Today I'm sharing my review of Mirimyangjang Seocho, a restaurant that's become known as a date spot and a go-to for group dinners around Seocho and Gyodae. If you're looking for proper Chinese food near Seocho-dong, pay attention — this one's a must!!

## Where is Mirimyangjang Seocho and how do you find the entrance?

Mirimyangjang Seocho is marked by a red sign you'll spot after a short walk from Exit 11 of Seocho Station. It's very much the classic Chinese restaurant look — red, with the name written in Chinese characters — so just look for that.

Once you go down the stairs, you'll see the same sign on your right — that's the main entrance! If you come in through the building itself, take the elevator down to B1 and there's a side door (?) you can use too, which also seemed to work fine.

Walking into the main entrance, their signature Peking duck is displayed right there in full view. The duck was bigger than I expected!! Honestly, I'd only had Peking duck once, at a hotel, way back when I was a kid, and never since — I always assumed it was an expensive dish only sold at places like hotels, so I never really sought it out.

## Weekday evening mood and private rooms: why Mirimyangjang suits group dinners

Mirimyangjang Seocho offers a half-portion of duck, which makes it much less intimidating for a two-person visit. Instead of only selling whole ducks, they also do halves, so two people can eat without breaking the bank — I loved that. The menu is diverse too, and given the neighborhood and the restaurant's upscale feel, the prices felt very reasonable.

The vibe was sleek, black, and upscale. I visited on a Wednesday (weekday) at 8pm, and there were a lot of group dinners and gatherings happening. That tells you it's a solid spot in Seocho for meetups and company dinners.

Not just the tables but all the private rooms were full too, with people in every single one, so I couldn't take photos of the room interiors myself, sadly. So I've borrowed some interior shots the restaurant itself provided haha. They're private, and the interior design is genuinely gorgeous.

## Ordering by QR code, paying at the counter after the meal

You order via a QR code attached to the table. Payment happens at the counter after you've eaten, so no need to worry about paying upfront. Every menu item comes with a photo, and everyone can browse the menu on their own phone — a pretty convenient system haha. QR ordering seems to be popping up more and more these days!

What we ordered:

- Half Peking duck – ₩35,000
- Mapo tofu – ₩19,000
- Ohyangjangyuk – ₩16,000

Pretty reasonable prices, right?! At most Chinese restaurants, the specialty dishes tend to run expensive, so I appreciated that Mirimyangjang wasn't overly pricey. Plus, the pancakes and vegetables that come with the Peking duck were refillable for free!

Side dishes included pickled bean sprouts and sugared peanuts (?), which were great for cleansing the palate. Also worth noting: the chopsticks look like wooden ones but are actually plastic (?), so no worries there haha.

## Half Peking duck, 35,000 won: start with the crisp skin

Finally, the star of the show — Peking duck (₩35,000). It comes with julienned cucumber and scallion. The pancakes arrive piping hot in a steamer basket too. And they're individually wrapped, so they don't stick together — nice and hygienic!

It had been so long since I'd had Peking duck… I nearly lost it haha. I'd recommend eating the crispy skin on its own first, before anything else!! It was still hot weather out so the AC was blasting, which meant it cooled off pretty fast though.

Doesn't the skin look incredibly crispy?! It really was, and the moment you bite in, the fat spreads through and that nutty, savory flavor is out of this world.. Confirmed Seocho hotspot, jealous of all the Gyodae students!! Definitely eat the skin first!!

Next, we wrapped the meat portions in the pancakes. You lay one pancake from the steamer on a plate, add scallion, cucumber, meat, top it with sauce, and wrap it up! Genuinely delicious,,,,,

## Mapo tofu, 19,000 won: soft tofu with mala spice

Next up, the mapo tofu we ordered! As a Korean, you can't skip something spicy and rich,, I figured just the Peking duck alone might feel a bit plain, so I ordered mapo tofu alongside it. I've been cutting carbs lately, so we didn't order rice separately haha (rice is sold separately!!). But this really tasted like something you'd want to spoon over rice,, Even eaten on its own it went down so easily, I bet it would have been even better with rice!!!! You have to order the mapo tofu too!!

The tofu wasn't regular tofu but silken tofu, so it was great to just slurp down. It felt almost like eating soup, and it was perfect for scooping up with a spoon!! There was also that mala spice flavor coming through. If you're into mala, this will be irresistible..

## Ohyangjangyuk, 16,000 won: cold five-spice beef shank

Originally we'd only planned to order the Peking duck and mapo tofu, but while browsing other menu items out of curiosity, I spotted a dish called ohyangjangyuk. I'd never heard of it before, and wanted to try something new, so I ordered it! It's beef shank that's been parboiled and tossed with Mirimyangjang's special secret sauce! I assumed it would be served warm, but it turned out to be a cold dish haha.

The meat was really tender, and this one felt more like a salad, served alongside vegetables! The sauce had that distinct Chinese spice flavor with a hint of heat!! (This dish might be a bit polarizing depending on how you feel about that spice profile.) Unlike me, who ate it last, I think this one is better enjoyed at the start of the meal haha.

We ordered three dishes between the two of us!! We left completely stuffed haha.

## Where are the restrooms and what condition are they in?

For reference, the restroom at Mirimyangjang Seocho is right past the emergency exit door (toward the lobby with the elevator) haha. As someone who considers restrooms a serious factor when reviewing restaurants — especially when there's food you eat with your hands, I always check the handwashing situation first haha. Mirimyangjang Seocho's restroom was clean, had soap, and overall it was a great spot in every way~!!
