## In short

Hanuk is a Korean-concept cocktail bar in a basement on Samil-daero 19-gil in Jongno 3-ga, Seoul. After a first round of grilled pork belly and soju-beer at a Jongno 3-ga street tent, this visit took the bar seats at Hanuk for a welcome drink, a four-whisky tasting, ginseng liquor, and cocktails served in black ceramic cups. Hanuk works well as a second-round date course that flips the mood 180 degrees after a heavy dinner.

It was one of those days where eating grilled pork belly in Jongno 3-ga and just going home felt like a waste. For round one we'd had grilled pork belly, pork neck, and even fried rice at an outdoor street tent, plus a proper glass of soju-beer.

Stuffed as we were, coming all the way out to Jongno 3-ga and heading straight home felt wrong somehow, haha. But we didn't want another loud, rowdy bar for round two, so we decided to flip the mood entirely. That's how we ended up at Hanuk (하눅, HA NOOK), a cocktail bar in Jongno.

Bottom line up front: grilled pork belly at a street tent, then cocktails at a moody bar — this combo turned out way better than expected. If you're wondering where to go for a second-round date in Jongno, this one's worth remembering.

## Hanuk, a Jongno cocktail bar that switches the mood at the door

Hanuk sits in a basement on Samil-daero 19-gil, tucked past the bustling streets of Jongno 3-ga. Even the HA NOOK sign at the entrance already feels calm and composed.

![The HA NOOK sign at Hanuk's basement entrance](https://img.superchart.com/images/jongno-cocktail-bar-hanook-second-round-date/jongno-cocktail-bar-hanook-second-round-date-03-1supg-900.webp)

Walking inside, the shift in mood was so drastic I almost didn't recognize myself as the same person who'd just been grilling pork belly and drinking soju-beer, haha. The name Hanuk combines Harmony and Nook, meaning a 'harmonious, cozy space.' It layers Korean beauty on top of Western liquor and cocktail culture, so it felt different from a typical Jongno bar.

![Hanuk's interior with low lighting and wood tones](https://img.superchart.com/images/jongno-cocktail-bar-hanook-second-round-date/jongno-cocktail-bar-hanook-second-round-date-04-nu7t6-900.webp)

![Shelves of liquor lined up behind Hanuk's bar](https://img.superchart.com/images/jongno-cocktail-bar-hanook-second-round-date/jongno-cocktail-bar-hanook-second-round-date-05-1faq6-900.webp)

The lighting is low and everything is wood-toned, so it feels calm — with a wall of different liquors lined up behind the bar setting a proper date mood. We sat at the bar, and honestly, I'd recommend the bar seats at Hanuk specifically. You get to watch the drinks being made and hear explanations as you sip, which made it much more fun.

## Hanuk's menu: Korean names like Chamoe and Chusu

Hanuk's full menu is accessible via QR code. It's divided into cocktails, snacks, whisky tour, and spirits, and the cocktails themselves come in Original, Chagyeong, and Classic categories.

On a first visit they recommend a signature cocktail, or you can tell them what you usually like and get a personalized recommendation. Even the menu names were fun — chamoe (Korean melon), chusu (harvest), and other items evoking Korean ingredients and seasons made just browsing the menu enjoyable.

Hanuk's charm wasn't just borrowing a hanok-style interior — it actually weaves Korean stories into the cocktails themselves.

## Welcome drink, snacks and a portable charger at Hanuk

Once we sat down at Hanuk, small snacks arrived along with a welcome drink. Even the way it was neatly served on a small tray already screamed Hanuk's whole vibe.

It was different from the start compared to most cocktail bars I've been to, and I thought, 'Oh, this place is actually pretty fun.' A subtly thoughtful touch: they had portable chargers ready to lend. By the time you hit a second round of drinks and photos, your phone battery is usually running on fumes, haha — having that covered made things easy.

## Four-whisky tasting at Hanuk, with 15ml half pours

What stuck with me most from this visit was the whisky tasting. Four dedicated glasses lined up on the bar — just seeing that lineup was exciting, haha.

We got to compare small pours of four different whiskies side by side. Even if you don't know much about whisky normally, tasting them one after another made the differences in aroma and flavor noticeably clearer, which was fun. They also showed us the actual bottles while explaining, so it felt more like an experience than just ordering a drink.

Whisky can also be ordered as a half pour (15ml), which is great if you want to try several kinds. If you're looking to do something a bit different on a Jongno date, this kind of whisky tasting is a fun option.

## The ginseng liquor with a whole root in the bottle

Then a drink showed up that stole all the attention — a whole ginseng root sitting inside the bottle. The bottle itself had such a strong Korean feel that I couldn't not take a photo, haha.

Being at Hanuk, I realized the Korean concept isn't limited to interior design. From the ingredients in the drinks to the glassware to the plating, everything ties into one concept, which made it fun just to look around.

## Hanuk cocktails in black ceramic cups with bamboo plating

My favorite visual of the night at Hanuk! A cocktail arrived in a black ceramic cup instead of the usual glass cocktail glass, and I started taking photos the second it appeared.

![A Hanuk cocktail served in a black ceramic cup](https://img.superchart.com/images/jongno-cocktail-bar-hanook-second-round-date/jongno-cocktail-bar-hanook-second-round-date-15-7dgdg-900.webp)

It came plated on a wooden tray with grains scattered around, and there was even a cute little face drawn on the foam :) It felt less like a cocktail and more like a tiny dessert course. Holding the cup and drinking it made for pretty great photos too.

Another drink arrived with bamboo, giving off a completely different atmosphere. At Hanuk, the glassware and plating change with every menu item, which made it fun to anticipate what would come out next.

![Different glassware and plating for each Hanuk menu item](https://img.superchart.com/images/jongno-cocktail-bar-hanook-second-round-date/jongno-cocktail-bar-hanook-second-round-date-17-1x6h5-900.webp)

So this wasn't just a Jongno cocktail bar to grab a drink — it felt more like a space to enjoy an experience alongside the drinking.

## Why grilled pork belly in Jongno 3-ga then Hanuk works as round two

What I personally liked about this course was how completely different the moods of round one and round two were. Round one was all bustling Jongno energy — grilling pork belly and drinking soju-beer at a street tent — while round two moved to Hanuk, sitting at a quiet bar sipping whisky and cocktails slowly. Grilled pork belly → cocktails.

You'd think these wouldn't go together at all, but once we tried it, the combo was surprisingly great, haha. Especially after eating a heavy dinner, having a cocktail and chatting felt much better than tackling more heavy snacks for round two. It also seems like a natural course to move into on a blind date or a date where round one went well and you want just one more drink together.

## Looking for a second-round spot for a Jongno date?

Jongno has countless bars and pubs, but what stuck with me about Hanuk was how it wove Korean elements into cocktails and whisky. There's fun in choosing from the menu, seeing what glass and plating shows up, and comparing different whiskies side by side.

Maybe because we came straight from grilled pork belly at a Jongno 3-ga street tent, I especially loved how the mood flipped 180 degrees. If you're looking for a Jongno cocktail bar and want more than just drinks — a proper experience — this one is worth keeping in mind.

Just like us, if you've had dinner in Jongno 3-ga and want to switch the mood for a second-round date, this fits perfectly.
