I had dinner plans in Jamsil and was walking around the Bangi food alley when I ended up at Jojomomo (조조모모), a place I'd heard does proper Korean-style anju (food to eat with drinks)! These days, when I'm looking for a bar in Jamsil, I find myself wanting somewhere with good food where you can actually talk, rather than somewhere too loud. The moment you head downstairs into Jojomomo the vibe changes completely, so my first impression was already pretty good ✨

From outside you could easily walk right past it, but follow the stairs down and a space opens up that's bigger than you'd expect 👀 The antique furniture and speakers give it a mood all its own, and rather than a flashy pub it's slightly vintage and calm, so it suited having a drink while chatting with a friend really well 🍶💛

## How generous was the gochujang pork stew?

🥘 Today's order: the gochujang pork stew (spicy red-pepper-paste stew)! The current price on Naver Place is ₩25,000, and it's described as a broth dish with sweet zucchini and a whopping 400g of pork simmered down with gochujang. Just from the menu description I thought, "This works as a meal AND as anju!" and picked it right away haha 😆 And when it actually landed on the table, even the pot looked pretty generous. You know how at some bars in Jamsil you order one anju and it vanishes after a few bites 😂 But this one has 400g of meat in it from the start, so it definitely feels substantial! It was great as the main dish for two people to work through slowly.

🔥 The bubbling visuals alone are spot on! As the stew starts to boil, the smell of the gochujang broth rises up — exactly the kind of look Koreans love. The broth is anchored by that sharp, savory gochujang flavor, with a subtle sweetness from the zucchini on top, so rather than being harshly spicy it's the kind you keep going back to with your spoon 😋 What I liked most was that there really is a lot of meat!

No need to dig around with the ladle hunting for a piece of pork haha. Every spoonful seems to bring meat along with it, so as a meat lover I was satisfied 🐷💕 The pork, cooked soft in the gochujang broth, was tender and easy to eat, and scooping it up with some zucchini added a sweet note that worked nicely together. I also liked how, as the broth reduced down, the flavor from the meat mixed in and it got richer and richer.

🍶 As you'd expect from a Korean cooking bar, the drinks list is varied too. Personally, a broth dish like this makes me think of soju first, but Jojomomo also stocks a wide range of traditional Korean liquors. Their official description says the selection is put together to make traditional liquor more approachable, and they also run a bar counter for solo drinkers. So it had a slightly different kind of fun compared to your usual Jamsil bar. Put one Korean dish on the table, pick a traditional liquor that suits your taste, and that alone seems like it would make for a pretty enjoyable night 🍶

The antique furniture and big speakers set the tone, and the lighting isn't too bright, so photos come out with lovely colors too 📸 The phrase everyone uses these days, "atmospheric Korean bar," fits this place well. The Bangi food alley is packed with bars and crowds, but even in the middle of that, Jojomomo clearly has its own atmosphere! Big loud nights out are fun, but sometimes you just want to eat good food and actually talk with a friend or partner, right? On those days, a space with this kind of feel matters more than you'd think 😊

## A proper dinner, even at a bar

🍚 There are days when you're at a bar but don't want to skimp on the food, right? On days like that, I liked that at Jojomomo a single main dish feels like a full dinner. With 400g of meat in it, the gochujang pork stew is filling on its own, and having a warm broth to spoon up between drinks was great too.

So among the bars in Jamsil, it's one to remember for a day when you're thinking, "Is there anywhere that does anju properly?" I especially liked that the menu isn't typical bar snacks but centers on Korean dishes familiar to Koreans, like gochujang stew, jeon (savory pancakes) and suyuk (boiled pork slices). It's familiar food, but with a touch of style added to the space and plating, it feels different from an ordinary pocha (casual Korean pub) ✨ By the time we were nearly done with the gochujang pork stew, the broth was richer than at the start. The flavor of the meat and zucchini had fully seeped into it, so the last few spoonfuls were actually the best haha 🤤 A piece of meat, a spoonful of broth, then another drink! That's exactly the routine 🍻

Personally, having been to a lot of bars in Jamsil, I've come across places where the anju looks pretty in photos but there's disappointingly little to actually eat. Jojomomo's gochujang pork stew definitely felt like "anju you eat." It's filling as a main for two, and if you come with a bigger group, adding other Korean dishes like jeon or suyuk to share around would be a good idea too.

It feels like the comfort of a Korean cooking bar plus the mood of the space, so if you love broth dishes like I do, the gochujang pork stew is a fine place to start 🥘 I only had the gochujang pork stew this time, but looking over the menu I got curious about the other jeon and suyuk options too 👀 If I visit again, I'd like to order a few more dishes and take my time enjoying them with some traditional liquor.
