The mains included plain jokbal, garlic jokbal, and spicy fire jokbal, but there were also generous-looking sets like the Emperor's Jokbal! That retro lunchbox especially... I haven't seen many places selling that lately... it looked so good! Start with kimchi kalguksu, then taste the jokbal on its own first, then try it with ssamjang (thick soybean paste), salted shrimp, and mala sauce, and finish with salad to cut through the richness...! They let it boil hard, and once the seasoning was just right, they added the kalguksu (hand-cut knife noodles) into it. Ah man... this is genuinely a hidden gem I think... the kimchi kalguksu is surprisingly delicious. It paired really well with the jokbal too. The broth was spicy and cut through the richness nicely! And alongside it came the salted shrimp, mala sauce, and ssamjang! Wow... mala sauce with jokbal. Genuinely never expected that combination. At first I was like, huh, what's that, but after tasting it, it had a full mala flavor without being too intense — just the right amount of tasty for dipping!! I guess with so many Chinese tourists in Myeongdong, and young people these days loving mala flavors, they tailored it to that taste...! It was genuinely delicious. The meat itself was really soft too! Next I ate it with the dried radish strips I love, and the radish was so good I asked for more, and they brought me a real heaping bowl!! I ate without limit.. genuinely got to eat until full! The Emperor's Jokbal, tender meat with such a generous spread! Truly a table fit for an emperor, living up to its name haha. Eating it with two people, we really got to eat until stuffed.. and on top of that, the kimchi kalguksu! Genuinely a great combination. I think I'll be coming back whenever I want jokbal or a late-night meal in Myeongdong haha.
