I had a trip to another region for the first time in a while, so I stopped by Gwangju Songjeong Station. Usually when I go to Songjeong Station I drive, park nearby, and head straight for the train, but this time I had some time before departure, so I decided to grab lunch first.

Going far out wasn't really an option, so I looked for something simple but filling inside the station and ended up at Gaeryeong Gukbap. If you're looking for good gukbap near Songjeong Station, it's a solid spot for a meal before boarding.

Gwangju Songjeong Station itself isn't huge, so it wasn't hard to find restaurants or cafés — even on a first visit, I found this place fairly easily. What I liked most was not having to leave the station at all. Moving around with luggage or a carrier can be a hassle, so being able to eat right inside the station was great.

You can take as many side dishes as you like from the self-serve bar. Chives, cheongyang chili peppers, kimchi, and kkakdugi (radish kimchi) were all set out, so you can grab whatever suits your taste. I love chives and cheongyang chili peppers with my gukbap, so I loaded up. It was convenient being able to help myself to exactly as much as I wanted.

I piled in plenty of the chives from the self-serve bar along with cheongyang chili peppers.

Adding the cheongyang chili peppers gave the broth a slight kick and made it taste even cleaner, which I liked. Eaten with rice, it was hearty and satisfying as a lunch.
