## In short

Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch is a Korean pork BBQ restaurant a 4–5 minute walk from Exit 10 of Sookdae Ipgu Station in Yongsan, Seoul. On a Friday at 7pm with a Naver reservation, the writer ordered the Muttuk Handon Assorted Set of pork neck, pork belly and whole galmaegisal (pork skirt meat), plus cheese bomb egg custard and steamed rice, with staff grilling each cut at the table. Galmaegisal dipped in the garlic sauce was the highlight of a generous meal for two.

On a Friday evening, my partner and I went to Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch. We ordered generously — the pork assorted set that lets you try pork neck, pork belly, and galmaegisal (skirt meat) all at once, plus the cheese bomb egg custard. The staff grilled the meat for us themselves and even told us the best way to eat it, so it was an easy, relaxed meal at this Korean BBQ restaurant near Sookdae.

## Getting there from Sookdae Ipgu Station, parking and booking on Naver

![Exterior of Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch on the ground floor along Cheongpa-ro](https://img.superchart.com/images/mudduk-sookmyung-friday-dinner-garlic-sauce/mudduk-sookmyung-friday-dinner-garlic-sauce-02-1ksbu-900.webp)

Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch is about a 4–5 minute walk from Exit 10 of Sookdae Ipgu Station. There's no dedicated parking lot for the restaurant, but a public parking lot right next door (Cheongpa-dong public office parking) meant it wasn't too inconvenient even for us, who drove. Note that parking fees apply separately.

We booked a Naver reservation for 7pm on a Friday. If you're planning to visit in the evening, I'd recommend booking ahead. By the way, 'Muttuk' comes from a dialect word for 'suddenly' (문득) — the idea being it's a place you can casually drop into whenever you suddenly crave meat. That name fit the vibe of the place well.

## What the dining room feels like, and the service

![Interior of Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch, mainly 4-person tables](https://img.superchart.com/images/mudduk-sookmyung-friday-dinner-garlic-sauce/mudduk-sookmyung-friday-dinner-garlic-sauce-03-1ur1o-900.webp)

The restaurant is built mainly around 4-person tables. Multiple tables can be combined, so it also seemed like a good spot for Sookdae work dinners or group gatherings.

Above all, the staff were incredibly kind and attentive. Before I could even go get an apron myself, they'd already noticed and brought one over. They grilled the meat for us from start to finish and cut it into bite-sized pieces, so we didn't have to worry about the grilling at all and could just enjoy the meal.

They also sell wine and offer corkage free, which makes this a good option if you want to pair wine with your meat.

## What we ordered: the Handon assorted set and cheese bomb egg custard

Here's what we ordered: the Muttuk Hanwoo Pork Assorted Set, cheese bomb egg custard, and steamed rice. The pork assorted set comes with thick-cut pork neck, pork belly, and whole galmaegisal (skirt meat), plus a doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew). Onion, mushroom, and potato to grill alongside the meat also came out. Even without ordering just one cut,

we got to enjoy a variety of textures and flavors across the different cuts. My partner and I both tend to eat quite a lot, and even so, the pork assorted set with the egg custard and rice was plenty filling for two.

## The Handon assorted set, grilled at the table by staff

![Meat grilled and cut into pieces by the staff](https://img.superchart.com/images/mudduk-sookmyung-friday-dinner-garlic-sauce/mudduk-sookmyung-friday-dinner-garlic-sauce-10-1pyyb-900.webp)

The thick cuts of meat were grilled by the staff themselves, matched to each cut. While grilling, they cut the meat into bite-sized pieces and told us the best timing to eat it, so all we had to do was sit back and wait.

The well-cooked meat was wonderfully tender throughout, and it was seasoned just right on its own. It was delicious even plain, but there was also fun to be had trying different combinations with the various sauces and accompaniments provided.

## Salt, roasted gim with squid jeotgal, and the garlic sauce

![First bite dipped in salt](https://img.superchart.com/images/mudduk-sookmyung-friday-dinner-garlic-sauce/mudduk-sookmyung-friday-dinner-garlic-sauce-11-13rxi-900.webp)

![A wrap of roasted gim with meat and squid jeotgal](https://img.superchart.com/images/mudduk-sookmyung-friday-dinner-garlic-sauce/mudduk-sookmyung-friday-dinner-garlic-sauce-12-1ix9g-900.webp)

For the first bite, I dipped it lightly in salt to taste the meat on its own. I also tried wrapping the meat and squid jeotgal (salted fermented squid) in gim (dried seaweed) lightly toasted on the grill — the savory roasted gim and salty squid jeotgal combined surprisingly well with the meat.

I also tried it dipped in garlic sauce, and this was my favorite combination. The flavor wasn't too intense, and the garlic sauce blended naturally with the meat, making it easy to keep eating without feeling overwhelmed.

## Pork neck, pork belly or galmaegisal: which cut won?

![Well-cooked pork neck, pork belly, and galmaegisal](https://img.superchart.com/images/mudduk-sookmyung-friday-dinner-garlic-sauce/mudduk-sookmyung-friday-dinner-garlic-sauce-13-la3f6-900.webp)

The pork assorted set included pork neck, pork belly, and galmaegisal, so we got to try several cuts in one meal. I liked the galmaegisal best — chewy yet tender. My partner said the pork belly and pork neck were especially good. Even with different preferences, it was satisfying that we could each find our favorite cut within one set.

## The doenjang jjigae that comes with the set

The doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) included in the set exceeded expectations too. The broth was rich and savory, generously packed with tofu and vegetables. It went well with the rice, and having a warm spoonful between bites of meat suited the meal perfectly. Even though it was just a side included with the set, both the flavor and the portion were satisfying.

## Cheese bomb egg custard, piled with cheese

For a side dish, we ordered the cheese bomb egg custard. True to its name, it was piled generously with cheese, and the custard also had corn mixed in. Despite the large amount of cheese, the seasoning wasn't overdone and paired well with the meat. The fluffy egg custard with cheese and corn made for a heartier, more savory version of the usual egg custard.

## Is Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch worth a Friday-night visit?

![Finished spread of grilled meat at Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/mudduk-sookmyung-friday-dinner-garlic-sauce/mudduk-sookmyung-friday-dinner-garlic-sauce-14-11p4q-900.webp)

Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch was a great Yongsan pork belly restaurant for trying pork neck, pork belly, and galmaegisal all at once and enjoying a variety of cuts.

![A piece of galmaegisal dipped in garlic sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/mudduk-sookmyung-friday-dinner-garlic-sauce/mudduk-sookmyung-friday-dinner-garlic-sauce-15-uuyby-900.webp)

Having the staff grill the meat for us made things easy, and it was fun trying it with salt, roasted gim with squid jeotgal, and garlic sauce in different combinations. The galmaegisal with garlic sauce was the most memorable for me, while my partner enjoyed the pork belly and pork neck the most. The rich, savory doenjang jjigae and the cheese-loaded egg custard rounded out a satisfying overall menu.

It's close to Sookdae Ipgu Station with a public parking lot right next door, making it easy to get to. If you're looking for a Korean BBQ restaurant near Sookdae where staff grill for you, or a corkage-free spot for a work dinner or group gathering, give Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch a try!
