## In short

Myeon Sikdang Godeok Station Branch is a Japanese restaurant in Gangdong, Seoul, near Godeok Station. We ordered spicy rib rice bowl with mini cold soba and handmade pork loin cutlet with cold soba on a weekday evening. The mild regular tonkatsu sauce and pickled chilies were the standouts.

There is a self-service bar by the entrance. You can help yourself to water, side dishes, and soup. There is even a mini fridge below with soft drinks! After ordering, just follow the owner's directions and pick up what you need.

## Set menus, from ramen to katsu

Here is the menu at Myeon Sikdang near Godeok Station. From ramen, pho, soba, udon, and rice bowls to katsu, there is a wide range of Japanese-style dishes. The set menus, paired with mini butadon or mini naengsoba (cold buckwheat noodles), looked good too, so my partner and I ordered sets!

## Spicy rib rice bowl and mini cold soba

At Myeon Sikdang near Godeok Station, this was the spicy rib rice bowl and mini cold soba my partner ordered.

![Spicy rib rice bowl topped with egg yolk](https://img.superchart.com/images/godeok-station-pork-cutlet-soba/godeok-station-pork-cutlet-soba-06-rq4zj-900.webp)

It came piled with thick ribs coated in spicy seasoning, topped with a bright yellow egg yolk.

I mixed the spicy seasoning with the yolk and had it with a piece of rib. For my partner and me, both weak with spicy food, it was quite hot and intense! The meat had a pleasantly chewy texture.

![Salad with black sesame dressing](https://img.superchart.com/images/godeok-station-pork-cutlet-soba/godeok-station-pork-cutlet-soba-08-1xgt4-900.webp)

The black sesame dressing salad that came alongside was perfect for calming the heat.

Pickled salted chilies next to the wasabi? Oh, what a special side dish! It was so, so good. Even with spicy rice, I kept reaching for it 💘

## Handmade pork loin katsu and cold soba

At Myeon Sikdang near Godeok Station, this was my handmade pork loin katsu and cold soba. There were so many choices that I debated for quite a while, but the combination of thick tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) and cold soba was too tempting!

The plate held crisp, thick pork loin cutlet, cabbage salad with black sesame sauce, white rice, and pickled salted chilies.

![Two tonkatsu sauces and shichimi](https://img.superchart.com/images/godeok-station-pork-cutlet-soba/godeok-station-pork-cutlet-soba-12-1rzvb-900.webp)

They served two tonkatsu sauces to try: a spicy one and a regular one. Salt and wasabi were familiar enough, but can you see that orange powder? It was shichimi, a Japanese seven-spice blend! I had never dipped tonkatsu in it before, so I was very curious about this combination.

Tonkatsu just would not feel complete without danmuji (pickled yellow radish) and kimchi, right? With the side dishes I diligently brought from the self-service bar, I was all ready for tonkatsu!

Look at that beautifully crisp fried pork loin cutlet.

I loved its thick cut, too. I normally have my first bite with salt, but that day I was really craving sweet tonkatsu sauce, so I went straight for it! It was the familiar tonkatsu sauce flavor, but a little less intense. I liked that it was not overly sweet or salty.

Taking a bite of mini cold soba in between was so refreshing. It was delicious enough to feel almost too good to be just a side! The broth was not too sweet, and the soba noodles were springy and chewy, making me want to try soba as the main dish. It really made me think, ah, this is a noodle restaurant after all 👍 Next time, I am going for soba!

I also dipped it in my favorite combination, salt and wasabi. So clean and delicious.

And now, the long-awaited shichimi 👀 I had sprinkled and mixed shichimi into noodle soups or rice bowls before, but had never dipped something into it. This was such a special treat! It had a slightly funky, distinctive aroma, with a little bit of a Mexican feel and added spice—so tasty, haha.

And in between, I kept drinking that chewy, refreshing soba.

My number-one combination for the handmade pork loin katsu at Myeon Sikdang near Godeok Station that day was the regular tonkatsu sauce, haha. Looking at the photos, I had dipped into it the most. The classic one suited it best: a solid, straightforward flavor. So good 👍

I cannot leave out these pickled salted chilies, a true special treat among special treats. They went well with everything—the tonkatsu, rice bowl, and soba, haha. These spicy-sweet, pickle-like chilies alone are reason enough for me to return to Myeon Sikdang 😋
