## In short

Appa Jjim Hanam Main Branch is a braised pollock (codari) and monkfish restaurant on Wolho-ro in Hanam, Gyeonggi. Visiting on a Sunday at noon meant a 20-minute wait, but the sirasi codari jorim (dried radish greens braised pollock) for three, an extra order of sirasi, and two servings of hyangmi pot rice made it worthwhile — surprisingly, the seasoned radish stole the show more than the pollock itself. Parking fits about 30 cars, though anyone hoping to skip the wait should aim for very early or very late.

Today I visited Appa Jjim Hanam Main Branch, a braised pollock place my parents go to often. This spot is genuinely popular, so brace yourself for a wait during weekend peak meal times 🔥🔥

## Is there parking?

They own a big lot. Space for about 30 cars. A restaurant with a spacious parking lot is love 🫶

## The vibe inside and the maekbanseok cooking method

Walking in, there were already plenty of traces of celebrities who'd visited.

There were several badges, including one from SBS's food guide show. But I don't get swayed by signage like this — I trust only my own tongue. 🙏 Amen.

This place emphasizes that it's the world's first to use 180-degree maekbanseok (roasted stone) cooking. I really respect a restaurant that highlights its own special, ownable feature.

You could feel the long research behind their monkfish jjim. We actually ordered the pollock version, but it's the same braising style, so it should be similar... right?

### Sunday noon waiting

We arrived Sunday at noon. It was already packed. We waited about 20 minutes before getting seated.

There are private rooms inside and plenty of seats — there were just more people than seats.

## What we ordered

- Sirasi codari jorim (braised pollock with dried radish greens) for 3
- Extra sirasi
- Hyangmi pot rice for 2

![Menu board at Appa Jjim Main Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish-08-jydsn-900.webp)

![Order details shown at the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish-09-g9wtw-900.webp)

We ordered as listed above. Let me say upfront: adding extra radish is a serious recommendation. The radish is insane...

![Side dishes served with the braised pollock](https://img.superchart.com/images/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish-10-18982-900.webp)

These are the side dishes — nothing particularly special.

![Staff member cleaning bones from the sirasi codari jorim](https://img.superchart.com/images/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish-11-yhdso-900.webp)

When the braised pollock came out, the staff member cleaned out the bones for us, which made it so much easier to eat (there were of course still some small bones).

![Three pollock over a bed of dried radish greens](https://img.superchart.com/images/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish-12-36g7z-900.webp)

One pollock per person, three total. The dried radish greens sat underneath. It looks like a small portion in photos, but it's actually not a small amount.

![Close-up of seasoned pollock flesh](https://img.superchart.com/images/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish-13-d1495-900.webp)

![A tender bite of pollock](https://img.superchart.com/images/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish-14-7wwlb-900.webp)

### The pollock's texture and seasoning

Because of the 180-degree maekbanseok method I mentioned, the pollock's juices and sweetness stay locked in. It was really tender and well-seasoned, the seasoning perfectly balanced. 👍👍👍

![Braised tofu served with the pollock jjim](https://img.superchart.com/images/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish-15-8bejt-900.webp)

Tofu... protein... 🤤🤤🤤 Let's be honest, everyone eats braised tofu for the sauce flavor. If the tofu tastes this good, the pollock jjim can't possibly be bad!!

![Extra dried radish greens soaked in seasoning](https://img.superchart.com/images/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish-16-d52hl-900.webp)

### Definitely add the sirasi

The dried radish greens (sirasi) don't come standard, so you have to add them. They soak up all the seasoning, so eating them together is pure bliss.

![A spoonful of pot rice topped with pollock and radish greens](https://img.superchart.com/images/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish-17-16dr2-900.webp)

Pollock + sirasi + rice from the pot. Just looking at it makes your mouth water, right? As a kid I disliked both pollock and dried radish greens, but why does it taste so good the older I get 😂😂 It has carbs, protein, and fiber, so it's nutritionally solid too. All three of us kept saying "if we weren't hiking after this, we'd order more" haha (we held back since we were headed hiking haha).

![Radish fully soaked in seasoning from the pollock jjim](https://img.superchart.com/images/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish-18-lbucf-900.webp)

### The extra radish is a real five-star item

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This seasoned radish... genuinely tender, well-seasoned, insane. The pollock is delicious, but the radish is on another level entirely... perfection itself... I'm speechless. You know how radish quality varies wildly by restaurant, right? This place's radish is the real deal. You could seriously eat a whole bowl of rice with just the radish.

![Bean sprouts mixed with seasoning](https://img.superchart.com/images/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish-19-1grun-900.webp)

They mix in bean sprouts too

![Pollock and rice wrapped in seaweed](https://img.superchart.com/images/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish-20-o7uq7-900.webp)

And wrap it in seaweed too~

![Glossy hyangmi pot rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish-21-1mwl3-900.webp)

### Hyangmi pot rice and scorched rice finish

The hyangmi pot rice is fluffy, glossy, and really delicious. I'm always happy when the rice itself is good!

![Pouring water into the pot to make scorched rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish-22-1rnfg-900.webp)

They pour in water too

![Finished scorched rice from the pot](https://img.superchart.com/images/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish-23-zaerq-900.webp)

Scorched rice (nurungji) complete! Eating the scorched rice together with the seasoned pollock is incredibly good too.

## Final verdict

I eat braised pollock often for work lunches, and a lot of places have dry, tough fish or a sauce that's just too sweet. Appa Jjim balances sweet and salty well, and the fish is remarkably tender with real juiciness — it was delicious. Definitely recommend visiting at least once!

![Waiting crowd still outside the restaurant at 1:30 PM](https://img.superchart.com/images/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish/appajjim-hanam-kodari-sunday-lunch-radish-24-1vrl4-900.webp)

We finished eating and left around 1:30, and even then the wait was enormous. If you hate waiting, I'd recommend coming very early or very late~ haha That's my review of Appa Jjim, a genuinely popular braised pollock spot that's great for a family visit with parents.
