There's a place you just have to stop by when you visit Sokcho — Sokcho Jungang Market! There's so much food inside the market that it's hard to decide what to eat, and this time I stopped by Sokcho Jungang Market and picked up garlic dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken) to go from Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip.

Sokcho is so famous for dakgangjeong that as you browse the food stalls at Sokcho Jungang Market, you see tons of dakgangjeong shops, right?!?! So let me recommend one with a nice twist!

## Where is Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip, and when is it open?

Head deeper into the market toward the cluster of dakgangjeong shops and it's not hard to find.

Out front you can see the dakgangjeong and all sorts of fritter menus lined up, so your eyes naturally drift over as you pass by. It has the longest line too, haha.

Above all, Sokcho Jungang Market has so much food that it's fun to just browse around, but with the smell of dakgangjeong wafting through the air, it's hard to just walk past, haha. How could you walk past this visual... it just doesn't make sense, haha. Walk right past it and it's basically a life sentence...

## Ordering dakgangjeong, fritters and sikhye in one stop

Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip really has a huge variety of dakgangjeong, and since they also sell fritters right next door, you can order everything at once and save time on your trip!

This is another nice little treat, haha — sikhye (sweet rice punch)! The sweet pumpkin sikhye especially has really good sweetness.

They also sell a wide range of fritters. Of course we ordered squid sundae (blood sausage) too, haha. We actually found the nurungji (crispy rice) fritter to be the real hidden gem, haha.

The shrimp dakgangjeong looked intriguing too, but we went with garlic dakgangjeong to cut through the richness!!

They even sell it in cups like this. Great for filling up while browsing the market, haha.

Since they run the fritter counter too, you can order sets as well!!!

While browsing around the market this time, I ended up picking up dakgangjeong along with everything else — after all, you can't skip dakgangjeong on a Sokcho trip, haha. Packing it up before heading back to your accommodation is great for a simple evening snack, and it also works well as a travel snack throughout the day, haha. Honestly, in the car on the way to the room... I couldn't resist the smell and pulled out a few pieces, true story.

## How does the garlic dakgangjeong taste?

Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip has a wide range of options, from basic boneless dakgangjeong to fried, half-half, soy honey dakgangjeong, garlic dakgangjeong, and deodeok dakgangjeong. Out of all of them, I chose the garlic dakgangjeong!

![A container of garlic dakgangjeong topped with garlic](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-garlic-dakgangjeong-takeout/sokcho-market-garlic-dakgangjeong-takeout-19-16ahh-966.webp)

![Close-up of the garlic dakgangjeong](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-garlic-dakgangjeong-takeout/sokcho-market-garlic-dakgangjeong-takeout-20-hv1rk-966.webp)

If you like garlic, this visual is hard to just pass up!!! There's a generous amount of garlic piled on top of the dakgangjeong along with nuts mixed in, giving it a bit of a different feel from regular dakgangjeong??!!

![Dakgangjeong mixed with garlic flakes and nuts](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-market-garlic-dakgangjeong-takeout/sokcho-market-garlic-dakgangjeong-takeout-21-usvvy-966.webp)

There's a pretty generous amount of garlic flakes mixed in between the pieces of dakgangjeong, so garlic lovers should be satisfied. The dakgangjeong itself has a well-coated sauce on the outside, but it's not overly soggy, and the meat inside was on the tender side. Ah, what a treat, haha. It paired really well with the other menu items too, and the garlic cut through the richness nicely, haha.

Eating the garlic together with the chicken is much more my style than just plain dakgangjeong! The nuts mixed in were nice too, giving a nutty crunch here and there, haha.

Whew, another gloriously food-filled day... isn't the whole point of traveling to eat anyway...

### Tips for visiting Sokcho Jungang Market in summer

Honestly, in the middle of summer, I think walking around the market would be tough, haha. You really should decide what you want ahead of time and order fast and get out fast, haha. We went at the end of August and even then, whew... it got so hot I couldn't tell if it was the chicken frying, the sundae frying, or us frying, haha.

## Is Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip worth a stop?

Sokcho has so many dakgangjeong shops it can be hard to decide where to go. This time, Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip had not just the basic dakgangjeong but different options like garlic and deodeok, so it was great for picking based on your taste. Since I like garlic, the garlic dakgangjeong was the one that stuck with me most.

If you want to browse the market and eat your way through a bunch of good food on your Sokcho trip, this is a great spot to pair with a Sokcho Jungang Market food route. Next time I go back to Sokcho Jungang Market, I'd like to try the deodeok dakgangjeong too, haha.
