## In short

Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang Bucheon Main Branch is a second-floor Korean restaurant with a yard parking lot in the Gachiul dining area of Bucheon, Gyeonggi. At a weekday lunch the writer ordered two Tteuranchae Bapsang set meals at 13,000 won each plus a borigulbi (dried yellow croaker) at 18,000 won, and got about 12 namul (seasoned vegetable) side dishes, a light cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) and hot-pot rice, then mixed bibimbap with yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi) from the self-serve corner. With banchan and rice refilled without limit, Gim Myeongju is an easy pick for a family gathering or birthday meal in Bucheon.

I visited during weekday lunch hours in Gachiul, and the parking lot was full, with some people relaxing over coffee in the yard after their meal.

## How many side dishes? A table of 12 namul at Gim Myeongju

The moment the neat side dishes arrived, I couldn't help but go wow!

![Basic banchan spread for the Tteuranchae Bapsang set](https://img.superchart.com/images/kkachiul-tteuranchae-bapsang-bibimbap-lunch/kkachiul-tteuranchae-bapsang-bibimbap-lunch-06-hrlvf-1200.webp)

As soon as I saw the basic banchan, I got the instant sense — these were made today, and made to be finished today!

![Plates of namul dishes like doraji-muchim and siraegi-namul](https://img.superchart.com/images/kkachiul-tteuranchae-bapsang-bibimbap-lunch/kkachiul-tteuranchae-bapsang-bibimbap-lunch-07-q9cfl-966.webp)

Doraji-muchim (seasoned bellflower root), siraegi-namul (dried radish green namul), garlic scapes, braised potatoes, gochu-muchim (seasoned peppers), steamed perilla leaves, eggplant gangjeong (glazed eggplant), braised burdock root, chwinamul (aster greens), japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), baechu kimchi (napa cabbage kimchi), and lettuce with ssamjang (dipping sauce) — all neat and perfectly seasoned.

The baechu kimchi came out as a long uncut piece you could slice yourself; it was fresh geotjeori (unfermented kimchi) that wasn't too salty, so it was easy to keep eating.

## Borigulbi for 18,000 won, eaten over rice steeped in green tea

The borigulbi we added on was bigger than expected, and its dried fishy aroma wasn't overpowering, so even I, trying it for the first time, could enjoy it.

![Additional order of borigulbi as an à la carte dish](https://img.superchart.com/images/kkachiul-tteuranchae-bapsang-bibimbap-lunch/kkachiul-tteuranchae-bapsang-bibimbap-lunch-09-nnz6s-900.webp)

![Borigulbi flesh picked apart from the bone](https://img.superchart.com/images/kkachiul-tteuranchae-bapsang-bibimbap-lunch/kkachiul-tteuranchae-bapsang-bibimbap-lunch-10-1h5qg-966.webp)

![Rice steeped in green tea with borigulbi](https://img.superchart.com/images/kkachiul-tteuranchae-bapsang-bibimbap-lunch/kkachiul-tteuranchae-bapsang-bibimbap-lunch-11-to4n0-966.webp)

Pouring Boseong green tea over the rice and eating it that way covered up almost all of the fishy smell.

Eaten plain at first, it had a firm, chewy texture like jogi (croaker); I also wrapped it in lettuce and tried it in different ways.

Looking at it again, the freshness of the banchan makes this feel perfect for a holiday visit with your parents.

## Cheonggukjang stew and hot-pot rice at Gim Myeongju

The refillable cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) wasn't overly thick either — it was a light version that people of all ages could enjoy together.

It also had a generous amount of ingredients, which made it even more delicious.

![Refillable cheonggukjang stew pot with generous ingredients](https://img.superchart.com/images/kkachiul-tteuranchae-bapsang-bibimbap-lunch/kkachiul-tteuranchae-bapsang-bibimbap-lunch-15-1sm7l-900.webp)

The rice was served as hot-pot rice.

I poured in hot water and set it aside to keep enjoying my meal, then noticed a crowd at the self-serve corner and went to check it out.

## The self-serve corner: mixing bibimbap with yeolmu kimchi

![Self-serve corner with bowls, bibim sauce, and sesame oil](https://img.superchart.com/images/kkachiul-tteuranchae-bapsang-bibimbap-lunch/kkachiul-tteuranchae-bapsang-bibimbap-lunch-16-1rx5s-900.webp)
*The Gachiul restaurant's self-serve corner*

The shelf had bowls, bibim sauce, and sesame oil ready to go, so you could make your own bibimbap too.

Besides the basic banchan, rice was unlimited refill too!

![Self-serve bar with unlimited rice and side dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/kkachiul-tteuranchae-bapsang-bibimbap-lunch/kkachiul-tteuranchae-bapsang-bibimbap-lunch-17-1mcqz-900.webp)

The Gachiul restaurant's self-serve corner also had yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi) beyond the basic banchan served at the table.

With yeolmu kimchi right there, it would've been a shame not to mix a bowl — so I did right away. I piled unlimited refill rice from the self-serve corner, added various banchan, then topped it off with gochujang (red pepper paste) and sesame oil!

![Bibimbap topped with yeolmu kimchi and namul](https://img.superchart.com/images/kkachiul-tteuranchae-bapsang-bibimbap-lunch/kkachiul-tteuranchae-bapsang-bibimbap-lunch-19-1js8b-966.webp)

Mixing it all up, it was genuinely delicious. My husband, who came with me, agreed and said we should bring both our parents next time.

Finally, the classic Korean dessert nurungji (scorched rice) turned out great too, and I scraped it up together with the leftover borigulbi.

![Dessert nurungji with leftover borigulbi](https://img.superchart.com/images/kkachiul-tteuranchae-bapsang-bibimbap-lunch/kkachiul-tteuranchae-bapsang-bibimbap-lunch-23-kfkib-900.webp)

On the way out, I noticed they also sell the neatly prepared banchan to take home, along with coffee for dessert.
