## In short

Daehwa Sutbul Garden Siheung Janggok Branch is a Korean barbecue restaurant in Janggok-dong, Siheung, Gyeonggi. We enjoyed a 59,000 won Gyeongju-style marinated beef rib set with chicken cartilage meat, handmade sausage, seaweed soup, yukhoe, and kalguksu. I’d been craving beef ribs for a few days, so I looked for a decent meat restaurant near home. I heard there was a place in Janggok-dong where you can grill Gyeongju-style beef ribs over charcoal, so off we went!

The meat matters, of course, but when dining with family I also quietly pay attention to the atmosphere, parking, and staff service. Overall, it was a really satisfying meal.

## A comfortable atmosphere for a family meal

The restaurant was cleaner and more pleasant than I expected. There was enough separation between the tables that we didn’t have to pay much attention to the people beside us, and it was nice to chat comfortably as a family while we ate.

At a meat restaurant, I always worry a little about my clothes picking up the smell, but the ventilation was good, so it wasn’t much of an issue.

You can conveniently pick up any extra side dishes you need from the self-service bar, which I loved because there’s no need to feel self-conscious if you run short on banchan (Korean side dishes).

## What came with the Gyeongju-style freshly marinated beef rib platter

After some deliberation, we ordered the Gyeongju-style freshly marinated beef rib platter. It was ₩59,000, and when it first arrived, I was happy with how generously it was put together.

There was a wide variety of basic side dishes, too. If you eat nothing but meat, it can get a bit tiring, but the different accompaniments let us switch up the flavors as we went.

So this is why it’s famous in Janggok-dong! Then the beef ribs—the main event—arrived, and just looking at them made my mouth water.

The moment we put the meat over the charcoal, the sizzling sound and savory aroma filled the air. Meat really does taste best grilled over charcoal!

I heard that the beef ribs here aren’t marinated for a long time in advance; instead, they prepare them to order with their secret seasoning. Maybe that’s why the seasoning didn’t feel overpowering, and the beef’s own flavor still came through.

I tried a nicely browned piece of beef rib, and the tender texture with the lightly sweet seasoning really suited my taste.

The beef ribs were delicious on their own, but eating them with the various side dishes gave them a completely different feel.

## Trying beef ribs wrapped in a tortilla

I wanted to try something different, so I wrapped the beef ribs in a tortilla too, and surprisingly, it was a great combination. I’d never thought to eat beef ribs this way before, so it was fun to enjoy them in a new style.

![A different way to enjoy beef ribs with accompaniments](https://img.superchart.com/images/siheung-janggok-charcoal-galbi-course/siheung-janggok-charcoal-galbi-course-20-1pacz-966.webp)

The chicken cartilage meat included in the set had a distinctly different, pleasantly chewy texture from the beef ribs. Having a piece here and there kept us from getting tired of the meal, and I kept reaching for more.

And the handmade sausage, which I ate without much expectation, was tastier than I thought. It was springy and felt nicely filled, so the kids loved it too!!! More than anything, I really liked how the set was put together.

## Seaweed soup, yukhoe, and kalguksu too

The seaweed soup was so delicious~ The kids kept asking for more because they liked it, so we got refills again and again!!!

![Refilled seaweed soup](https://img.superchart.com/images/siheung-janggok-charcoal-galbi-course/siheung-janggok-charcoal-galbi-course-23-318zn-966.webp)

A tasting portion of yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) came out too, and it was so good!!!! I love yukhoe with chamnamul (Korean parsley), and its tender, nutty flavor absolutely hit the spot!

![Tasting yukhoe with chamnamul](https://img.superchart.com/images/siheung-janggok-charcoal-galbi-course/siheung-janggok-charcoal-galbi-course-24-u4nqo-966.webp)

It wasn’t just meat—the set even included kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup). The broth was warm and the portion was generous, so it made the meal really filling.

After the beef rib platter and kalguksu, we were completely stuffed and laughed, saying we simply couldn’t eat another bite.

## A family meal finished with ice cream

But after we finished eating, there was even ice cream for dessert. You know how sweet dessert somehow still fits even when you’re full, haha. The ice cream blended red bean and injeolmi (roasted soybean rice cake) flavors, and it felt like it neatly cleared away the richness after all that meat.

Overall, it was a comfortable place for a meal, from the food selection and restaurant atmosphere to the service. If you enjoy charcoal-grilled beef ribs, I think Daehwa Sutbul Garden in Janggok-dong would be a lovely place to visit with family. I’m sure it would also be a good choice for anyone deciding on a family meal out or a weekend dinner menu, just like us!!!!

Next time, I’d like to order the uni or yukhoe dishes we didn’t get to try this time and sample more of the menu. Daehwa Sutbul Garden Siheung Janggok Branch, a Janggok-dong favorite where we enjoyed everything from beef ribs and sides to kalguksu and dessert—it had been a while since we left a meal so full and happy, so I think I’ll return the next time I crave beef ribs :-)
