A Gangneung sashimi restaurant I have to recommend — Samsami-ne Gyeongpodae Main Branch. A great spot for takeout sashimi, and it was genuinely so good! 🐟

## Why I took out sashimi at Gyeongpo, Gangneung

When you're in Gangneung, you have to eat sashimi! This time we stayed at Shilla Monogram Gangneung and had takeout sashimi in the room for dinner. But since we'd come all the way to Gangneung, an ordinary sashimi place felt like a letdown, so I went out of my way to find this one — here's my honest, real review of the takeout from Samsami-ne Gyeongpodae Main Branch. They sell red sea bream yubiki (thin-sliced with hot oil) and other cuts you can't easily find elsewhere.

A sashimi restaurant running on 25 years of preparation know-how! People say once you try it you keep coming back, so I made a reservation ahead of time and went to pick it up. Naver Reservations works too, so I'd recommend booking in advance.

## Location and parking

📍 Located right on the main street of Gyeongpo Beach. Honestly, the location alone is a steal. Everyone who comes to Gangneung stops by Gyeongpo Beach, right? Having a sashimi place right in front of the water was such a treat. And no, that doesn't mean tourist-trap pricing — the prices are very reasonable and totally painless.

🅿️ The beach parking lot across from the restaurant is spacious with plenty of room! No matter how good a restaurant is, if parking is a hassle I honestly don't want to go — am I the only one like that? Parking convenience matters a lot to me, and this place absolutely delivers on that front.

### Samsami-ne Gyeongpodae Main Branch hours

⏰ Thursday to Tuesday, 11:30–23:00, closed every Wednesday. Open from lunch until late evening every day except Wednesday, so keep that in mind. We picked up our order on a weekday evening.

Turnover is fast here so the fish is fresh and the tanks are well maintained. The tanks were clean, which made it even easier to trust the order.

## What we ordered — budget assorted sashimi + mulhoe set for two, ₩70,000

✔️ Budget assorted sashimi + mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) set for two, ₩70,000. They sell a wide range of menus, but since we were taking out to eat simply, we went with the budget option. Their famous red sea bream yubiki would've been great too, but I went with the basic set this time. Next time I definitely want to try the red sea bream yubiki.

A go-to Gangneung sashimi restaurant for takeout, Samsami-ne Gyeongpodae Main Branch. Since its days as Kim-gun Bak-gun Sashimi, plenty of celebrities have come through, so I felt confident ordering. Being such a well-known spot with frequent celebrity visits, I was excited going into the takeout order.

The dining hall is quite spacious and has a sea view, so plenty of people were eating in. We had a young baby with us so we had no choice but to take it out and enjoy it at the hotel, but if you'd rather eat somewhere clean and proper, I'd recommend the dining hall too.

## Unpacking it at the hotel: condition and contents

Let me give you the real taste review of the takeout from this Gangneung sashimi restaurant, Samsami-ne Gyeongpodae Main Branch. First off, the packaging was super clean, which I liked, and once the baby was asleep and we'd clocked out of parenting for the night, the sashimi party began. It had been so long since I'd had fresh live-fish sashimi (I got emotional 🥹)

It's the budget set, but the contents are absolutely not budget! The standard set has more side dishes, but the budget set feels focused purely on the sashimi and the essential ingredients — simple, but the composition is great.

First off, the sashimi comes out genuinely piled high. It's cut thick, a totally different league from paper-thin slices. Chewy and firm — just looking at it you know it's going to be good.

They even included thin noodles for the mulhoe and vinegared rice for making your own self-serve sushi — that made enjoying the sashimi even better. I personally love sushi, and putting sashimi on this rice to make sushi myself was so, so good.

On top of that, there were lettuce wraps, seasoned vegetables, and various sauces to enjoy alongside the sashimi. Despite being the budget set, it wasn't just sashimi and nothing else — all the essentials were covered 🖤

### How generous was the complimentary mulhoe?

The complimentary mulhoe was refreshing and genuinely generous in portion! Honestly I didn't expect much since it wasn't the main dish, but there was a good amount of fish in it and the overall portion of mulhoe was large too, so we got to enjoy it fully. If the budget set is this generous, I can't imagine how much more generous and delicious the standard set must be 💫

## How was the sashimi itself

Even dipped in nothing but soy sauce, the sashimi was delicious — that got me. My sister and I hadn't had sashimi in ages, so we dug in with high hopes, and this place delivered. Zero staleness or mushiness, just chewy, clean, and nutty — genuinely moving.

Since it's an assorted platter, the exact lineup may shift slightly day to day depending on the season, so keep that in mind. I was totally happy with the composition we got — I don't usually fuss over which fish is which, as long as it's delicious, and this place is fresh and delicious. A seaside sashimi restaurant really is different.

The price is budget, but the taste is absolutely not budget! No need to worry that the budget assorted sashimi will disappoint on flavor. It's just straight-up delicious. They simply simplified some of the other components to sell a leaner, budget-friendly set — and maybe that's exactly why the sashimi tasted so good.

Pile sashimi on the sushi rice like this, dip it lightly in soy sauce, and you've got real, delicious sushi ⋰˚★ Better than plenty of actual sushi restaurants — hard to believe, right? Looking at these photos makes me want to eat it all over again.

If you're looking for a Gangneung sashimi restaurant to recommend for takeout, I really want to recommend Samsami-ne Gyeongpodae Main Branch! The portion and composition for the price are great, and above all, it's delicious. Delicious is what matters most. Somewhere I'd love to stop by again next time I'm in Gangneung. It had been a while since I'd had such fresh, delicious sashimi, and I enjoyed every bit of it :)
