu lifted up](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-tanhyeon-rice-field-noodle-house/paju-tanhyeon-rice-field-noodle-house-17-l7ueh-900.webp)

It's tasty on its own with the sebalnamul, and wrapping a piece of suyuk with the noodles was great too — the clean flavor of the pork paired well with the noodles.

This is the bibim guksu topped with whole eolgali (young cabbage) greens. Quite a unique-looking dish~!

The warm broth served alongside had a faint doenjang (soybean paste) flavor with real depth — I figured this must be the base for their doenjang guksu!

![Warm doenjang broth served alongside the bibim guksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/paju-tanhyeon-rice-field-noodle-house/paju-tanhyeon-rice-field-noodle-house-21-51ntu-900.webp)

The bibim guksu had a perfect balance of spicy and tangy, without being overwhelmingly hot.

It's the kind of flavor pretty much everyone would enjoy. Both my husband and I ate it up~!

Finishing off the noodles and suyuk together left us feeling warm and satisfyingly full. ^^

## Overall thoughts and visit tips

Cheonje Guksu is a well-run noodle house where you can enjoy an open rice-field view along with carefully made tofu from soybeans grown on-site, and noodles that fill you right up — a great stop on a Paju outing. ^^ Having tried janchi guksu and bibim guksu, next time I'll take on the doenjang guksu~!

> 💡 If you're confident about your appetite or just a big eater, mention it when ordering and they'll switch your portion to large at no extra charge. The suyuk is genuinely delicious, so make sure to order it and enjoy it with the noodles!!
