## In short

Myeon Sikdang Godeok Station Branch is a Japanese restaurant near Godeok Station in Gangdong, Seoul that serves ramen, rice bowls and tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) in one place. A single visit covered tonkotsu ramen, the buta-don set, loin tonkatsu and cheese katsu (2p): the pork-bone broth was classically rich, and the loin tonkatsu arrived with five accompaniments — wasabi, cumin, pink salt, spicy tonkatsu sauce and regular tonkatsu sauce. The verdict on Myeon Sikdang Godeok Station Branch is that even with a long menu, nothing tastes like an afterthought.

## Myeon Sikdang Godeok Station Branch: a long menu, but is the quality there?

Myeon Sikdang Godeok Station Branch is a Japanese restaurant near Godeok Station that sells ramen, rice bowls, and tonkatsu all under one roof. The quality across the board was better than I expected.

![Storefront of Myeon Sikdang Godeok Station Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/myeonsikdang-godeok-tonkotsu-katsu-sauces/myeonsikdang-godeok-tonkotsu-katsu-sauces-01-1g59p-900.webp)

I ended up eating ramen, a rice bowl, and tonkatsu all in one sitting somehow, and none of them were disappointing. Solid flavors across the board. Maybe it's because I've been to too many places lately that half-heartedly call some weird broth 'ramen,' but this made me even more pleased haha.

This is a place with a diverse menu spanning ramen, rice bowls, and tonkatsu, yet the prices are quite affordable, and having tried it myself, the quality of each dish is genuinely good.

The menu is about as long as a gimbap (seaweed rice roll) diner's, but the quality still lands above average.

## Inside Myeon Sikdang: seating and the self-serve corner

The interior of Myeon Sikdang Godeok Station Branch is generally clean, which gives it a slight franchise-restaurant vibe. You can also get a free drink by leaving a Naver receipt review, so I'd recommend doing that.

There's a self-serve corner where you can freely grab udon broth, water, kimchi, and pickled radish. The side dishes are set up there, and they even keep them on ice to stay fresh. Nice touch, haha.

If you're eating alone and want to eat heartily, there are set menus you can easily add to, and even without a set you can just add individual items.

## What we ordered: tonkotsu ramen, buta-don set, loin tonkatsu, cheese katsu (2p)

This time we ordered tonkotsu ramen, the buta-don set, loin tonkatsu, and cheese katsu (2p).

Honestly, just looking at the spread, I already knew this was going to be a lot to get through.

### Tonkotsu ramen: how rich is the pork-bone broth?

Tonkotsu ramen. I've eaten way too many bowls lately made with sloppy bone broth and murky seasoning, so this felt like a proper, textbook tonkotsu after a long while. You get that distinctive richness of pork-bone broth, and the seasoning is spot on. There's also a subtle spicy kick, so it's plenty satisfying without adding anything extra.

![Close-up of thin noodles and bean sprouts in tonkotsu ramen](https://img.superchart.com/images/myeonsikdang-godeok-tonkotsu-katsu-sauces/myeonsikdang-godeok-tonkotsu-katsu-sauces-15-thqua-900.webp)

This tonkotsu ramen delivers pretty much everything you'd want from the style. Rich broth flavor, well-balanced seasoning, and the noodles and toppings pair nicely. They use thin noodles, and there's a generous amount of bean sprouts underneath. Eating the broth and noodles together and then biting into the crunchy sprouts adds a fun textural contrast. The onsen egg came out nicely soft-set, and I liked the chashu too. The pork belly is cut into squares and torched, giving it both a fatty pork richness and a smoky char flavor.

The tonkotsu ramen's rich pork-bone broth paired well with the noodle texture, and the buta-don's torched pork had an impressive smoky char.

![Stretchy mozzarella cheese katsu](https://img.superchart.com/images/myeonsikdang-godeok-tonkotsu-katsu-sauces/myeonsikdang-godeok-tonkotsu-katsu-sauces-17-1pupn-900.webp)

### Cheese katsu (2p)

The cheese katsu seems to be made by forming a single block of tonkatsu like a column, then cutting it in half. There's thick mozzarella cheese in the center, and one bite makes it stretch out long. The cheese wraps around the meat, giving it a rich savory flavor, and the cheese itself has a good chewy texture. It comes with regular tonkatsu sauce.

![Buta-don topped with soy-glazed pork](https://img.superchart.com/images/myeonsikdang-godeok-tonkotsu-katsu-sauces/myeonsikdang-godeok-tonkotsu-katsu-sauces-20-e1m75-900.webp)

### Buta-don set (pork rice bowl)

The buta-don is piled high with thin slices of pork simmered in soy sauce. Right before serving, it's torched one last time, so it comes out with a strong smoky aroma. The thin pork slices are well soaked in the soy seasoning, making them great with rice, and with the torched aroma added on top, it has noticeably more depth than a simple soy-braised rice bowl.

![Small bowl of buta-don served as part of the set](https://img.superchart.com/images/myeonsikdang-godeok-tonkotsu-katsu-sauces/myeonsikdang-godeok-tonkotsu-katsu-sauces-21-vplh9-900.webp)

Since it was ordered as part of a set, the portion isn't huge, but it was good dipped a bit into the ramen too.

![Loin tonkatsu served with cabbage salad and pickled burdock root](https://img.superchart.com/images/myeonsikdang-godeok-tonkotsu-katsu-sauces/myeonsikdang-godeok-tonkotsu-katsu-sauces-22-1lcxi-900.webp)

### Loin tonkatsu and its five dipping sauces

Loin tonkatsu. The presentation is quite clean. It comes with cabbage salad and pickled burdock root so you can focus on the meat, and the cabbage is topped with black sesame sauce. They also give you a whole lineup of sauces — wasabi, cumin salt, pink salt, spicy tonkatsu sauce, and regular tonkatsu sauce — so you can enjoy the one cutlet in several different combinations.

The loin cutlet is thicker than I expected. The breading is well made, so it's crispy to bite into, and you can properly taste the meat underneath. Personally, I found the regular tonkatsu sauce the most interesting. I assumed it would just be a basic sauce, but as I ate more, I picked up a subtle aroma like it had some kind of fruit — pineapple, maybe — mixed in, and I really liked that.
