## In short

Don Tamguso is a pork tasting-menu restaurant within walking distance of Magok Station in Gangseo, Seoul. Friends booked a table for Friday at 7:30pm and worked through the 58,000 won dinner course, from chestnut and button mushroom soup to shio koji tenderloin, pork belly with minari (water dropwort) salad, abalone risotto, a jambon burger and panna cotta. Instead of an ordinary grill house, Don Tamguso is a Magok course meal built for slow conversation on a date or with a group.

Whenever I'm on a date in Magok I end up wondering where to eat. This time, looking for somewhere different from the usual grilled-meat spots with friends, I went to Don Tamguso. It's a course restaurant that serves pork prepared in a bunch of different ways, so I was curious what would actually come out before I visited — and eating it in person, it really did feel different from a typical Korean BBQ place. I booked the Friday 7:30pm slot with friends.

## How to walk to Don Tamguso from Magok Station, and where to park

Don Tamguso is at 11 Magokjungang 6-ro, Gangseo-gu, Seoul. It's an easy walk from Magok Station, so public transit works fine, and if you drive there's a basement parking lot in the building — free for up to 2 hours, worth noting if you're bringing a car.

Magok has a lot of cafés clustered near its restaurants too, so it's easy to continue on to a café afterward. If you're looking for a Magok date spot that flows from dinner straight into coffee, this could work well.

Walking in, the clean counter seats catch your eye first, and further inside there are table seats too. We used the table seats that night 😊 If there are just two of you, the counter seats would be nice and cozy; if you're with friends like we were, the tables are more comfortable.

## What makes a pork course different from a grill house?

What struck me most about Don Tamguso was that the pork isn't served just one way — you get it across a whole range of dishes. Usually at a Korean BBQ place you're grilling meat on a tabletop grill, but here the pork is unpacked into course after course, which made the meal feel a bit more special. I also liked that there was a printed guide on the table laying out the course order and describing each dish in advance.

From soup and salad through the meat dishes, the mains, and dessert, you could see exactly what order everything would come in — which made waiting for the next dish half the fun.

Each dish came with an explanation from staff. Knowing what ingredients went into it and how it was cooked, rather than just looking at a menu, made me pay a lot more attention to the food.

The first course, a soup with chestnut and button mushroom, was smooth and easy to eat, a nice way to open up the appetite.

The salad had orange, apple, dried persimmon, prosciutto and basil, topped with omija (schisandra berry) foam — bright and refreshing, a great appetizer.

A memorable dish too: shiitake mushroom stuffed with mozzarella and white ragu.

I don't usually eat shiitake much, but paired with the white ragu it was surprisingly good. Even if you're not normally a mushroom person, this one's worth trying at least once.

Nacho chips topped with con carne and rigatoni were a fun one too.

Tasty piled on top of the chips, and if you crush the chips up, it's a completely different texture.

If you like wine, this would pair nicely!

## Best dishes: shio koji tenderloin and pork belly with minari

Of everything on the course, the two I remember most were the tenderloin dish and the pork belly with minari (water dropwort) salad.

![Pork tenderloin dish from the course](https://img.superchart.com/images/magok-pork-omakase-friends-dinner/magok-pork-omakase-friends-dinner-12-1o192-900.webp)

The shio koji tenderloin came garnished with button mushroom, broccoli and sun-dried tomato.

Eating the meat with its garnishes rather than plain, each combination worked really well. And then they brought out altari (young radish) pickles — wow, genuinely delicious!!

And the pork belly paired with minari salad was a combination I especially loved — the pork's flavor and minari's distinctive aroma worked so well together, and the hwajiao (Sichuan pepper) had this subtle floral scent that surprised me.

### Main course choice: jambon burger or abalone risotto

Pork I normally eat all the time felt totally different with these preparations and pairings. For the main you could choose between a burger or a risotto — we split the two so we could try both.

![Jambon burger chosen as the main course](https://img.superchart.com/images/magok-pork-omakase-friends-dinner/magok-pork-omakase-friends-dinner-18-z3m7i-900.webp)

The burger had jambon, arugula and carrot, while the risotto was made with abalone and its roe sauce.

The risotto had a fun popping texture alongside soft abalone, and it came with fried banpungnamul (glehnia root) too, surprisingly tasty.

Dessert to finish was panna cotta.

A soft pudding with a rich milky flavor, served with berries — a clean way to finish the meal 😋

## Is Don Tamguso a good date restaurant in Magok?

Search for Magok date restaurants and you'll find everything from Korean BBQ to Italian to cafés. Don Tamguso stood out as a good pick for a day when you want something a bit different from the usual. It was fun that pork wasn't just grilled but built into a whole course with all kinds of dishes. Since the food came out one dish at a time instead of all at once, we could chat with friends about each dish and eat slowly — which would make it nice for couples too, tasting each course together while talking.

## What to know before booking Don Tamguso

Since Don Tamguso runs as a course-only restaurant, it's best to check your preferred date and time and book ahead. We reserved the Friday 7:30pm slot in advance. If you're planning to go on a weekend or in the evening, I'd recommend checking availability before you go.

If you're driving, there's building parking with 2 hours free — worth keeping in mind. Menu, prices and parking terms can change over time, so double-check the latest details when you book.

## Who Don Tamguso suits for a night out in Magok

Visiting Don Tamguso, I realized that pork — something so familiar — can feel completely different served as a course. Instead of just grilling meat, we got to taste soup, salad, a range of pork dishes, mains and dessert in sequence, which made the whole meal feel like one continuous course.

I especially liked that shiitake, which I don't usually enjoy, tasted great with the white ragu, and combinations like pork belly with minari salad or the floral hwajiao were things I don't normally get to experience. On top of that, it's an easy walk from Magok Station with plenty of cafés nearby, so it's a convenient spot to build a longer outing around.

If you're in Magok and looking for something a bit more special than an ordinary grilled-meat place, Don Tamguso is worth considering for a date. It works well with friends, like our visit, or as a slow date spot for couples working through a course together. Listening to the explanations, you could really feel the owner's pride and passion behind each dish, which made it more fun. For me, wanting to try a different kind of pork course in Magok, it was a chance to enjoy pork in a way I hadn't before.

Address: 11 Magokjungang 6-ro, 128ho, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It's right next to Manseon Hof, so it shouldn't be hard to find!
