## In short

Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu is a house-made noodle restaurant serving makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles) and kalguksu on Hoguk-ro in Wondang, Goyang, Gyeonggi. Arriving right at opening with his parents, the writer ordered the half suyuk plate (boiled pork, 12,000 won), a half meat and half kimchi mandu, perilla buckwheat makguksu and warm makguksu, starting the meal with hot buckwheat tea from the self-serve corner. With a large dedicated parking lot and an unhurried dining hall, Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu is an easy Wondang pick for a meal at any age.

With mornings and evenings turning noticeably cooler, autumn is clearly settling in. Since the weather had gotten a bit chilly and I wanted a filling meal with my parents, I headed to a local favorite in Wondang, Goyang. Here's my honest review of a self-made noodle spot where you can enjoy either cool makguksu or warm makguksu depending on your mood!

## Is parking easy at Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu in Wondang?

Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu is a self-made noodle restaurant at 1128 Hoguk-ro, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si. The dedicated parking area is huge, so you can drive over without worrying about a spot.

It's already pretty well known in the neighborhood, so there's apparently a wait around lunchtime — I played it safe and went right at opening.

This Wondang favorite in Goyang has an incredibly spacious dedicated parking lot. There's so much room that even nervous drivers can pull in without stress, haha.

## Inside the dining hall at Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu

The dining hall is much bigger and more comfortable than I expected. The tables are spaced generously, so sitting down with my parents felt relaxed.

The tables are well spaced apart, and everything is kept neat and tidy — an easygoing atmosphere to come and eat in.

## Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu menu and prices

The menu is simple. Makguksu (buckwheat noodles) is ₩11,000, suyuk (boiled pork) is ₩23,000, and a half portion is ₩12,000.

![Self-serve aprons for customers](https://img.superchart.com/images/wondang-makguksu-half-pork-buckwheat-tea/wondang-makguksu-half-pork-buckwheat-tea-09-10lav-966.webp)
*Aprons, self-serve*

- Mul makguksu / Bibim makguksu ₩11,000
- Warm makguksu / Perilla buckwheat makguksu ₩11,000
- Suyuk ₩23,000
- Suyuk (half) ₩12,000
- Buckwheat pancake ₩9,000
- Mandu (meat, kimchi, shrimp) ₩9,000

It was a little chilly since we came in the morning, so I ordered the warm makguksu. Aprons are also set out for self-service use.

## Free self-serve buckwheat tea before the meal

The signature touch at Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu is the warm buckwheat tea at the self-serve corner. Water and extra side dishes are also self-serve, and you can refill the tea as much as you like.

*Water and extra side dishes are also self-serve*

And this place's own little kick... it's the warm, freshly brewed buckwheat tea, which is also used as the noodle water! You can grab it yourself at the self-serve corner and refill as much as you want, haha.

Drinking the warm buckwheat tea, with its deep, toasty aroma, as a kind of appetizer before the meal was just right. It gently warmed my stomach while still carrying rich flavor — I really enjoyed it.

## Half suyuk plate and half meat, half kimchi mandu

For sides, we ordered the half portion of bossam (suyuk) at ₩12,000 and mandu at ₩9,000. You can choose the mandu filling from meat, kimchi, or shrimp, and since meat and kimchi can be split half-and-half, that's what we went with.

![Side dishes set out first at the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/wondang-makguksu-half-pork-buckwheat-tea/wondang-makguksu-half-pork-buckwheat-tea-12-sqbaq-966.webp)

The side dishes were set down first, followed by the hearty bossam half portion and the mandu we'd ordered.

![Half portion of suyuk at Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/wondang-makguksu-half-pork-buckwheat-tea/wondang-makguksu-half-pork-buckwheat-tea-13-wcf57-966.webp)

![Plate of tender bossam pork](https://img.superchart.com/images/wondang-makguksu-half-pork-buckwheat-tea/wondang-makguksu-half-pork-buckwheat-tea-14-12m43-966.webp)

Having a half-portion option on the menu was great for trying a variety of dishes without feeling like too much. The pork had no gamey smell at all, tender yet light — a great way to load up on protein before the main course, haha.

![Buckwheat mandu ordered half meat, half kimchi](https://img.superchart.com/images/wondang-makguksu-half-pork-buckwheat-tea/wondang-makguksu-half-pork-buckwheat-tea-15-9e87s-966.webp)

You could choose from meat, kimchi, or shrimp mandu, and since meat-kimchi half-and-half was possible, that's what we picked! Personally it suited my taste the most, and it pairs really well with the makguksu — I think I'd order it again next time.

It comes with salted shrimp sauce for dipping the bossam and soy sauce for the mandu.

## House-made perilla buckwheat makguksu and warm makguksu

The mains are perilla buckwheat makguksu and warm makguksu, each ₩11,000. Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu makes its noodles in-house, so there's real care put into every strand.

![Bowl of house-made perilla buckwheat makguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/wondang-makguksu-half-pork-buckwheat-tea/wondang-makguksu-half-pork-buckwheat-tea-17-bj04h-966.webp)

And finally, the star dish — makguksu! This place sticks to making its noodles fresh in-house, so the noodles themselves carry that care all the way through.

![Close-up of perilla broth and buckwheat noodles](https://img.superchart.com/images/wondang-makguksu-half-pork-buckwheat-tea/wondang-makguksu-half-pork-buckwheat-tea-18-1u8hq-966.webp)

The perilla buckwheat makguksu had that distinctive short, snappable bite of house-made noodles along with a full buckwheat aroma — outstanding. The deep perilla flavor almost felt like an early taste of winter?! It worked great as a brunch too.

![Warm makguksu enjoyed on a chilly day](https://img.superchart.com/images/wondang-makguksu-half-pork-buckwheat-tea/wondang-makguksu-half-pork-buckwheat-tea-20-1ga4d-966.webp)

The warm makguksu was a perfect match for this slightly chilly weather, with a clean flavor my dad thoroughly enjoyed. That broth was probably the same buckwheat tea we drank as noodle water earlier — haha!

Looking around at the regulars, some people sat down and ordered makguksu without even glancing at the menu. Very much the scene of a true local favorite in Goyang's Ilsan area, haha. Whenever you're craving makguksu, this is the Wondang spot to remember: Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu!

That was my review of a hearty family meal with my parents at Bongpyeong Gohyang Makguksu, one of Wondang's most highly regarded restaurants. A place where you can properly enjoy carefully hand-mixed and hand-cut noodles along with a comforting bowl of buckwheat tea. It's a true local favorite in Goyang and a Wondang spot that suits any age or taste — I highly recommend stopping by.
